The book has a repeated theme of Ender being put down emotionally and physically. Along with his childhood, his identity is taken away from him. Ender is put through endless training with little rest and is put under an immense lot of pressure. We can see this when Ender's Dragon Army is scheduled battles one after another when the other armies only have one a day. Ender is also outnumbered by being made to battle two armies, this took a toll on Ender mentally as he had to come up with many new ideas to defeat the opposition. This also took a toll on Ender physically as he would spend his time where he was supposed to be resting, making up new routines, he became unrested and physically weak. We are constantly seeing Ender being put under a
One was that he was moved from his launchy group to salamander army. Bronzo the leader of salamander army didn't want ender to be in his army because Ender was only six. But Ender did meet a friend in salamander named Petra. Petra basically took Ender under her wing and showed him the basics of the game. Then Bonzo traded Ender to rat army there he meet some pretty nice people. He then started his own training group with his old friends from his launch group, word got out and some of the older boys didn't like that ender was teaching kids how to fight. So they ganged up and tried to fight Ender and his friends. They older boys didn't know how good the kids were and lost.
After Ender’s important battle, they tell him that all of it was real and that he had actually defeated the buggers. Ender thinks to himself, “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mind was too tired to cope with it all. They weren’t just points of light in the air, they were real ships that he had fought with and real ships he had destroyed. And a real world that he had blasted into oblivion. He walked through the crowd, dodging their congratulations, ignoring their hands, their words, their rejoicing” (Card 297). When Ender realizes that they have been lying to him and using him as a weapon, he becomes angry. Ender yells at Graff and Mazer, “‘ I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’” (Card 297). If Ender would have known that he would have killed people and creatures, he would not have gone to battle school in the first place. Death is very hard on Ender and he does not know how he can live with such a burden. Ender’s change in character is due to him being a victim of
I think it’s about forgiveness because at the end of the book, Ender finds the last bugger queen and she forgives him and the humans for the bugger wars. After the bugger queen forgives Ender, he takes the last queen’s egg. In the book it says, “‘I’ll carry you,’ Ender said, ‘I’ll go from world to world until I find a time and place where you can come awake in safety. And I’ll tell your story to my people, so that perhaps in time they can forgive you too. The way that you’ve forgiven me.’” This connects to everyday life because people have to forgive each other everyday, if there was no forgiveness in this world, there would be a lot more fighting, death, crime, hatred,
These people wanted to manipulate Ender’s natural character by taking him from those he loves, Forcing him to depend only on himself and not need assistance from anyone. While this learned self-reliance looks good for the I.F, Ender will break after being detached from everyone he grew close to during this book. My point is the fact that it changes the way a person behaves, this passage explains how after they completed what they wanted to do (isolate him)he became depressed. I feel that a message the author was trying to send was that no compassion for the way someone else is feeling leads to ruthlessness. The people that were talking about Ender did not care for the fact that they were making a six year old depressed, this ruthlessness changed a shy boy into a sad, lonely
He was moved and sent to a group with much older kids. Once again the author chose to use uniqueness along with perseverance and smarts to allow the reader to return the basic elements displayed in the book. The sentence should cause the reader to relapse into the ideas of ‘how does this relate to the previous scenes and what could cause a change?’. Given the fact that Ender is a young child, the use of the previously listed elements are amplified as the main character is forced to experience trials different than
In “Ender’s Game” the building blocks of Ender’s home are the deceit of those in his life, the constant feeling of isolation, and most importantly his loss of innocent identity. The first of the foundational stones of Ender’s home is that of lies and deceit from everyone in his life; this is most impactful when
Ender is at school and life is normal until he gets his monitor taken out. After it is taken out, he is bullied by the class and he begins to think that he is a failure. He gets into a fight, where his strategic fighting abilities and sheer brutality gets him noticed. He ended up killing the boy he was fighting, though he is not aware of it. This part of the book is Ender’s call to adventure.
Ender goes through many hard things, including bullying, being overworked, sleep-deprived, and trying to not be like his brother Peter. While Ender is at school in space, Peter and Valentine try to gain trust of the people on Earth. Ender gets promoted to be the commander of the entire fleet. And with the help of his friends, and
I know you can't believe that these young boys are out of school to be in a battle? Be careful who you mess with because they can attack you right back the theme of Ender's Game is internal struggles are not always apparent therefore it's important not to judge one another because it can be hurtful, one may Outcast others and one may be proven wrong. Throughout Ender's Game, Ender is getting judged and it can be very hurtful and hard for him for example as can be found in the text it says that quote quote well no one wants a third anymore you can expect them to be glad. (card 22). This shows and draws attention to children because families are judged based on how many kids they have and how they act anybody can judge you or your child.
Ender believes that he is a brutal person and sees his actions as nothing but pure destruction. He is ashamed of his inability to control his actions and believes that deep down he wants to cause pain of that immensity; his belief convinces himself that there is no hope for him. Above all, the overwhelming guilt Ender experiences causes him to struggle with believing that he possesses his
Ender has been through many ups and downs and in this story; Ender descends into darkness mostly figuratively. For example, when Ender defeated the Formics without even knowing, he had a meltdown. “Ender grabbed Mazer’s uniform and hung onto it, pulling him down so they were face to face. ‘I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’ He was crying. He was out of control” (298). This exemplifies how much this situation had constrained Ender, making it the hardest and most downfall moment of his life. In the quote it also mentioned Peter, the person he despises the most. Ender does not like the fact that the I.F.
Ender was a very strong individual and did not conform, he fought through the hard times even when everyone else doubted him. It is unnecessary to push people over their limit for one’s own desire or wellbeing. Sometimes Ender was pushed too hard by the teachers, and when he finally hit his limit he stopped trying, because he was tired of conforming. Ender thought, “I don’t care anymore... You can keep your game.
46. Ender is given the dragon army because this army was retired in the past and lost all of its battles and got to be a joke. A quote to shows this is “No Dragon Army in the history of the Battle School ever won even a third of its games,” (Scott, card156). This shows that Graff wanted Ender to bring back the army and make them win some battles.
Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is about a boy named Ender Wiggin. When he is 6 years old he is taken from his home to go train in a place called Battle School to fight aliens, or “buggers”. He learns to command an army and plays games to train for the battle against the buggers. When the game is over, Ender learns it isn’t a game at all and they have won the war against the buggers. Two themes in this books are “Life isn’t always going to be fair”, and “Make the best of what you have.” These two themes are in the book because Ender has to deal with having a horrible army to train and the teachers aren’t fair to Ender at all.
When Ender is at the battle school, it is evident that the training and harsh atmosphere is taking a toll on him, “Since becoming commander, he never slept more than five hours a night…Sometimes he worked at his desk…straining his eyes to use the dim display. Usually, though, he stared at the invisible ceiling and thought” (Card 174). Later, he is not even able to get a joke, “therefore Dr. Device. It was a joke.’ Ender didn’t see what was funny about it” (Card 273). When Ender discovered he was tricked into destroying the entirety of the buggers, he became depressed thinking about the genocide that he had just committed, “Real. Not a game. Ender’s mid was too tired to cope with it all. They weren’t just points of light in the air, they were real ships that he had fought with and real ships he had destroyed. And a real world he had blasted to oblivion” (Card 297).
