Elizabeth is often proclaimed to be one of the most prolific serial killers, believed to have murdered more than 600 hundred people during the 17th century. Nicknamed the Blood Countess, Bathory's life story is tainted by blood and haunted by torture. Being exposed to violence from a young age and having a husband encourage her actions, the blood countess was ruthless with her victims. She was known to be one of the first vampires due to her drinking and bathing in the blood of her victims, saying it would give her forever life. She was never executed, instead, she was isolated from the rest of the world in her castle and died alone. Elizabeth Bathory is shown in mixed feelings using bias, pathos, logos, and tone. The final article is ‘Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Bathory is thought to have murdered hundreds of young women in the early 17th century.’ The author, Sara Kettler, uses bias and logos to talk about the life, crimes, and isolation of the blood countess. Throughout the article, bias seems to be a common term the author uses. The article has a section dedicated to whether Bathory was innocent or guilty. It states, “Bathory was only punished because her victims were said to have included noblewomen — but would still make Bathory responsible for many ruined lives.” The author seems to be talking down Bathory's actions, which is reasonable since what Elizabeth did is unforgivable. This helps by giving more reason as to why Bathory deserved what happened to her and her isolation. The second term used in the article is logos. In the section discussing whether Bathory is innocent, there are witness accounts though the evidence is not reliable enough due to the witness overseeing the investigation. “Many of the witnesses who spoke against Bathory were beholden to Thurzó, who oversaw the entire investigation.” The author decides to use witness accounts to describe the trial of
