Enlisted Distribution and Assignment System
The Enlisted Distribution and Assignment System (EDAS) is a one-stop-shop for commander’s and assignment managers to communicate availability of assignments and unit strength projections throughout the Army. According to the United States Army Human Resources Command (HRC), “EDAS is a real time, interactive automated system that supports the management of the enlisted force” (2009, p. 3). EDAS is vital to managing almost 400,000 enlisted personnel around the world. Based on an average three year assignment, that is over 100,000 assignments that are processed through EDAS annually.
Characteristics of the Users of the System There are a select few number of individuals within any organization that have access to EDAS. The main users of EDAS that input all of the information work for Human Resources Command as assignment managers. Each Career Management Field (CMF) has an assignment manager associated with it. There are other users that have read only access to the system. Each organization has an S1, or human resources shop. Within this shop there may be one or two users with read-only access to EDAS. These users must have training in proper management of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and be approved for access by their local Commander.
