Scholarship, an award to assist students to pursue their educational goals. This scholarship, with its background of Eric Ming’s involvement towards basketball, really pulled me in because basketball was the sport that pushed me towards being active and having an interest in sports. The chance for winning this scholarship would help me pursue my education goal of attending at Simon Fraser University in the Health Sciences faculty or the Arts faculty and eventually becoming a pediatric dentist.
Firstly, the Eric Ming scholarship motivates me to achieve the goals I’ve set myself, the goal of becoming a pediatric dentist. Coming from an Asian background, my parents always pushed me towards the medical area for a career, especially a doctor. High school was a closer step to becoming an adult, where I was on my own and making my own decisions. This led my parents to put more pressure and

However, all I wanted to do was to make my parents proud of me, everything I’ve done in secondary school. So, with combining my passion for science and helping others and being fulfill the dream my parents set for me, it resulted me to pursuing a career as a pediatric dentist. In addition, the scholarship would assist my family financially. With my parents’ full time jobs earning about $18 each, it caused my parents tension because they both had to provide for a family of four. For instance, my brother whose in his mid-twenties always had to lend my parents a hand financially, when it came to the bills and mortgages. Personally, I couldn’t do the same action as my brother because I was too young to understand about the concepts of money and finances. However,
My high school experience was overall a mixture of being scared and growing to become who I am today. When I was in my first years of high school, it was just high school nothing more. I had seen teachers as teachers and friends as friends. I just
With western expansion, the frontier held incredible challenges, not the least of which was the difficult travel. These frontier women traveled in extreme temperatures; the heat of the plains and freezing cold in the mountain passes, and withstood volatile storms. Not only were women faced with the hardships of moving westward, but they were still expected to be domestic and maternal, often in charge of cooking, household tasks, and childcare, frequently faced with the rigors of pregnancy too. The ability of these women to survive these physical demands; this lead to a new respect for frontier women by the men in their community. Women were still regarded as domestic and by no means equal despite this new respect. Theodore in 1884 when he left
This scholarship would greatly aid in my ambition to become a Dental Hygienist. With it, I will be able to afford to attend the University of Arkansas in Fort Smith and to provide myself with the lifestyle that I want. It means that I will make my parents proud that their child has achieved her life goal.
My parents have given me an incredible life. Even when times are tough financially, they always take care of my needs, and even my wants. I have had an incredible childhood with just enough family dysfunction to teach me lessons necessary to mature. I believe that I should be awarded the Courage to Grow Scholarship because although living with my parents in my comfortable home for the rest of my life sounds comfortable, I want to branch out in order to gain new lessons and experiences from the world.
I think what I enjoyed the most is, since we’re kind of all stucked together, we have to work together a lot, whether that’s with teachers or students, if we have differences with each other, we have to figure a way to work things out, and it’s always nice to problem solve and get through those hard times. I feel like I’ve learned a lot about myself and really grown. I think high school has provided me with a lot of room to become who I am supposed to be.
High school isnt for me As I got older I always loved hearing about what adults had to say about high school. Most people infatuated their love for high school and how they would go back in a instant. Others on the other hand would rather jump off a cliff and that's exactly who I came out to be.
They moved to a different country with the sole purpose of allowing my brother and I to have the lives that they never could. Both my mother and father have had to shoulder enormous amounts of responsibility in the past, and now they have the addition of owning a business, having children, and my physically disabled grandmother to worry about. With the addition of your scholarship, I’ll be able to lighten a burden on not only my life but also my parents’. I’ll be able to make a contribution to their existence as they have done so many times for my
However, my joy is marred by the fact that I have to cope with significant financial problems. During all these years I was forced to take low-wage jobs and, as a result, I don’t have any savings. I live on my own. My amazing parents have supported me morally and financially throughout my life, but they are not young already and close to retirement age. As a 30-year-old woman, I realize that very soon it will be my turn to take care of them. I live alone and have to pay all learning and living costs and to support myself. My student loan will not cover my accommodation costs. These are the realities of my life. That is why receiving this scholarship means a lot to me. It will give me the opportunity to complete my education and subsequently will allow me to succeed in life. Therefore, any financial help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration.
High school is an experiment to prepare young people for the adult world. Having to come over to High School from Midlle school was a huge transformation. Having to do a great mass of home work each night, is hard. But the only hard thing is high school is knowing that you cant graduate. Being in my shoes Freshman year of High School is very hard, but I knew what to do to be successful and achieve great things.
They consistently ensure that I have the necessities I need to survive and more, along with being financially responsible for the every day bills they receive. It is my belief that college should not be another burden and responsibility placed upon them. My parents also cannot fully pay for the tuition of my dream school. Therefore, winning this scholarship will not only lighten the burden and stress of making sure the financial aspect of my education is met but it will also allow me to gain knowledge from an accredited university, one that I have always aspired to
I plan to pursue a career in the dental field. I wasn't set on this area when I was a child, I came to it later when I was going through different professions in the medical field. I thought I would enjoy doing it, and after shadowing at a dental office, I liked the work atmosphere. Also, there will always be a need for people in the medical field, I believe I need this scholarship because I am going to be paying for all of my college expenses, apart from what I will receive in grants and scholarships. My parents can't help me with much financially, especially because I have an older brother already in college who is finishing his second year. Also, considering the length of the program I want to pursue, I will need all of the help I can
High School is said to be the easiest time of a young adult’s life. Our teachers help us and remind us to turn in our work. We don’t even have to study much for our test. We don’t have to pay taxes either. But in college, you have to pay for everything, including taxes and room and board. In high school we just kind of coast through and take what our parents do for us for granted. I will discuss my first prom in sophomore year and building prom as a junior.
High school is overrated, growing up is undervalued, and time is too short to take it for granted. While I could write all about how high school reformed me and how moments spent with friends will be my most cherished memories, I will not because I would be lying. If every teenage student was candid with themselves, I imagine they would see that high school was not what they had anticipated. Personally, I drifted into high school deeming it would be no different than any of my pervious school years; however, I was erroneous about that. High school showed me that I can learn more about life and love in any classic novel than I can by talking to anyone I know today, you will only find about two real friends, and never rely on someone else to
Winning this scholarship, would indeed be a jumpstart in the financial aid department. In my family, we have little luxuries, but it is just enough to live life in laughter and to appreciate the good moments we have together. Finding happiness in hard times is a quality I always want to have. To be honest, my ultimate goal is to inspire as many people as I can. A way I will fulfill my goal is by becoming a teacher. To express how opportunities are limitless and should be taken. In the like manner, how my experience in high school has been. For example, I took the chance of raising a goat for the district livestock show and the experience was worthwhile as I learned entrepreneurship, health treatments and companionship. As a high school senior,
In high school there are many drawbacks compared to college. However, there are some advantages. For example, homework was something that could be done the night before, or even the class before it was due. The “take home” work that was given was very simple and students did not need much time to complete it. Most of the time, homework was the work that the student was not able to finish in class. Another advantage in high school, is always being reminded of what you need to complete. The teachers are always there to let you know that something is going to be due soon. Having the same set schedule can be fun, because everybody switches classes and has lunch at the same, so you are always able to see and communicate with your friends. Also, high school classes, books, and lunch are all free or have a very small cost.
