The lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the ring by J.R.R Tolkien is a fiction novel that narrates the quest that Frodo along with some of his friends have to make in order to destroy a ring containing a lot of power of the evil Sauron. Along the way they come across new additions to the group and some evil forces trying to return the ring to its creator. The journey makes the members of the fellowship change, but especially the main character and new owner of the ring Frodo.
In Middle Earth there are many lands or towns as I like to look at it. They are all connected by a Forest. Frodo is one of the cousins of Bilbo Baggins a well respected and wealthy man in the Shire. Bilbo also owns a really powerful ring. After his birthday, he disappears and leaves Frodo the difficult task of destroying the ring since evil is approaching towards them. Merry and Pippin are going to help Frodo destroy the ring along with loyal server Sam. Before the embark off to the forest and destroy the ring - which can only be destroyed in a specific volcano-. One of the major themes of the novel Fear comes across when pippin says that their job is easier than fatty’s who is staying to keep Frodo's new house safe from black rider who used

Gandalf was one telling him the story of Gollum a once young boy named Semagal who killed his friend Deagol in order to keep the ring making him become a horrible and despicable creature. To this story, Frodo responds by saying that he should be dead, but Gandalf responds “Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be ager to deal out death in judgement, for even the very wise cannot see all ends”(Tolkien,83). Later Frodo gets to experience what the power of the ring can do to you when you are in a problem and urges to use it. At the end his sense of loyalty and love for his friends makes him help them and not use the
It would possess him" (70). After having said this, he tells Frodo how this ring of doom originated. Clearly, Gandalf is wise enough to know that behind all that power lies weakness and evil. Even if one might first use the ring for something good and meaningful to others, it will eventually possess that person and make that person the slave to the ring. Galadriel even knows this quite well. Frodo offers her the ring, since he believes she deserves it the most and also knows how to control it. When Frodo tells her this, Galadriel seems to be strongly tempted to take the power offered by Frodo. She tells him, "For many long years I had pondered what I might do, should the Great Ring come into my hands, and behold!" (431). The exclamation point reveals to us how Galadriel might be really taken in by the thought of power at this moment and how raptured she is in this thought. But, she too is wise as Gandalf is. In the end, she even tells Frodo, "We will not speak more of it" (431). She knows that even speaking about such power can bring about destruction. Interestingly though, Galadriel seems to be almost crazy at this moment, presenting herself to Frodo while relating to him what "good" she could bring to her elves. The ring is so alluring. Too much of a good thing cannot last long. She is
Throughout the book “Fellowship of the ring”, Frodo Baggins, the central character, embarks on a journey not only literally, but mentally. Frodo discovers traits about himself that he never knew he had, or discovers that he could do what he thought he could never do. Frodo’s journey in this book is to take the “Ring of Power” to Rivendell, the elvish kingdom, and protect it from Sauromon, and the knights of Sauron. He brings along his bodyguard, Samwise Gamgee, and they meet Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took along the way. Frodo encounters Aragorn as well, who serves as a very useful person to his mental development, as Aragorn teaches him many things. Frodo is able to deliver
In the movie The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring, written by J.R Tolkien and directed by Peter Jackson, a group of diverse individuals must learn to trust each other dispite historical and cultural difference. Frodo has the burden of trusting people with his life. Throughout the movie Frodo has to put his life
Frodo Baggins also takes on a moral code as he accepts his role as the Ring Bearer. Hobbits by nature are fun loving and non-competitive, but Frodo says to Elrond, “I will take the ring. . .though I do not know the way.'; (Tolkien, p.324) When sitting in the chair of the Guardian Kings of Gordor at the top of Amon Hen in the Seat of Seeing, Frodo sees the world covered by Orcs, Lorien in smoke and Borenings’s land on fire and finally sees and feels the Eye of Sauron. He cries out, “I will do now
However, unlike Frodo, he can withstand the rings calling as shown in his fight to the Two Towers to rescue his friend. Tolkien shows the reader how inner ambitions can drive the psyche into one of two ways, good or
By putting his life in danger Bilbo shows a true example of heroism. Though the dwarves were still skeptical of his abilities, they were starting to take into consideration of what Gandalf had said about this little hobbit. Continuing their adventure the group is attacked by goblins where they are eventually saved by Gandalf. Throughout the turmoil of the attacking goblins Bilbo gets lost in the caves and finds himself alone in the darkness. It is in this event when Bilbo finds Gollum’s ring. Gollum was a sickly looking creature that had been dwelling in the caves for many years. Bilbo used his wits to outsmart the creature by playing a riddle game with him and eventually made it to safety. Having Bilbo win the riddle game shows that his smart and witty mind aids him in becoming the hero. Bilbo wasn’t some tough strong stereotypical super hero, he used his smarts to outwit his foes and to triumph over evil. Though Bilbo at the time did not know the power of the ring that he had retrieved from Gollum’s lair (the power of invisibility), it was his heroic fate that he found it as it assist him in becoming the hero of the story. Fate has it that Bilbo will become a hero, but Bilbo also has the courage on top of his fate to get the dwarves out of life threatening situations.
The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a story of adventure and danger, and it is a prime example of a romantic plot and fantasy genre. What makes this story such a great example of a romantic plot? One, the unlikely hero, Mr. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit that is dragged on an adventure he doesn’t wish to take. Second, there is a great quest with a reward at its end. Third the great teacher figure, Gandalf is a wizard that helps Bilbo to become the great hero he is destined to be. And lastly the dragon figure, in this story the dragon figure, happened to be a dragon but there are also many miniature dragon figures through out the tale.
"Three Rings for the Eleven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his Dark throne, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One ring to find them, One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie(Tolkien)." Master of storytelling J.R.R. Tolkien continues the lives of the fictitious creatures that he introduced in The Hobbit, in his modern classic The Fellowship of the Ring. He artfully illustrates the truths of the evil that plague the hearts of man. He tells a story of greed, destruction and how mortal men are enslaved by
The book I am reporting on is The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien. The setting of the story begins in a place called Middle Earth. The story begins in Began where Mr. Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit lives. Bilbo, thirteen dwarves and a wizard travel to Rivendell, Misty Mountains and finally Mirkwood. The book was set before the Lord of the Rings but it is unclear exactly when. The story is a fantasy so time is not important.
He tells him that the mysterious golden Ring that he and Bilbo have are one of the rings of an evil lord called Sauron, which carries a portion of his power. The Ring will corrupt anyone who wears it. Gandalf tells Frodo that Sauron’s dark forces will be off to look for it and so he has to get out of the shire as soon as he can. Gandalf leaves, and Frodo is stuck waiting to hear from him.
In the hobbit Tolkien uses the ring which was an honor for winning a game, which was won by Bilbo Baggins also I am writing about if Gandalf should be in the book. The author uses Dialogue and Inner thinking for this section of the book. Tolkien also uses symbolism in the book because he is talking about the ring and what the use of it is for. Tolkien relies on humor to portray the adventure in the hobbit. Three topics I will be using for my essay are Dialogue, Inner Thinking, Flashback, and Flashforward.
A cultural product that inspires me is the film trilogy The Lord of the Rings, which was directed by Peter Jackson. This movie gave me inspiration because of how beautiful and well put together the film was. It made me want to be involved with the process of how great films are made. According to Wikipedia, “Jackson knew he wanted to bring the movie to the big screen, and was curious to why nobody decided to do so.” He wanted to take advantage of the new technology, and create a fantasy that was serious and felt real (Wikipedia, 2014). Peter Jackson demonstrates the art and business of the film in many ways, which is culturally inspiring.
