Heroism in Children
Heroism, something all kids look to when dealing with problems. A kid being a hero, unheard of, until now. Is being a hero always a good thing? In Ender’s Game, Ender shows many qualities of heroism and defeats the bugger, saving the human race without knowing he was doing harm to anyone. Is killing millions of people really worth the title of being a hero?
First, Ender explains that his thoughts on how he is displaced about destroying the buggers, but Mazer assures him, “You made the hard choice, boy. All or nothing. End them or end us. But heaven knows there was no other way you could have done it. Congratulations. You beat them and it’s all over” (296). A young boy, six years old, making life or death decisions. Regretting the past is one of the biggest issues that leads to depression and possibly suicide in military veterans.Relatively, Ender Wiggin exclaims his empathy for the buggers he destroyed e when it is found that the buggers did not actually want to harm human race. Genocide happen all because of some miscommunication and judging leaders. Ender says, “In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it's impossible to really understand somebody, in the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it's impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, and that very moment when I love them…”(240). Ender is upset because he understands the I know me so much that he can for many good connections and evaluations. Ender kills the buggers and has many regrets later because he knows they have good sides too. Only a good leader and soldier is able to compete at that level of moral combat with oneself and
