Even though he didn't talk to Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic, and even though he had the chance to, he still got to audition for Nirvana's new drummer, through the lead singer of the band that was friends with Nirvana. Also when he auditioned for them, both Krist Novoselic and Kurt Cobain knew that he would be perfect for their band as a drummer. According to the book "Come as You Are: The Story of Nirvana" by Michael Azerrad, Krist Novoselic said "He was a hard hitter... So bright, so hot, so vital." Also, Dave Grohl actually lived with Kurt Cobain when he first started in the band. Grohl had a successful and decently timed run with Nirvana, because huge labels were interested in Nirvana, offering contracts with huge advances. Although they only had seven years together as a band, Nirvana is thought of as one of the most influential bands of all time. Combined, their estimated total record sales are over 75 million worldwide, with Nevermind and In Utereo reaching Diamond status. Former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl revealed he hasn't seen the Kurt Cobain documentary entitled Cobain: Montage of Heck. Grohl told the Washington Post that seeing Cobain as a child may make him sad. "All the footage of him as a child, I think that might make me sad. Then the dark stuff at the end I think would bum me out, the Foo Fighters frontman stated. Grohl is not featured in the documentary, due to his hectic schedule during the time the film's interviews were taking place. "We first approached Dave about an interview in April 2014. Dave did sit for an in three weeks after I completed the film. He was great, but unfortunately it was too late for inclusion," Montage of Heck director Brett Morgen revealed.
Their debut album would then follow the next year called Bleach. Although this album didn’t sell too well at first, it was a critically acclaimed record that exposed what the band had to offer. After Bleach, Nirvana started recording their second album and while doing so discovered the drummer Dave Grohl who played with the duo for the majority of the years together. In 1990, the band traded their independent label Sub Pop with major label David Geffen Company Records. Nirvana had many drummers, but Grohl was the one who finished the band with them and joined just in time for Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album. Kurt Cobain died in 1994 of a drug overdose and the band separated due to his death. The government has recently reopened his case for a more thorough investigation.

Nirvanas album “Nevermind” was a drastic change from the music getting steady airplay in the early to mid 90’s. According to Billboard.com Michael Jackson arguably the most iconic artist of the '80s was knocked off the top spot by Nirvana. This was the moment when alt-rock officially took over the mainstream. At the time Nevermind was released I was 11 years old, and I will never forget the first time I was exposed to Nirvana. I was at my buddy’s house and he showed me this new CD that he got. He tossed me the case as he put it in the player, and there it was the iconic baby in the pool swimming for a dollar. My first impression was, what the hell is this? Then the music played. This was different I thought to myself. Not a bad different, but
“I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.” Kurt Cobain was legendary in music and he meant what he said. He never changed himself and that was seen throughout his life. His resistance to change made him the influential person he was and created the spokesman for so many young people that resented the culture of the day. Kurt was a fiery, impulsive, and rebellious person in his childhood, in his musical success, and in his explosive, memorable end.

His raw agonizing voice, incomprehensible singing, and his style of clothes set Cobain and Nirvana away from everyone else and into greatness (imdb.com). Cobain’s new way of expression became very popular with an enormous amount of people and caught the attention of more people, fans, and the media. As a result this greatness caused more problems, pain and stress for the already depressed and hurting man that Cobain was..
Cobain decided that he would leave the house. He packed up his stuff and occasionally stayed with his friends or on the streets. He eventually found an apartment that he rented, and while occupying the building he went to many rock concerts. Around this time, he met Krist Novoselic who he eventually befriended and started a band with. Together, they created “Nirvana”. The first few years of the band were hard as they had trouble gathering crowds to watch their shows. They released one album in 1989 entitled “Bleach” with drummer Chad
