Life during the Great Depression was plagued with the struggle of finding work to survive and not even having a place to live. In the novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie are traveling to a new job after being chased out of Weed since Lennie was accused of raping a girl. George and Lennie have to camp out in the wild because they end up getting out of the busway too far from the Farm. George had told Lennie to hide in the brush showing he has a history of getting in trouble with the police and or other people. George and Lennie finally make it to the farm where after they end up having a run-in with the bosses son resulting in them ending up on his bad side. Lennie ends up ruining the peaceful time they have on the farm by killing Curley's wife and Lennie having to run away and George having to chase him to put an end to this. The connection of friendship between George and Lennie, Candy and his dog, and George and Slim deepens existing bonds and entails the story with a common connection. …show more content…

George and Lennie are camping out in the wild since they can't make it to the farm with the remaining time in the day. Lennie decided he wants to hear the dream that the two of them are trying to achieve. “With us, it ain't like that, we got a future, we got somebody that gives a damn about us because I got you to look after me and you got me to look after you” (pg 15). This quote is significant because it strengthens the existing relationship that is shown in the novella. George and Lennie act as though they are brothers so we can see how close they are and we also know George was very hurt when he lost Lennie showing he cares about him.
