By the end of the story, Equality 7-2521 has changed his mind and become very critical of the leaders of his society, denouncing them in moral terms. Do you think he is correct to do so? Why or why not? Do you think he would agree with the advice that Rand offers in her short essay “How Does One Lead a Rational Life in an Irrational Society?”? Explain. We are Equality 7-2521, which is written on our bracelet. We are twenty-one years old and six feet tall. We were born with a curse and have sinned many times. We were born without being able to choose what we were able to do and dared not ask why it was set up that way. We have broken the law of writing on paper. We have also broken the law of doing the unknown; a crime with no name, but enough is enough and we want to know why? Is it because of our height? Is it because of the way we look? If it is, what is the point, we believe that everyone has potential and everyone should apply for what they do, but yet you have to go to the Council of Vocation and to them this is a sin. This is why we Equality 7-2521 disagree with the Council of Vocation and why we denounce the very fact of our world and our moral leaders. This is also the reason we have excluded ourselves from this world. For we have found a tunnel that leads to the time of the unknown (which is also a sin) and have also found electricity. We went to the council of Vocation to show our findings, but yet we were turned down because the council believed that since we were street sweepers we could not find anything like this.
