Eight Week Course Analysis

The dilemma between eight week versus sixteen week courses is one I struggled with in choosing my courses for Fall as well as Spring. I did not know if it would be better to take two eight week courses in different sessions or two sixteen week courses together. I knew the eight week format would be condensed and move faster but it would allow me the option to focus on one course at a time. I also considered that the sixteen week courses may be more manageable if the work was more spread out. For Fall, I ended up taking only one course as I needed to get back in the routine of doing schoolwork and wasn't sure how it would balance in with my other obligations. When it came time to register for Spring, I knew I wanted to take two courses at a time, but I wasn't sure which combination would be best. I considered the pacing of this course and felt that I would not have absorbed as much of the material if I had taken the course in an eight week format. I feel as if I have a better overall understanding of human relations and that I have already become a better advisor from the insights I have gained. This course has allowed me to do a lot of self reflection, particularly with the final project. I definitely feel that I have gained or strengthened competencies through the materials in this course. I do believe that my relationships have been and will continue to be strengthened, as long as I continue to develop competencies. I think the biggest surprise in this course was how much I connected with some of the assigned materials. I expected this course to be an overview of Human Relations, with the goal of improving baseline knowledge for the remainder of the program.
