Between 1923 and 1972, when the Equal Rights passed you would believe that Gender Equality would end. It was passed in 35 states. General Equality has been going on for years. Everything would make everything so much easier if it was Equal for both a men and a women. Where it’s at home, at work, or even at school. Why does one gender have to be better than another? ‘’Achieving Gender equality in education means that boys and girls will have equal opportunities to realize their full human rights and contribute to and benefit from economic, social, cultural, and political development.’’ Our generation can benefit so much. But it if they can benefit why is this only happening in 35 states instead of all over the world. The biggest Gender Equality problem has to do with education. A person’s education shouldn’t be determine because of their Gender. Both a man and a women can have the same passion for education for wanting to be someone and go somewhere in life. In Pakistan a women doesn’t have the equal right to go to school and learn? This isn’t just happening in Pakistan, it’s passing in many other places. Now why does this affect a women more than it a man? And that’s because in Pakistan a women doesn’t have the same right in education as a man does. But why not do something about it. Providing a quality, education leads to improved enrollment and retention but also helps to ensure that boys and girls are able to fully realize the benefits of education.
Inequalities still
At this time period racism and discrimination was going on, women were fighting for equal rights. However African American women had to fight double because of racism.
My grandmother has spent many years in the Middle East, working on the sick because she was a doctor. While she was there she had to escorted by her husband to go to work. Also, people were harsh towards for the way she dressed. In the Middle East such as Iraq and Afghanistan, the government has the ability to decide what the citizens get to know what's going in the world. Also, women do not have the same rights and they are not educated. In America, we get the privilege and the right to know what's going on in the world and women have equal rights as men. I am very glad I have the privilege to be equal as every else unlike many people in different countries around the world.
As a caucasian teenage citizen of the United States of America, I am part of a privileged race. I am able to observe discrimination and segregation to other races and members of my country, as most of it is not being done to me individually. However, knowing that LGBTQ people and people of color are being dehumanized, even though the year is now 2015 and same-sex marriage is legal in all fifty states, infuriates me on a very high level. Equal rights in the United States is important to me because I strongly believe that everyone should be treated equally and with respect, no matter your sexual-orientation or race.
What does it feel like to not have the right to vote, work, or even marry? Thousands of Americans through the centuries have experienced this, solely due to the way that they were born. America has fought for equal rights for hundreds of years. America has battled for the equal rights of slaves, segregation, women’s right to vote, and the right for men and women to marry the same gender.
Equal rights for women has been in an ongoing conversation throughout America, especially when it comes to the workforce. Equal pay and opportunity has been fought for, for many years. But can the workforce really be equal if the women do not do their part to strive and stay in work? In Sheryl Sandberg's Ted Talk “Why We Have Too Few Women Leaders” she discusses the topic of how women can rise to the top and become leaders in the world by staying in their line of work. She explains that although equality for women has progressed, leadership positions often lack female occupants. (Sandberg, 2010, page 12) She backs her statements using logos as she goes farther into detail by sharing statistical data. Sandberg gives three fairly simple
Jaleesce, I agree with you regarding woman and equal rights in many ways. Yes, things have changed and have moved forward, but they are not where they should be. "According to the National Women’s Law Center: “Poverty is a women’s issue. Nearly six in ten poor adults are women, and nearly six in ten poor children live in families headed by women. Poverty rates are especially high for single mothers, women of color, and elderly women living alone.” (Bahadur, 2015) This shows where some issues needs to be addressed to improve these areas to better women and the families they raise. Making these areas strong will develop the people in a better fashion. In my opinion women are proving themselves in many ways to equal to men and this will improve
Women have always been treated as second class citizens in the United States, they have battled for equal treatment and equal rights. Although women have more rights than they used to, there is still much progress to be made. There is a clear discrimination against women to this day; there’s a disadvantage when it comes to the workplace, they get paid less than men and are less likely to have authority positions. To self-identify as a feminist is very stigmatized, it has been difficult to move away from the negative connotations the term has. Feminists are made out to be men-hating lesbians, however, feminism is about equal treatment and even men can self-identify as such. As a woman of color I identify with Bell Hooks, FEMINISM IS FOR EVERYBODY Passionate Politics. Women of color needed feminism that was more inclusive and that advocated for the rights of ALL women, and not just white women. Women are objectified and are a reflection of a patriarchal society.
There came a time in the United States where the so called Equal rights amendment has been ratified. Where women were recognized as housewives, defining them as what women are suppose to do and nothing else. Although these women wanted more in life such as freedom to do what they want just like men do everyday. If the men were able to work, vote, speak, and do as they please then why couldn't women do the same? If everyone had equal rights. Women aren't to be defined as what their identity is or what race they are nor the capabilities and responsibilities they are capable of doing.I strongly agree with these women of wanting to be equal with man because if it wasn't for the woman's right movement, our society today wouldn't allow women to work, teach, play a sport. Basically do a man’s job. Additionally having the woman as housewives because that's what the society and men thought of women, being at home to care for the kids and household. That is why we thank the women's rights movement in our past history that started in 1848. Due to that more girls and women have come to think of themselves as the equals of men. Which has transformed our lives in many ways. For example such as equal pay work as well as even being in the workforce,in general. The opportunities that weren't open for them that are now open as possessing more in terms of options and opportunities. It’s done a great impact because women get to educate themselves to become something they want to be such as a
As things stand now, females, a group constituting approximately half of our nation, are unable to achieve such ends because the educational system puts them at a disadvantage by marginalizing them and placing their needs in learning below those of males. Granted, this is not the case in every school. Many females grow to become very successful individuals and receive the luxury of having teachers who care about their education, who see all in the classroom as equally important to the learning process. However, in a growing number of schools, some form of discrimination, no matter how subtle, exists. If we want to grow as a nation, we need to address this problem and allow all to have an equal chance at success. Perhaps women in our society have it much better than in earlier generations. Perhaps they indeed are afforded more opportunities to receive an education, and a whole new world of job opportunities is open to them that had not existed previously. But by allowing such discrimination to continue to exist, in any form, we convey the message that as a society, we still somehow wish to retain some sense of separateness between the capabilities of the two genders.
Many people are often misinformed or given bad first impressions of feminism. However, feminism is equal rights for all people of different race, sex, gender, and sexuality. Many of the people that give feminism a bad name, include a self-proclaimed feminist that is running for presidency, and meninists who are satirical equal rights activists. In reality, feminism is pro-gender equality and opportunities for all types of people.
Throughout the past few decades, the gender inequality discourse have became a dominant feature of international, national and local policy debate on the subject of economic development. This policy concern has emerged as an area of scholarly research which seeks to show that improving gender equity leads to economic growth.
“Who run the world? Girls,” is an iconic lyric from Beyonce 's “Run the World,” and may give the impression that women have been dominating the world, just like men. What a listener will not hear in “Run the World” is how long it took and how much effort it took just to give women the slight feeling of equality that they have today. The rights women have now would not be in place without the feminist movement, starting in the 1960s. In the 60s, women began to take action, believing that the phrase, “all men are created equal”(United States Declaration of Independence), includes all people, not just males. By analyzing recent acts for women 's rights and equality, one can see that modern feminism is representative of the feminist culture in
Throughout the last century, women have had to fight to have the same opportunities as men. Women have had to earn the right to vote, the right to have a career, and the right to autonomy. However, these are all rights that men have simply been given, which is why today’s feminists work to promote equality. Despite these efforts, feminism is often misunderstood and is interpreted with a negative connotation. According to a study conducted by Precopio and Ramsey (2017), “feminism is commonly recognized as a movement driven to grant social, political, and economic equality to both women and men.” The participation of others besides women is crucial to the spread of equality among the genders. Furthermore, the stigma and negative feelings surrounding feminism must be reduced in order for the ideals of feminism to have a greater impact.
Gender equality, also known as sex equality or equality of the genders, is the view that men and women should receive equal treatment, and should not be discriminated against based on gender. For years, it’s been notably held that women have been given far less freedom than men. For example, having to do with sexual expression. If a woman is too sexually active, too daring, too “freaky” in the sack, she gets labeled a slut. In contrast, men have been praised for their sexual prowess, “high-fived for wantonness,” accorded “player” status for acting like big shots. That goes for most comparisons towards a man. Men are brought up to think that the way to prove their masculinity isby material means. We do a much greater damage to girlsbecause we raise them to think that it’s their obligation to cater to the fragile egos of male mainly having to do with what their male counterparts would think of them. We’re teaching girls to dumb themselves down for the approval of a man. To make themselves less than what they are. We say to girls: you can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, to be somebody. Not too successful that you will threaten the man’s ego. If you are the one who brings in the most money in the household in your relationship with a man, pretend that you are not, especially in public, otherwise you will emasculate him. As if women weren’t capable to take care of themselves.
Today Women in America can scarcely imagine not having the right to vote or choose a career or attend a university. Young women in college take these opportunities and rights for granted, but it hasn’t been that long ago in human history that women found themselves in a very patriarchal, male dominated world. The rise of feminism in the United States has gradually brought about women’s equality in just the past century and for that we women are very grateful. But are there exceptions to full equality and should there be complete equality in all situations?
