What is an Eruv? An Eruv is a ritual enclosure (usually around a small town and now big cities) that is constructed by setting up two poles and then a string on top of the two poles. This was created because during the Sabbath Jewish religion law prohibits carrying, toting and pushing any object outside of one’s home. So activities like pushing a stroller, totting a diaper bag and even carrying food to a friend’s house would be forbidden during the Sabbath (Friday to Saturday).
