Writing has many tools and devices that can be used to influence the purpose and meaning of the a piece of work. In the two pieces of work, "Private License Plate Scanners Amassing Vast Databases Open to Highest Bidders-which is written in a way that it is anti-license plate tracking- and "Who Has the Right to Track You?'-which is written to be for license plate tracking- many different tools and devices are used by the authors. These pieces of work describe the benefits and drawbacks of collecting data and tracking fellow citizens, but use different forms of pathos, ethos, and logos to portray what they are trying to say. Also, both articles state how many are opposed to this tracking, arguing that it is against the First Amendment, …show more content…
In addition, in this source, the author has a strong angry tone that has a negative correlation. In similarity, the author also uses words that give the feeling of negativity, making it all seem opposed to this liscense plate tracking. All of this comes together to show that the authors purpose is to make readers oppose liscence plate tracking. First of all, the article, "Who Has the Right to Track You?", also uses many writing devices. The author of this article uses pathos, ethos, and logos, tone, and word chice to explain why to be against license plate tracking. To begin, the author of this piece of writing uses pathos to encourage oppostion. Pathos is used when stating, "This is a complicated area where we are going to need to carefully balance First Amendment rights of corporations versus individuals privacy rights". This appeals to the readers because it makes them feel a sense of security because they know that their privacy is being considered to make sure everything is legal and okay. Logos is also used when the author speaks of how over 50 million vehicles are recorded, but also how this of which goes to 550 affiliates to look it over. These numbers and use of logic give the reader a set amount and give an appeal. Alas, another mechanism that the author uses is ethos; this is used when the author tells about the different attorneys and important people of the government contribute to this situation
license plate images," Crump says. "Especially with technology becoming more widespread and databases going back in time, there may be justification for regulation." this is pathos because they are talking to a audience. they are arguing to crump of what they think is true. everyone has their own opinion that they want to make it a true
Stanley's article begins with a factual approach more in line with a journalistic tone. The article begins by referring to a previous blog post concerning efforts by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to place ALPR devices on interstate highways. This lead-in introduces the fact that data collected by these devices will be stored for two years, thus the data mining threat. The official purpose of ALPR data storage is to collect intelligence concerning the movements of suspects and for statistical analysis. Stanley suggests, appropriately so, that there is nothing to prevent the use of collected information to be used for other purposes. This seems particularly troubling, because these ALPR systems collect travel information on everyone using the highway, including non-suspects.
Germany, as a unified nation, doesn’t exist in 1860. There are 39 independent German states, one of the which is Mecklenburg. Mecklenburg is known for being the most backward of the 39 states. It has the highest percentage of emigrants of any of the German states as their landless peasants have little reason to hope for a better future. After living in such a poor state with limited freedom and few opportunities, many, such as Johann and Anna Friederike, nee Miko, Voss see emigration as a new chance at life. (Friederike goes by the nickname of “Rike.”)
The year is 1953 and the war between the U.S and Canada is still ongoing. An airplane was flying over the Pacific Ocean on a late afternoon with ten passengers, eight were boys and the other two being the men who were flying the plane. Ahead of them was a medium-sized island thriving with trees and crabs, but there were also pigs on the island. The boys on the plane were aspiring to go to Australia to escape the war. While they were about a mile away from the island, something shot at the plane, causing both of the engines to rupture into flames. After twenty minutes, the plane had crashed into the island, creating a long scar on the left side of the island. The only surviving people were the eight boys who were petrified by the incident.
Once upon a time, there was a wealthy young woman. She loved to shop and enjoyed using her dad's money on the most lavish, opulent brands. Her name was Dora, named after the cartoon in which one can learn Spanish. As a child, she loved animals and the company they provided. Dora walked for hours all over the city of New York to find the animal that she needed to be complete... She went home everyday sad unable to find the pet of her dreams. Sometime later, she saw a store named, “Laden's Pet Palace.” The second she walked in the scent of fresh a bleach-filled her nostrils. The scent froze her at the door.
V2 grimaced as he folded his arms across his chest. A local carnival had arrived in town and was stationed in the open lot across from Toshizou's manor. For the most part, V2 hated crowds of people, they drove him mad, not to mention the odor their bodies gave off when V2 was close enough to smell the blood that ran through their very veins.
The city of Chelsea is seeing massive changes in its community, yet not everyone is benefiting from these changes. This is not an unusual phenomena to happen in this society. More specifically, the displacement of Chelsea’s residents have been reaching extraordinary heights. The building of new condos and hotels in the community have been both a beautiful, yet destructive occurrence. New buildings lavished with the newest architectural aspects, loom over homes ready to collapse or infested with pests. In order to be able to build these edifices, the residents need to be pushed out of the way and moved to wherever they can go. Not many companies care about whether these individuals are capable of making such major changes and if their
I woke hearing my mom’s annoying alarm. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I see my mom get out of bed and walk into the bathroom. I see my softball uniform on the hotels counter. As I see my mom get out of the bathroom I stand up and grab my uniform. I walk in the bathroom and put on my blue jersey and belt, and my orange pants and socks . I put my brown chestnut hair in a high pony tail and walk out.
Discuss the role of reverse culture shock in the repatriation process. What can companies do to avoid this problem? What kinds of skills do managers learn from a foreign assignment, and how can the company benefit from them?
I was a bundle of nerves that morning in science class we were going to present are science project. I thought I did good on my science project, but what if I mispronounced something. There is a list of possibilities that could go wrong and I am going up next. Oh no it’s my turn to go up and present. Ding ding ding. The bell? The bell! I don’t have to present today. I better get my backpack and head to the buses. I got on the bus and realized that I would present first tomorrow. Ugh. Just then I my bus driver slammed on the brakes and I hit my head on the back of my seat. Ouch, that hurt. I look up to see what happened and see it was a deer that jumped right in front of the bus. My bus driver didn’t hit the deer, but she was close to
It started on a regular summer day. I was having a conversation with my Grandparents and the question came up, “If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?” I told them I wanted to go to Israel. What I didn't know is that they were already thinking about talking to my mom about the possibility of going to there. Well, before I knew it my parents had agreed to let me go to Israel with my grandparents and a man named Dr. Bookman. After that my mom and I spent the rest of the summer learning about the places I would go. We put together a journal identifying some of the places with pictures and verses. I was nervous about being in a plane for a long time and flying over the ocean, but after the first flight I was good to go.
