Equity vs. Equality
How far should the society go when treating someone with equality and equity? Equality and equity should be displayed only to the extent that it is right in God’s eyes. When both equity and equality come together in a Godly way all people from all societies will benefit successfully through equity, be equal with genders and races, and the outcomes will help some or all of the society.
Equity can come with success because in society people can get their needs met but not everything that people need is good. An equity example is a student is struggling in grammar, but another student is really advanced in grammar. So what the teacher does is give the student that struggles help, and the advanced kid higher level grammar. Both of these students have very different needs but the success was that both students learned and understood grammar. Another example is a little girl wants the boy’s toy, so the little girl starts throwing a tantrum. The little girl needs the toy to make the tantrum stop, but does the parent take away the toy from the boy to make the girl stop? Of course not. What a good parent would do is discipline their child. In this case, equity didn’t turn out as a success, but some things that people need in society are not always good for their life. In conclusion, equity works for most situations but not all.
Throughout the society, people are not giving the same chances because of the color of their skin, or their gender, but by using the act of equality the society can be given the same opportunities. "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." -Martin Luther King Jr. The color of people's skin or if someone if a girl or boy, should not decide whether or not someone can do something. The society has the same opportunity to do something but it is the society's decision to do it. In some cases, equality can be used to bring people's God-given talents down because equality can mean that each person is the same or gets the same things even though it might not be needed. Whatif all of the society was
Throughout history equality has impacted many people’s lives. There are numerous equality problems that the United States has faced through the years. Even today, in the 21st century, we still experience inequality.
Equality defines the state of being equal opening up many opportunities and rights to everybody no matter who they are. It can build a strong society if applied correctly. “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut and “Al Roosten” by George Saunders are two short stories regarding the effects of varying levels of social equality, creating a negative response. Both of these stories demonstrate the effects of equality and the power it has to shape society and people. Harrison from “Harrison Bergeron” is found in a society with highly advanced equality whereas Al from “Al Roosten” is struggling in a society dealing with the opposite however, both characters and societies are struggling with the negative effects. The negative effects that come with
Equality is the key to a successful and enjoyable life. If you treat everyone as equals, without prejudice, and you’re not racist, you will like yourself better as a person, and people will respect you. In “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks”, Henrietta’s whole family was treated unfairly because the cells were taken without permission. Her family felt discriminated against, and they disliked the science community as a whole. Then Rebecca came and treated them equally and with respect, and they respected her very much. This shows that even though someone feels negative against a person or a part of society because something has happened to them, if they see that some people treat them equally and respect them, they won’t always feel like that. Another example of equality would be in the book “The Fault in Our Stars”. Hazel has cancer, and she gets so many more things than a normal person would get. This is a different kind of example
Equality can be interpreted in many ways, as we can see throughout the history such as racial, gender, and socio-economic equality. The Civil Rights emphasize that everybody should be treated equally and another view is the one represented in the story that everybody is equal. It is a completely out of reality to have a perfect society or no competition at all because how we could make advancements if the government was allowed to impose handicaps on the naturally gifted. The great thinkers would not be able to have new ideas because of the mental
Sadly, we live in a society where not all individuals are given the same opportunities and rights as others. Just like Individuals tend to be split groups of passing and privilege it also coincides with the oppressed groups and privileged groups. Oppressed groups tend to be denied values such as equal rights or opportunities because of their culture.
Equality seems to be very good to have and it seems like everyone should have it, but is it really that good? Surely everyone should have it, but how much equality should be? “The Giver” and “Harrison Bergeron” both show examples of utopia and equality but both don’t work out. Our world wouldn’t be a better place if everyone are lifted up onto the same level, because although equality is very important and good, complete equality will be a bad thing, and complete equality is something that would never happen in our world. Equality is quite important for the majority of us, it is also good for society and the world.
Society should not be equal because we are all different even if they did put use in groups based on are similarities there still would be some difference. In the story ”Harrison Bergeron” the main characters has a son and he is different and they want him to be equal so they lock him up and but all these device on him to make him just like everyone else. “. He is a genius and an athlete, is under-handicapped, and should be regarded as extremely dangerous.” “ Harrison Bergeron single the ones that look or talk different or dance better “She must have been extraordinarily beautiful, because the mask she wore was hideous. And it was easy to see that she was the strongest and most graceful of all the dancers, for her handicap bags were as big as those worn by two-hundred pound men”.They want everyone to be the same so they make the special people handicap so they won't be different.
Many people believed that equality is a big factor in opening doors to more opportunities in life. If there is fairness and respect at a job it can create opportunities for others to be promoted. As jobs hired people they must treat all applicants as equals, and treat each and every individual with fairness and respect. An example is that some jobs require a higher standard of education for a person to be able to apply or even get into an interview. If someone has a bachelors and another person has only his high school diploma, the one who would get hired is the person with his
M1): Analyze the importance to public services of good citizens respecting equality and supporting them by respecting the key concepts associated with diversity.
“What is equality?” one might ask. We all have different views on specific topics and can describe what something truly means to one’s self like in the 3 text, “I have a dream,” by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (published; 8/28/1963, genre; narrative and argumentative), “If we must die,” by Claude Mckay (published; 1919, genre; narrative and lyric), & “Harrison Bergeron,” by Kurt Vonnegut Jr. (published; October 1961, genre; satirical & dystopian science-fiction short story). In all 3 texts the authors are giving their touch on equality. Equality can convey being treated the same when a colored and a white man/woman are next to each other as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr says. You can also see equality as Mckay who thinks it’s being on the same level of strength and worth as a white man being in the shoes of a colored man. Or equality can be being exactly the same in every way as anyone around you in every exact way in Vonnegut’s eyes. All these 3 authors have a particular view on how to answer “What is equality?” and we can compare their ideas.
Americans will always find a way to help others, wether this is in serving our country through military, government, or research to help better ourselves. I believe that through encouragement, not force, we can raise the public service rates in our country.
The United Methodist Church is among the most common denominations of Christianity in the United States. Its roots can be traced to missionaries sent to America from England for the Church of England, Charles and John Wesley ("Roots (1736–1816) - The United Methodist Church" Dec, 14). In many Cases, John Wesley was known to start the denomination of Methodism because of all his hard work and determination he put into perfecting his religion. In 1738 John Wesley felt his heart was “Strangely warmed” while at a prayer assembly just as he was beginning to loose hope for preaching. He began to preach from experience and with this led the movement for reform of his religion in England. He began to have followers, and in order to follow him, he
The society is not equal because no can truly be changed on the inside, no matter how you may try to change them on the outside. Also if society were truly equal everyone would have handicaps and their handicaps would be the same, there would not just be a certain amount of people with handicaps, everyone would have them because equality is being the same and if only a certain amount of people had handicaps that would not be equal. Everyone has different qualities and different strengths and weakness's and if people were meant to be equal to each other, people would be, however everyone is different and unique. In conclusion no matter what anyone ever does or tries to do to society, no one will ever be truly equal to one another because the only way that would be possible, is if people were made that way but people were not, so no one is or ever will be truly
Capital punishment also known as the death penalty refers to the lawful infliction of death as a punishment. The first case of death penalty laws was first established in the Eighteenth Century B.C. Capital punishment is still used in the United States despite the controversy surrounding the law. Death penalty is done by either fastening the criminal to an electric chair, hanging or a firing squad shooting at the criminal.
