Choosing a carrier has been a difficult task. The endless options use to overwhelm me. I feared choosing a carrier in which I was not going to be happy with. This kept me paralyze for many years, unsure and unwilling, to make a decision. Today, I’m working on not letting that fear consume my essence and take the best of me. Something I know for sure, I love working with my hands, it helps me stay calm and relax. I have always been interested in helping other and in working in the health field. Additionally, working on this assignment was very rewarding. I interviewed Karina Perez, a Registered Dental Hygienist. Becoming a Dental Hygienist is my aim, it has become my long-term goal. Therefore, being able to interview someone in the field not only brought me confidence to continue my path, I also met a Hygienist that graduated from the same college I’m interested in applying. My thoughts about what this job entailed were pretty accurate. However, I believed that working with kids was more enjoyable than working with adults. Instead, Ms. Perez commented that she liked more general practice, because she is able to use more of her skills on adults. Also, because must kids hate the dentist so there’s a lot more crying and screaming when working at a pediatric office. Henceforth, the interview did race awareness …show more content…
Do I get intimidated? Well yes, I do. English is my second languish and I tend to think people might not be able to understand me. But in the interview, I ask Ms. Perez if she thought this would be a problem and on the contrary, she said that being bilingual is an advantage. Thus, in this case my biggest obstacle would be overcoming negative thoughts. I also learned that every three years hygienist are required to take aditional courses to stay updated with the current changes and trends in the
Surveys indicate that 50% of people say that someone’s smile is the first thing they notice. I personally have always been insecure about my teeth because of the gap in the middle. So, I spent alot of my time worrying what other people thought about me, growing up you realize that you're not the only one who cares so much what others think. A dental hygienist is the person who specializes in scaling and polishing teeth and giving advice on cleaning teeth. Your teeth are a very important part of your body and something you need to keep up on. As kids grow older from being teens to young adults they forget about things like that, going to get your teeth cleaned every 6 months. I want to help people make themselves feel good just like many of
Dermatologists are specialized physicians that treat diseases of the skin, hair, and nails. They can perform a variety of procedures such as biopsies, acne scar removal (dermabrasion), hair restoration surgery, collagen injections, chemical peels and fat transfers. They can work in hospitals, clinics and private practices and usually require referrals from your primary care physician for public access. A Dental Hygienist may refer directly to Dermatologists when there is a significant finding on the extra-oral exam, especially in cases of cancerous or pre-cancerous abnormalities in the skin; however, it is more common for the Dental Hygienist to refer to the primary care physician, who will then refer to the dermatologist. Dermatologists are
Hook: Odontophobia is the fear of the dentist, shockingly, many have a fear of this, and even teeth themselves. The thought of some stranger taking drills and shiny metal tools to your mouth is enough to understand the fear itself. Odontophobia is the reason I didn’t choose the occupation of a dentist; I chose the work of a dental hygienist. A dental hygienist will: remove stains, and plaque from teeth, apply fluorides to help protect teeth, take and develop dental x-rays, assess the patients’ oral health and report findings to dentists, document patient care and treatment plans, and educate patients about oral hygiene techniques.
There are many different career paths and a variety of jobs for people to choose. Different people are suited for different jobs. After high school I want to further my education to become a dental hygienist. Dental hygienists clean teeth, examine patients for signs of oral diseases such as gingivitis, and provide dental care. They also educate patients on ways to improve and maintain good oral health. I believe I would be a perfect for this job. I enjoy helping others and I care very much about my health. I get to do a job (hopefully in the future) where I can learn about the human mouth, how to treat the patients, and also educate patients on proper oral care and technique’s.
What’s a more beneficial job; Dental Hygiene or Radiation Therapy? If you’ve ever struggled to decided what career to pursue, you're not alone. Most people decide on a job field based on their hobbies and dreams. In high school students have to make a hard, life changing decision on what they want to do for the rest of their life. One job deals with the mouth and helping clean teeth, while the other has to deal with helping care cancer by administering radiation treatment. There are many pro’s and con’s of both jobs.
I am currently studying at CFCC to get into the Dental Assisting program. Upon graduating, I would like to acquire a job at an orthodontists office. The employment for this occupation is actually expected to grow much faster than average; between 2008 and 2018, employment is expected to grow 36 percent. The job demand in the Cape Fear area seems to be fairly higher than other areas in North Carolina, and higher than some other states as well.
Massachusetts has made tremendous progress in expanding health insurance coverage and increasing availability of health care to its residents. The same cannot be said about expanding access to dental care. From 2008-2011, MassHealth, the Massachusetts Medicaid program paid $11.6 million for emergency room dental care for adults (Expanding Dental Access in Massachusetts, 2015). Despite this expenditure, the patient still requires a visit to the dentist since ERs are not equipped to treat dental problems and typically prescribe antibiotics and painkillers for severe cases (Expanding Dental Access in Massachusetts, 2015). Difficulties to dental care access are met by vulnerable communities including, residences of low-income communities, communities of color, seniors in long-term care, people with
A girl, long black hair falling like curtains around her face, sat in her college classes with no friends, nearly invisible, this was me on my first day of college in the United States. Growing up as a little village girl, ironing my school dresses before sunrise each morning, combing my hair, packing my lunch, completing my homework with precision after school each day, and then helping my grandmother in the evenings, made up my childhood routine. I spent my childhood being raised by and living with my grandparents in a village in India. These were some of the best days of my life. Our relationship provided me with a unique gift to learn about their life experiences and wisdom. I loved being my grandfather’s grocery shopping companion and my grandmother always told the best bedtime stories that were oral traditions passed down for generations.
I am applying for the position of Dental Hygienist at your clinic. I’ve found this job opportunity through Indeed.com.
The career that I am currently interested in researching about is Dentistry, specifically the career path to become a general dentist. I am pursuing a bachelor of science in Kinesiology, with a minor in Biological Sciences. This combination of courses allows me to take the prerequisites required to apply to dental school. Before beginning the application process, I am required to take the Dental Admission Test, a timed multiple-choice exam conducted by the American Dental Association. I am currently in my junior year and will take the DAT in August of 2017. Performing well on the DAT is an important factor in the dental school application process and I plan to explore the most effective, cost efficient way to study for the test. I also plan to explore the gap year I will take before beginning dental school, along with the financial aspects of dental school and owning a general practice.
All my life I have questioned myself, “What is my real interest in life that I enjoy doing the most?” Therefore, I decided to review my life to find things which I adore the most. Lastly I realized that my interest is to help people, helping others brings me a great spiritual satisfaction for that reason I want to become a dental hygienist.
My dream job is to be a dental hygienist and has been the same since I was a little girl. I have an interest in how health can affect one’s body. I would like to educate others how important it is to keep your body, including teeth, healthy and clean. To see people who have not cleaned their teeth in years compared to people who are able to see the dentist every six months, is a drastic difference. Some people may think it does not matter, but lack of dental care actually takes a toll on your health. I want to peruse this career to help other’s think. I will enjoy helping other people by showing them the importance of keeping their teeth cleaned. Contrary to popular belief, a tooth brush does not do all the work, that is also why it is so important to have a dentist to make sure you are getting the cleaning you need to stay healthy. Another reason why I want to pursue this career is I work best in an oriented atmosphere. Making sure people are comfortable with where they are and make sure the patients are taken care of. Creates a very friendly environment. That is why my passion is a dental hygienist.
Pediatric Dentistry is a fantastic job for me because I adore children, the median annual wage is excellent, and dental hygiene is very preeminent to me. I cannot envision a better career path for myself. I have always been a person who can interact well with children. In addition, I also enjoy the idea of being able to help children feel great about their teeth and smile. Being a dentist is much more to me than just cleaning a child's teeth. It is also about boosting the child's self-confidence by encouraging them to brush their teeth and take care of their smile
