Elephantiasis is called that name for a specific reason. This disease makes you swell up in any of your extremities in your body. Elephantiasis is mostly found in third world countries because these people in these countries mostly don't have shoes so therefor they are getting this disease. The symptoms of this disease are swelling in all the extremities of the body. There are no symptoms given before what happens is just extreme swelling somewhere in your body. The animal behind this disease is the filarial worm. This worm is transmitted via mosquito so when the mosquito bites the human the worm is sent into the body which then the process of elephantiasis begins. These worms are sent in the body as I guess you could say babies and
The working diagnosis is that this patient is suffering from Angioedema as a result of Anaphylaxis and developing Urticaria. Angioedema is the swelling of deep layers of the skin due the accumulation of fluid, symptoms of Angioedema include swelling of the eyes, lips, hands and feet.
Balanitis is characterized by inflammation of the end of the penis, or the glans. Often, the foreskin is also inflamed. There are several causes which involve bacterial and candidiasis infections, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), diabetes, phimosis, poor hygiene, skin conditions or irritation. It can occur at any age but most commonly affects young boys under 4 years old and uncircumcised men. It is uncommon in men who have been circumcised.
Plasma membranes are the physical barrier of cells, which are selectively permeable to allow the passage of materials such as nutrients, gasses and waste products (Flinders University, 2015). The steroid cholesterol contained in the plasma membrane increases the membrane fluidity at higher temperatures (Blicher et al., 2009). Beta vulgaris contains a pigment called betalain, which leaches out of the tissue when there is an increase in membrane permeability, this causes the solution B. vulgaris is in to turn red (Flinders University, 2015). The aim of this investigation was to determine the effect of temperature on Beta vulgaris plasma membrane permeability.
infection not only hit the humans but animals were also able to contract it. Not many people
Similarly anti-fungal or anti-bacterial topical applications may be prescribed for treatment of fungal or bacterial infections respectively.
When you are a senior in high school, your first few months of school are spent taking standardized test and choosing what colleges you will apply to. The decision of selecting a college that you will spend four consecutive years at furthering your education, and getting ready for the real world, is a decision that takes a lot of thought. When we look into Universities we not only look at them at an academic standpoint, but we also look at what a school has to offer that will make us feel as if we belong there, and that it is somewhere we can call home. A lot of students choose to attend Southern Universities because of all the wonderful things they have to offer, and because of the family orientated vibe that they give off.
Charles R. Swindoll once said, “Prejudice is a learned trait. You're not born prejudiced; you're taught it.” In both these stories the main characters learn about discrimination in their communities. They also learn how certain parents teach their kids to be prejudice of people who aren’t necessarily the same as them. To Kill Mockingbird is a book written by Harper Lee set in rural Alabama in the 1930’s.
The disease was caused by rats and rat fleas but, also from human to human by breathing the same air. Scientists know that the bacillus travels from person to person, through
Transmission of the parasite can occur in several different ways. Direct transmission can occur by handling infected animal or human feces. One quarter of reported direct transmission infections occurred by direct contact with feces, while the rest were reported to have happened by person to person contact (Donnelly & Stentiford, 1997).
The official title of the world’s largest land dwelling animal belongs to the elephant, more specifically, the African elephant. Elephants also are some of the most deadly animals, which therefore increase the danger of human and elephant interactions. The more human interactions occur, the more deaths result, whether it is the elephant or the human who dies. These animals, surprisingly, are socially apt; their trunk is used for more than just eating and drinking- it is used for socializing. They are complex animals who live in large familial herds-females stay with their family throughout their entire lives while males only stay for approximately fifteen years (Elephant Protection, 1). Elephants possess a great memory and only forget what they learn occasionally and rarely, giving way to the “an elephant never forgets” saying (Maloiy, 178c). Despite how many people use the beloved saying, elephants may not be around much longer due to the shortened life span and increased mortality rates. Due to their incisor teeth, tusks, being extremely expensive and profitable, they are being murdered for the wealth they carry. This, coupled with the life span shortening because of malicious treatments and brutal practices reduces the life span of the African elephant from 56 to 16 years and the Asian elephant from 42 to 19 years (Elephant Protection, 1). According to what the statistics show, elephants may be following their ancestors to their death. Of the group of mammals called
How the disease was transmitted was further looked on by Nelson (1995). According to the said author, the disease was transmitted primarily by fleas and rats. The stomachs of the fleas were infected with bacteria known Y. Pestis. Nelson held that “the bacteria would block the "throat" of infected fleas so that no blood could reach their stomachs, and they grew ravenous since they were starving to death” (1995, par. 14). The bacteria would then attempt to suck up blood from their victims, only to disgorge it back into their preys' bloodstreams (Nelson, 1995). Now, however, the victims' blood was mixed with Y. Pestis. Fleas infected rats in this fashion, and the rats spread the disease to other rats and fleas before dying (Nelson, 1995). Without rodent hosts, the fleas then migrated to the bodies of humans and infected them in the same fashion as they had the rats .
states that all wars are sinful, but if it is justified it is not a sin; however, I feel that just because one has authority over others, this shouldn't
Thesis: (Nature is the driving force of the world, with a part of this the animal kingdom; in particular; the elephant a majestic gentle giant with intellect, emotions, and so many amazing things that people should know.)( Elephants are beautiful, intelligent, and important animals that have so many fun things to learn about.)
There is no vaccine or cure for lymphatic filariasis. Diethylcarbamazine (DEC), Albendazole and Ivermectine are drugs used for people seeking prevention or already suffer from Lymphatic Filariasis. The treatment help reduce microfilariae in human. People diagnosed with the disease require taking DEC for a long period of time. The medication can kill adult worms slowly. People at risk of getting the disease take the medication annually such as Albendazole 400 mg combined with Ivermectin 200 mcg for every kg of body weight, or take Diethylcarbamazine citrate ( DEC) 6mg/ kg. Dosage is taken three times a day for three weeks annually for five years. This is a method of prevention for non-infected individuals. For people that already have signs
Massive open online courses (MOOC) were introduced in 2008 by Dave Cormier. The original aim of MOOCs was to open up education and offer free access to University education for as many students as possible. They are generating a considerable attention and high interest from higher education institutions. They are viewed as an extension to current online approaches in terms of access (Hoxby, C 2014). The focus of MOOCs is to provide free, cutting edge education that reduces the cost of University education. Universities are beginning to provide online courses by establishing open learning forums such as edX. New businesses have emerged as a result of this opportunity for example organizations such as Coursera and Udacity have collaborated with elite universities to provide online courses for free or charging a small fee for certification. A new company in UK has been formed to provide free, open online courses from leading Universities in UK for learners around the world( Albert, S & Thomas, C 2000).
