Equality 7-2521 Analysis

In the book Equality 7-2521 was definitely not fair to all. He found a tunnel during the book and he didn’t want anybody to know about the tunnel. And I felt as though that if somebody would of known about the tunnel, then the tunnel could have been put to good use. Throughout the days, Equality 7-2521 has been experimenting the power of electricity until one day he successful succeeds. A box of glass when its wires are connected was all it took to create "the power of sky." He believes that the Council will be enraged with his invention. With his invention created he believes he will be moved to the Home of Scholars. One day Equality 7-2521 gets caught in the tunnel. He was past the three hours he had. The House of Council take him to the Palace of Corrective Detention but ends up escaping and going back to the tunnel and finding that nothing has been touched. Equality 7-2521 takes his box and enters the Home of Scholars. He meets all of them and they question his identity and he tells them he is a Street Sweeper. When he connects the wires, and they all freak out and they threaten him with torture and execution. The World of Council say that its best to destroy the light. He leaves running and doesn't know where he is going. He ends up in Uncharted

Equality 7-2521 is the protagonist of the story he is twenty-one years old, scientific research is what gives meaning and joy to his life. He will not abandon it though he knows the severity of the punishment that awaits him if he's caught. He refuses to surrender the electric light to the authorities when he realizes that they will destroy it. Liberty 5-3000 is Equality’s long lost lover, and she looks up to him. Her spirit is shown in her actions as well as in her appearance. Liberty 5-3000 breaks the laws of her society to pursue her dreams. She sees Equality 7-2521 and often thinks of him even though the state bans a woman to become interested in another man except when it's time for marriage. One night Equality stayed out too late in in his tunnel, he refused to tell the authorities his whereabouts, and he was sent to prison. Equality finally escaped prison to show his invention to the Council. When he and his invention was turned down they threatened him so he ran into the woods to live by his own rules. He soon realized the “Golden One” was falling him.

Since his work was not the collective work of him and his brothers, the work he has done is evil, and is not good for the society. Equality 7-2521 also presented his papers, that he has written, as his confession, documenting the work that he has done, along with the sins, and transgressions he had committed. After Equality 7-2521 presented his light box, the World Council of Scholars tried to destroy it, however, when they, the World Council of Scholars, tried to destroy his work, Equality 7-2521 jumped out of the window and ran into the Uncharted Forest. In the story Anthem by “Ayn Rand”, the character “Equality 7-25-21” becomes an excellent example of a dynamic character. As he discovers hidden inventions of the past, he challenges the beliefs of the Society. At first, Equality agrees with Society’s rules. As the story progresses, however, he starts questioning Society’s rules, a particular turning point being when he discovers electricity. By the time he writes his last entry, his views are completely opposite than at the beginning.

This quote represents the individuality in the book. This was the first time Equality has experienced freedom. It is the first time he refers to himself as “I” instead of “We”. At the beginning of the book it was discussed “the unspeakable word” which it was now discovered it is “I”. This quote goes against everything the council and his “ brothers” believe in and everything he used to believe.

In this book the council, which is another way of saying the government, has a law known as the “we” law. This law states that no human can refer to themselves as one person. Each and every person must call themselfs “we” and considering the circumstances, “our” as if they are multiple people. The council feels as if they must have this rule because if these humans were to go around talking as if they are one person, it would be unequal. Which is a huge law, they must all be equal, no exceptions. One character acknowledges, “We are one in all and all in one. There are no men but only the great WE, One, indivisible and forever.” (Rand 19). This quote is a strong quote

Equality has lived in a world where the candle is the peak of societal technology, and he is only now realizing that there is more. By going off on his own and discovering things for himself, as an individual, Equality has come to incredible conclusions.

By giving the members of this society no freedom, there is no room for conflict or violence. Also, this type of civilization would most likely stay completely organized, because all members are assigned a job that benefits the community. The individuals living in this dystopia are only living to serve the State, and there is no other purpose in life. The men and women living here are brainwashed and have not yet realized that there is so much more to life. It seems as if everyone relives the same day over and over again, completely unaware that they are being restricted from amazing life opportunities.

In addition, Equality 7-2521 continues to develop the theme when he is curious about how to capture lightning. This is when Equality 7-2521 creates a box that contains the energy of the sky which is known to a reader as a light bulb.
