Regaining consciousness, I try looking around, but my vision is still foggy. My head aching, I can feel blood run down the side of my face. I had been struck by a blunt object, and restrained! My hands are tied behind my back, with a material so strong, not even my monstrous strength could break loose of it’s hold. Regaining my vision, I look out to the ocean. I can see enormous ships, with sailing technology far more advanced than my brain could ever comprehend. I could see tiny figures, hundreds of them racing down the ship like a ants colonizing to fetch dinner. “Invaders!”, I growled with the remaining energy I had. “Who are they? What do they want with me?”, i asked myself. I could hear loud, painful screams coming from behind. It was …show more content…
I was on one of the ships, i could feel the ship rock back forth as it rode the waves. The room was illuminated by a hanging ball of light. The new discovery blew my mind, I did not understand how the room was blessed with the Suns clarity, without a sun being present. I heard moans all around me, I looked to my sides and saw men and different beings chained to the wall I was on. “Where am I!”, I shouted. “You shouldn’t make so much noise, you’ll make them come back and make your world turn black.” Said a man chained to the wall next to my left. I asked who he was and what he knew about all of this. “I am Mitees from the land of Hagrid”, He responded. “ I was a farmer, a slave of a great man, before i was enslaved by these beasts. “Beasts? these are no beast, they are puny!” I shot back. “You must help me escape, we need to fight back!” I demanded. The man’s face looked as if he hadn’t eaten in years. He looked up at me, with no hope in his face, and he answered, “Do not let the size of these beings fool you monster. Their ability and power is far more intelligent and advanced than we have ever witnessed. Our weaponry had no match against their small, shiny fireballs that riddled our people with gaping holes. They stripped our beautiful rich vegetation, and slaughtered our warriors. Our children and weak men became ill and died within a day. They invaded our land for 3 days, those 3 days felt like 3 life times. I prayed to my god’s …show more content…
They must have been here long before I was captured. My body was growing weaker, I could feel my hope slowly fade. I wasn’t just giving up on escaping, I was giving up on life itself. What is left for me after all this. I will no longer be able to roam the land I once loved. The ship came to a stop. The men who invaded my land entered the room. They held their fireball devices pointed at me and removed my chains from the wall, as with everyone else. I was so weak, the thought of fighting back wasn’t an option. I barely had enough strength to stand. They had us in a line, and slowly they walked us out of the room, pulling us by the chains. We were walked off the ship. The sun’s light was so bright that it blinded me. Once i regained my vision, i couldn’t believe what I was looking. Giant shiny mountain like structures, that shot up straight into the sky were all around
The article “The Island in the Wind” written by Elizabeth Kolbert shows that an island can generate clean electricity for its entire population, and hopes the world can too. On the Danish island of Samso lives a population of people who have learned the importance of their environment. In a decade they have switched from being an entirely coal and fossil fuel run island, to producing all of their energy from wind on their own island. Not only are they producing all of their energy yet they are yielding so much that they can export energy to other areas. “ By 2001, fossil-fuel use on Samso had been cut in half. By 2003, instead of importing electricity, the island was exporting it, and by 2005 it was producing from renewable sources more energy
When their party of four arrived at Colonel Andrew’s mansion for his annual birthday bash, the house was already crowded; the overflow of people spilled out into the yard. Allie whispered to Eli that the Colonel must be rich. Eli answered back that he was one of the richest men in Charleston.
“While strongly condemning any attempt to abuse the person of Muhammad, or an insult to our holy places and prejudice against the faith we reject and strongly condemn the use of force to terrorize innocent people and the killing of innocent people” (Benghazi 11). A quote, said by Libyan Prime Minister, Mustafa Abushagar, as a result to the attack on a United States Embassy in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. This attack is considered an act of terror on the United States and as a result, four Americans were killed. Set in a post 9/11 setting, this event is one of the most controversial. Some people believe Hilary Clinton, former Secretary of State, did not do enough with security at international embassies, while others believe that she did everything she could and was supposed to. The bombing of the US
“I’m Randy Kim, I was a police officer before everything went to shit. Most of these guys are prior law enforcement. Look we’re only trying to protect our own.”
With all preparations made for our big water crossing, provisions laid in, fresh water on board, poop tanks emptied, cooler packed with ice and beer, fuel tanks filled up, we left Sanibel knowing it would be many days before we saw civilization again. After a night on the anchor at Marco Island, we’d be crossing the Gulf of Mexico, heading do South, Destination - The Keys!
I was plunged into what I equate with the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean. I spent months, years even, quite literally, drowning. I didn’t just have cramps; I had what felt like a caged bird inside of me, feral and flapping its wings in a frenzy of feathers. I didn’t just feel senses of sharp pain; I had what felt like a neurological Star Wars of cataclysmic proportions exploding inside me, with eternal pinches, twitches, and electric-like shocks--deep and full, like a moan that always stays in a low octave. Sometimes, however, it was more of a burning sensation, like being pressed by a hot iron. Ironically, this invader's attack was invisible to the untrained eye.
“They themselves looked on when, bloody from my foes, I came from the fight where I had bound five, destroyed a family of giants, and at night in the waves slain water-monsters, suffered great pain, avenged an affliction of the Weather-Geats on those who asked for trouble – ground enemies to bits”(8).
Only the most ancient of us remember the wind on our face and the smell of damp earth after the rain. Now we toil within mountains lit by the molten blood of the world. Our faces black with soot from the hell forges, we slave far from the light we placed in the sky.
A very controversial opinions are presented in the article ' 'Should teachers friend their students on Facebook?" by American Teacher scholar magazine. Nancy Willard, director of Embracing Digital Youth and author of Cyber Savvy, thinks it is very crutial to keep a professional communication and a proper distance with students, because social media, if not used properly, may raise a great public concern, and thus, will be treated as an invasion of a personal space. On the other hand, due to Lauren Isaacs Schimko, a math teacher in the North Rockland Central School District and secretary of the North Rockland Teachers ' Association, Facebook may be a great communication tool for teachers-students-parents socializing, helping to enhance
My body slowly responds as I become aware of my surroundings. My fingers curl around soft bed sheets and I vaguely hear the sound of clinking pots and humming. To get away from the sound, I turn my body over and get a face full of couch cushion. For a second, I can’t breathe and I’m transported back to the horrors of my escape. Paul’s hands are around my throat. Glassy eyes staring up at me in a pool of red blood. I’m choking on floating hair, dead limbs, and water. There’s so much water I can’t seem to get a breath. If I go to the surface I’m dead. Water swirls around me and then all is black. I sit up with a gasp of air.
These examples show both the author’s and the protagonist’s challenge to the order of things and the complete belief the character has. The best example of this is on line eight when the king says that he ‘shall not give you the boat’ the man replies ‘with calm assurance’ ‘you will’.
The average U.S. citizen emits about four pounds of municipal solid waste each day. While this number may seem insignificant, think about approximately four pounds multiplied by our current population of about 318.9 million, or the population of Earth, 7.125 billion. With this in mind, think about all of the other detrimental effects we are causing to our planet. Most humans are not concerned for our planet, nor do we care about other species inhabiting Earth, which may lead us to consider other ways of living, such as Nash’s idea of an island civilization.
“Mama?” Almost immediately I cannot detect her red curly hair anymore, I can only hear her cry my name, “Sonny!” My heart drops down to my feet the second I cannot hear her voice calling my name anymore. What do I do? Do I ask for help? How come when something finally goes right, something goes wrong? Mother and I just finished the Ellis Island inspection and become separated. With no clue where I stand, I have a mini panic attack. To make everything worse, it’s ice-cold out here.
“Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year” (11 Facts). Animal testing is a very flawed creation in today’s world. This innovation has caused much harm to many animals while also hurting the opinions of animal activists around the world. Animal testing is also known as the use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials (Biology Online). The use of animal testing has been around for throughout all of history, it also carries its disadvantages as they diminish the lives of many animals along with their unspoken opinion while also having some advantages, and lastly this notion is very expensive (Scutti).
I was hit hard during the ordeal and when I opened my eyes, all I saw were many dark heads around me and they seemed like they were shouting. I was so confused
