In recent years technology has been labeled as the main authority amongst society and is said to be responsible for the numerous shifts in daily life, specifically those related to the evolution of the human mind that go unnoticed. However, this development has not taken on a positive connotation after such extensive advancements in the digital world. In articles such as Nicholas Carr’s “Is Google Making Us Stupid” and Gary Small and Vorgan Gigi’s “Meet Your iBrain,” people have been drawing attention to the way technology “is rapidly and profoundly altering our brains” (Small and Gigi 1). Carr even mentions that society has been involved in a struggle of discovering who is doing the thinking: them or their technology. Using articles such as these and peer interviews this paper will dissertate the influence technology has had on the human mind and society’s actions.

Computers are a magnificent feat of technology. They have grown from simple calculators to machines with many functions and abilities. Computers have become so common that almost every home has at least one computer, and schools find them a good source for information and education for their students (Hafner, Katie, unknown). Computers have created new careers and eliminated others and have left a huge impact on our society. The invention of the computer has greatly affected the arts, the business world, and society and history in many different areas, but to understand how great these changes are, it is necessary to take a look at the origins of the computer.

Technology can be convenient in many cases, but when it comes to learning environments, technology can serve as a distraction rather than a benefit. The purpose of this study is to determine if there is a correlation between technology and the academic performance in students when technology is permitted in classroom settings. The hypothesis predicts that academic performance in classrooms is increased when students are not allowed to use technology during class. 100 students from two classes will participate in a semester long study using regular class assignments to determine if technology has an impact on over all grades and academic performance. There will be a total of 200 students that will be analyzed at the end of the semester.

I’ve chosen to talk about technology devices being needed for our everyday use and how they affect us. There’s a lot of ways it impacts us, so I probably won’t go over all of them, just some of the things I can think of at the moment. I also think it’s interesting how it can and does affect us both positively and negatively.

With today’s day and age we are in the heart of developing technological inventions. With all of the buzz, it is hard to not get caught up in the excitement because it is trendy and fun. There needs to be cautious with how it is used. Something as simple as picking up a cell phone and checking the newest message can become so automatic the brain doesn’t even need to process it. Which leads us to a dangerous place, like if that person were at the wheel of a weapon. Some people say texting and driving isn’t even that big of a deal. Like maybe someone can text without even looking. The facts are still there. Texting and driving can kill and is becoming “more trendy” every day the people let it.

Compared to the technology of our parent's or grandparent’s generations, the advances we have had in technology make us expect everything to go according to plan. Today’s society is a here and now society. We expect to have everything at the tip of our fingers, whenever we want it. We expect our Amazon package to be here in two days, and if it isn’t sitting on our porch we get our typing fingers ready to send a strong email to the seller. This mentality is challenging for both leaders and followers because it has created a society that does not value the time it takes to accomplish a goal. Even when that goal is accomplished, we hold ourselves and our equipment to a new standard. Those successes motivate us to improve our equipment so that we can improve ourselves, as opposed to focusing inward and bettering ourselves.

Starting off, I would say that technology has in a way changed many of my groups. Obviously technology will change the groups in which you are closer with. That being the primary group involved in my life at a personal level. You could definitely say that it has changed modern day society as we know it. The difference has been astronomical in the past 10-20 years clearly in many ways. If we get a little bit more in depth you can see how it has affected myself personally but also my peers and not to mention the generations of older and younger.
