I would be an exceptional candidate for the PEO STAR Scholarship as I have worked to utilize my high school experience to best prepare myself for what is yet to come. After high school, I plan to attend a four-year university to earn my bachelor’s degree in biology. From there, I hope to continue my education past my master’s degree and eventually earn my doctorate in virology. Ultimately, my goal is to become a researcher that develops and advances vaccines and other antiviral treatments. To accomplish these goals, I have worked diligently to try to ensure my future success. Within the last six months, I have pushed myself to become more involved with my community as a leader. I have also ventured into areas of academia that I believe …show more content…
So far, I have altered how meetings are conducted from last year so that the student administration has more control of communicating ideas to the members. Later in the year, I plan to incorporate additional volunteer opportunities and I want to have more group conversations with the members to hear their ideas and try to merge those ideas into positive changes that can be made. This leadership opportunity is starkly different from that of coordinating a 5k. Being the president of NHS has given me additional exposure to public speaking skills, decision making skills, proper ways to conduct meetings, and ways to present myself professionally. Despite their differences, these leadership opportunities have helped me advance myself in my journey to accomplish my goals. The skills I gained and refined from these opportunities will undoubtedly assist me when trying to procure grants, build connections, and become a research team leader. Additionally, I have pushed myself to take the most rigorous courses that my high school offers, not only in attempt to prepare myself for my future, but also for my love of learning. In particular, I decided to take an independent study this year. I wished to utilize this opportunity as my first step into what I wanted to pursue in the next chapter of my life. Thus, I planned to venture into both viruses and bacteria, as well as other pathogens such as
As a committed member of the SGA/Leadership class, I was taught to lead by example. I achieved missions to instill values of integrity, passion, and service as I cooperated that into my school and community. The class handed me the opportunity to host school-sponsored events while giving me a hands-on, authentic opportunity to learn and develop leadership skills for the future and put the skills learned into practice through the coordination of planning and implementing events. I was nominated to chair numerous committees. Through delegating tasks, working tight-knit with others, laying a foundation for rules, integrity, and values, I earned credibility. My leadership skills spoke "do as I do" and not "do what I say" which enabled others
Being president of the Negaunee Z-club this year has helped me develop as a leader. The club itself is a great place for all of the members to help grow their leadership qualities through the projects we do throughout the year. As the president I am required to be able to communicate with all the members, expand my social circles, and use my organizational skills.
I have participated in many clubs where group work and leadership is a necessity: Model United Nations, First Class Leaders, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. In these clubs, as well as in everyday life, I have been afforded the opportunity to share my values, listen to other’s opinions, and come together to find how we can share our values and ideas. However, my outreach and voice has been far more impactful in Mu Alpha Theta, a Math National Honor Society, and First Class Leaders where I gratefully serve on the Executive boards. I have organized many opportunities that have inspired members to commit philanthropic acts for tremendous charities, and in accordance there are numerous people that have received items that bring security
Most of the time, I act as the leader in many activities such as group projects and class events. Additionally, I currently tend to the job of secretary of the sophomore class of 2020 with diligence and in an organized manner. Moreover, being a leader possesses more to its aspect because it is not only a role, but a lifestyle. Living this certain way assisted me in constructing my character and formed me into loyal, empathetic, accountable, determined, encouraging, respectful, selfless, honorable, innovative, and passionate student. In fact, it’s not about leading, it’s about serving our fellow peers to rise by lifting each other
Firstly, in my Academic Career, I have held a multitude of leadership roles. My sophomore year , I was a class representative for Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America, commonly known as FCCLA. It was my duty to alert members and keep them up to date regarding meetings and activities. As a representative of FCCLA, I learned how to work as a unit leader and a team member. That same school year, I ran for the district office of secretary for FCCLA. The nomination and election process, gave me the opportunity to grow and nurture my leadership abilities. It was eminently challenging; but I learned the importance of discipline and hard work. I accomplished my goal and was nominated Secretary for FCCLA. This office allowed me to meet plenty
In the upcoming year, I would like to focus and work on my leadership skills, one of the four pillars of the National Honors Society. This year I was elected Vice President of marketing for the Jupiter High School DECA chapter. This role will help me with my leadership goal by teaching me the responsibilities of being part of/taking charge a larger group. it is now my responsibility to create invitations, direct social media, membership, and advertising the chapter and its activities. I am the head of a group of four directors who help me carry out and delegate these duties. in the next year, I plan to get all things done in a timely manner and treat all my responsibilities with equal value and necessity. Leadership is also about influencing
Over the past four years, FBLA has helped me grow in many ways. Of course, FBLA has provided me with limitless knowledge on leadership and business. This has helped me prepare for my future by giving me valuable leadership opportunities that will help me in college and beyond. Serving as a local chapter officer and attending several conferences has taught me the valuable skills that will help me make new friends, stand out as a leader, and communicate effectively with my peers. FBLA has also helped me make long-lasting friendships. I have grown extremely close with my fellow officers
With the aid of the FNP scholarship, not only would my short-term academic goals be met, but also the foundation upon my long-term ones would be assembled as well. I believe that I should be selected to receive this scholarship because I constantly endeavor for success; this is not only proven through my grade point average, but also through my personality and what makes me who I am as an individual. I take academics very seriously and I strive to complete everything accordingly and always- no matter how small a task, put 100% of my effort into it. Overall, my struggle is not dependent on if I can succeed in a class, rather if I can afford to take it. If selected, the scholarship award would not be misspend; as mentioned previously, I set high
By attending multiple state conventions, national conventions, leadership summits, and my experiences as an national officer I have been prepared to effectively work and serve those who need my assistance. Communication with fellow teenagers in my school, community, state, and nation is something I have learned while being in the Beta Club. I have spoke in front of thousands when I travel to the different state convention delivering keynotes on being “fearless” when striving to reach your goals. Since I gaining the courage to speak and lead the 490,000 members of the Beta Club I know I can continue to make an impact in the future. In my future, I plan on continuing to participate in organizations that value the qualities of leadership and service.
I believe one of the most important aspects of an individual’s college experience is their involvement and leadership opportunities they might have. Being the Chair of the Teddi Dance for Love: a 24-hour dance marathon, and my active participation on campus, has given me the skills and leadership qualities to succeed.
Life is a journey filled with opportunities and challenges. Being a social worker allows me to alleviate client’s depression and help them to develop positive values towards life. I would like to major in Social Work because social workers have assisted me to relieve stress and I want to repay his kindness. In my childhood, I would describe myself as “sadness” in the film Inside Out as I always think negatively and find my life meaningless. Fortunately, I can seek help from social worker and learn to appreciate what I have. I will try to face the problem optimistically as it provides me a chance to grow maturely. More importantly, I can learn to appreciate the strength of others, comprehend what ‘Empathy’ is and offer assistance to client.
With the aim to learn more about professional practice, during my time at Edinburgh Napier University I participated in and completed the Common Purpose Frontrunner Leadership Course. I feel I developed my presentation and team working skills and I feel my confidence in meeting and working with new people also improved.
In high school, I was able to step into the role as a leader and prove myself capable of initiating change. My school's Art Club had struggled to exist, led by seniors who graduated without establishing a proper group of leadership that would keep the Club alive. My sophomore year introduced me to the great group that made up the club and I soon organized a leadership group. Though it was still majorly seniors, the club had established a stable schedule of meetings. My junior year, I became president of Art Club and further strengthened the foundation upon which the club prospered with consistent meetings and involvement in community events. I also recruited three enthusiastic girls who are in training to lead the club once I graduate. Keeping an entire club afloat my first year as president was one of the most challenging tasks I persevered through. By sticking to my goals, I have ensured a future for the Art
Currently, I am the Leadership Living Learning Programmer at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. I facilitate biweekly leadership meetings with 23 participants. For the meetings, I coordinate speakers to come in and talk about topics including diversity, LinkedIn, and topics that would enhance the members’ leadership skills. Organizing meetings is a skill that I developed as the Leadership Programmer, and I would use the event planning skills that I have learned to help Ariens to the best of my abilities.
In an ordinary day we come across many events that are open opportunities to try something that might make us an outsider or not fit in. What most individuals do not do is take advantage of these opportunities and attend these events. “As human beings we find it more comfortable to go to places and do things with people we know and topics we are familiar with”. (DeLanery 4). This past week, I decided it would be interesting to take a step outside of this comfort zone. On Thursday, November 5th, I attended an event called LeadersLive which is coordinated by CLA (Career Leadership Academy) here at University of Iowa. Most of my life people think I am a pretty outgoing person who is easy to talk to but many do not know how hard it is for me to step up and be a leader. This event was based around how to be a leader and changing students into young professionals.
