Equal Opportunity Another reason to adopt a universal health care plan is equality. In addition to the protected Equal Opportunity categories such as race or gender, an unofficial category of wealth should be considered. If two individuals both have the same medical condition, they should get the same quality of care regardless of profession or monetary worth, because all life holds equal value. No man is inherently better than any of his fellow men. Under our current system, a person or family living in a lower financial class may only be able to afford an insurance policy that offers a lower coverage of medical expenses, or may not be able to afford a health care plan at all (How Health Insurance Marketplace Plans Set Your Premiums). Comparatively, a wealthy individual would be able to afford to pay for an insurance policy that offers a wider range of services, and therefor access to a higher quality of care or more medical procedures. Universal Health care would mean the same level of care for everyone, regardless of financial class. Some citizens might worry that a plan for everyone might result in a lack of diversity. They should remember that a federally funded health care system could still be augmented by a …show more content…
Currently, businesses with fifty or more full time employees must provide health insurance for those employees and their dependents or pay a fee (How the Affordable Care Act Affects Small Businesses). This is a hindrance to some, and in fact stifles the growth of small businesses in America. If these companies were not forced to provide insurance for their employees, they would be able to spend the money elsewhere. The funds could go to other employee benefits such as more vacation and bonuses or even for expanding the business. The implications of more privately owned business, or the expanse of already existing businesses, is that there will be more jobs
Whilst currently on work placement at the community centre I have been asked to write a report as part as my portfolio. The care centre in which I am currently at provides a variety of services. The centre provides a variety of services and promotes equality, diversity whilst also promoting anti-discriminatory behaviour.
In addition to this, healthcare providers and doctors will not have to worry about all the insurance paperwork and procedures. This letsfrees them to be able to solely focus on the patient and to give them the best care. Lastly, small businesses get the opportunity to grow and become more profitable. Due to so many relying on insurance that their employers provide, many skilled workers would take their talents to big companies that give quality insurance that small companies may not be able to provide. Currently most insurance premiums are extremely high, so with universal health care small business will be able to pay for insurance with the cheaper rates. Overall, small business will be able to grow by employing skilled workers which help increase profits and save money across the board (“Universal Health Care- Health Care For All”, 2017).
The United States is known as one of the greatest world powers: however it is held back by its weak healthcare system. As of 2010 the US healthcare system currently ranks the 37th best out of 190 countries. Before the introduction of the Affordable Care Ac in 2010, the united States had an individual insurance market. It was the responsibility of the individual or their employer, to take care of their healthcare costs. On top of this millions of people could be denied insurance by different agencies due to pre-existing claims. Healthcare was expensive, but the costs were nothing compared to the medical bills owed by an uninsured person. Universal healthcare is a basic right not a privilege. Everyone should be given the opportunity to have health insurance no matter his or her income. Isn’t this the principle of freedom and basic right what America was based on? On half of all bankruptcies in the United States are due to an inability to pay medical bills. These problems all pose a question and the answer Is Universal Healthcare. The federal government has the interest of all American citizens on its mind and universal healthcare is a perfect way of highlighting that fact. The Affordable Care act provides low cost healthcare to the previously uninsured and guarantees continued healthcare in the case of job loss. Many people are still opposed to this act. This new system of universal healthcare will lead to improvements within the lives of American Citizens. There are many
were already providing health insurance because we’re in a competitive market and that helps us to retain and recruit good employees,” the Sacramento-based small business owner said, . One benefit for small businesses are tax credits“For us it was just good business. But pretty quickly we saw that our firm could benefit from the law. What appealed to us about the ACA were the tax credits and other financial incentives” (Taylor, 3), “A tax credit is an amount of money a taxpayer is able to subtract from taxes owed to the government” (investopedia.com , 1). this is good because businesses that barely make any money don't have to pay much taxes and they can maybe get more popularity due to the money they are saving. This is one example of how the ACA helps Small Businesses since …“ObamaCare creates the Small Business Health Options Program or SHOP, a part of each State’s Health Insurance Marketplace, where small businesses with 50 full-time equivalent employees or fewer can shop for group health plans. Starting on November 15th, 2015 those with 100 full-timers or less can use the SHOP” (www.obamacarefacts.com ,2 ). Small businesses are not required to provide health insurance to their employees if they wish because “... the answer is no. Under the Affordable Care Act, businesses with fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees are not required to provide health insurance to their employees, and those employers will not face tax penalties if they decide not to offer their employees health insurance” (resources.ehealthinsurance.com, 1).This is good that very small businesses have the freedom not to get insurance because some businesses need to save money because of the expensive previous health care. Despite it being affordable, ObamaCare has given the freedom for small businesses to not give healthcare to employees. “Since health insurance for small business isn’t mandatory under the ACA, small
Healthcare should be a right for all U.S. citizens because not only would it drastically lower costs from the current healthcare system for both the individual and the government, but also greatly improve healthcare rankings and satisfy the majority of the population. By expanding coverage to all U.S. citizens, universal healthcare would significantly lower healthcare costs for both the individual and the government. Without a doubt, something should be done to fix the current healthcare system; it is just a matter of what should be done. Over the past several years, the cost of healthcare in the U.S. has risen significantly and does not seem to lower, surpassing “$2.2 trillion in 2007”. Universal Health Care is a "Social Program", not "socialized medicine"; under Universal Health Care, one can choose any doctor(s) or public hospital (A "private" hospital, even in the U.S.A. today, is just that. A hospital that is exclusive to the general population according to the wealth and contacts of an individual. There is no "out of network" doctor, hospital or medical facility in the program.
Healthcare disparities within racial minority groups are an ongoing issue in the United States. Factors that affect these disparities are overall quality of care, access to healthcare, and access to insurance. Numerous efforts have been made to decrease the access and quality of care for minorities. The current intervention being used is the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This act was initiated by President Obama in 2010 and has had much controversy in the past years. The main arguments are the ACA increasing the taxes for Americans and the fact that all Americans must obtain insurance if proper funds are available. In 2014 the ACA Medicaid expanded and each state had the opportunity to expand if the state believed it appropriate. Out of the 50
Universal healthcare in the U.S. would be a bad idea for the reason that the government would have to spend more money, which means that the American people would have to pay higher taxes than we already do. In the U.S.A. the public pays $4,103.82 per person and the private cost per person is $4,609.18 which put together is more than $8,000.00 dollars per person. If you are to have universal health care in America government spending would have to increase. But you can't just take a country where the government spends about 47% of the health care cost in the U.S. to a single-payer. Universal health care, government spending would have to increase and if government spending increased taxes would be higher.
Imagine you’ve just graduated a four school and you have crazy debt and you are paying medical bills because you got hurt playing a sport. Which brings the question should College athletes be paid the right the athletes deserve? I believe the athletes should be paid.
Millions of Americans suffer from not having health insurance each day. Many Americans cannot afford health coverage or they have been denied by insurance companies for outrageous reasons. Because of the current health care system, many families cannot manage to pay for health insurance. Many people with pre-existing illnesses are denied coverage, and many medications that people, such as seniors, need are too costly to pay for. Every day, someone is suffering from a life threatening illness that could easily be cured with proper treatment if they had health coverage. I believe that free universal health care should be available for all Americans because everyone is worthy of medical care even if they cannot afford it.
The Prince is a straightforward and educational book written by Niccolò Machiavelli to properly illustrate and advise princes on how to run their territories. Despite being a short book it took me many days to read because of the language used and how in depth the book goes into, what I thought, were some pretty mundane topics. I’m not familiar with how royalty is expected to govern, so I found it difficult to comprehend the politics that Machiavelli described. I discovered, quite quickly, that most of the topics written about in the book could've been summed up in one or two sentences instead of a whole chapter. While some of the chapters were quite extraneous, some made good points quite relative to the subject at hand.
Have you ever been to the doctor and don't quite understand what the provider is telling you, or are you a healthcare worker and you don't understand your patients? Should the healthcare provider get diversity training or should they maybe learn new languages? More than ever before, healthcare professionals are subjected to dealing with a number of immense and different cultural diversities. While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to all the qualities that make people different. Diversity requires more than knowing about individual differences and it key for overcoming cross-cultural barriers in healthcare.
Tennessee Williams, the author of the historical fiction play The Glass Menagerie, wrote the play in the style of retrospection. As we see the effects from youthful choices and situations on the present, one gets a very intimate relationship with the past. Like a domino effect, each and every action by one person affects another; a kind of holistic act of consequence. For example, Amanda Wingfield’s husband leaves her, throwing her into a state of dishevelment and disenchantment, which affects her son Tom (whose point of view the play is told from), and daughter Laura. Amanda can be perceived as a villain, an harbinger of stress and upset to other characters.
When it comes to our health, a good healthcare plan is a very important subject for all individuals. Some even argue that it is a basic right to have one. Bernie Sanders stated, “Healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income…” (“Issues: Medicare for All”). However, reality tells us a whole different story. America is one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical care. Yet, how can the people enjoy the benefits when it is almost unaffordable to most. People are afraid to fall sick just because they are afraid of how much it would cost. However, sometimes a doctor or hospital visit is unavoidable. In most cases, it comes at a great price, especially to the middle class and the elderly. Wealthy individuals are likely to reap the benefits of having an expensive healthcare plan, while the rest may suffer from the unimaginable cost of treatments, or even worse, live a risky life without insurance. An effective solution to this problem would be a Universal Healthcare System. This would ensure that all people have equal and affordable health coverage, centralized healthcare records for all individuals which will help easy diagnosis by doctors and reduce the intensive labor costs of medical billing. Moreover, it may boost the economy by freeing business from providing expensive healthcare benefits to workers.
A big argument against universal healthcare stems from the impatience and selfishness we embody as a society. For some people, long and dreadful wait times are the greatest socialism-induced evil possible. In a universal healthcare system, these extended wait times exist as the byproduct of giving everyone the equal opportunity to receive care. With more money going towards doctors and hospitals, it’s possible to cut back on these wait times but despite this it is still a more beneficial than not being able to receive a service at all. This happens in the United
Small businesses are contrived to give all of their employees health care due to Medicare. Through the terms of ObamaCare, small businesses are compelled into closing their doors because of all the hand outs they have to get to their employees. When small business begin to become more successful and make more money, Medicare takes their profits away and gives it to people who don't really need it. ObamaCare and Medicare have both taught ignorant Americans to not get a job because they can get the same amount of money in the form of a hand out instead of actually working for it and contributing to the economy. The tax breaks for small firms and other factors are reliant by how much small businesses spend on health coverage (Harrison). Tax
