Secondly, Childrens are easier to be controlled than an adult. The reason why is because when you tell a child that you will give them something in return of a favor the child will agree to do it , but for an adult it is harder to convince them. Many groups tend to have more child soldiers because of this reason. An example of this would be Al Shabaab. When children join organizations like these there are several effects. Many children can get mental illnesses because when they are in war their brains captures the horrible moments, a type of illness that may occur is Anxiety Disorder. Another issue that faces many child soldiers is the requirements that they have to accomplish. For example, their commander might tell them that they have to
Whenever people go to the movies or read a book, they long for an interesting story to be entertained by. Whether it is action filled or suspenseful, they want a stimulating plot that makes them feel good. In 1952, Carl Foreman wrote the screenplay for a movie called High Noon; a classic tale of when the hunter becomes the hunted. Then in 1924, Richard Connell wrote another classic, called "The Most Dangerous Game". Although both stories demonstrate similar examples of the setting and conflict, the main characters react very differently to the unusual situations they find themselves stuck in.
First off, child soldiers are held against their will to do dangerous tasks that they have no say in. In an article interviewing Ishmael Beah, a former child soldier, he states, "Somebody being shot in front of you, or you yourself shooting somebody became just like drinking a glass of water. Children who refused to fight, kill or showed any weakness were ruthlessly dealt with.”
Recently, two million children have died over the past ten years due to becoming a child soldier. A huge deplorable development that has extended recently is the increase of child soldiers. Children are constantly being used as soldiers for various reasons. In some countries, there are more child soldiers than they are adults because children are more compliant. Children have been exploited as soldiers because they are being recruited to do a violent action, it is difficult for them to, later on, assimilate back to their lives, and child soldiers are regularly used in developing countries.
Are you aware that right now, at this very moment, there is a group of young boys ages 8-13 who are clenching a gun being ordered to kill against their will? It’s understood that others opinions about the dangers of child soldiers being free are only because they don’t want to risk anything but, isn’t life all about taking risks? You risk your life leaving the house, and breathing. Also, countries should not prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime. There also should not be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Here are three reasons why they should not be prosecuted or held responsible. Also that there should not be an age limit. One. Children are afraid, young, and clueless. Two. Children are 99.99% of the time drugged, forced, and brainwashed. “Children are often brainwashed and drugged before they are forced to fight. Their vulnerability can allow warlords to make them into cold-blooded killers” (O'Neill 1 ). Three. Children are independent, lonesome, and they want/need a family. One that gives them love.
Many children are forced to fight. rebel armies find that children are easier to recruit due to the fact they can be manipulated easily and may be too young to understand what they are doing. Also children are said to be better soldiers because of their size so that makes them harder to see and also that children are easier to make comply. Some veteran fighters say that children are good fighters because if
A black African-American that was one of the many few who was born free in Wilmington, North Carolina went by the name of David Walker. Walker’s father whom died before his birth was a slave but his mother was a free woman. In the state’s laws Walker inherited his mother’s liberated status although, being free did not keep him from witnessing slavery. Walker traveled throughout his time in his younger days in the South, noticing the injustices of the slave system that the whites had going on. Even though Walker was a free slave he still seen and knew what slavery and racism was. Charleston, South Carolina is where he settled and eventually found a church home that goes by the name of African Methodist Episcopal church. A large population of free African Americans lived there at the time. In the year of 1822, a revolutionary plot was uncovered that resulted in severe cruelty of black churches which made things very difficult for the blacks during those times. Walker up and moved to Boston in the year of 1825 where he married a fugitive slave that went by the name Emily. He established a profitable secondhand clothing business and very active in helping the poor and needy even including the runaway slaves. During that time he joined a political organized black community group. Walker became involved with the nation 's first African American newspaper, that went by the name Freedom 's Journal out of New York City, in which Walker contributed some. He spent a lot of time
Child soldiers have become very common in places of constant war or combat. With the need for more soldiers as others die off, the juvenile population in places such as West Africa and the Middle East is plentiful and available. Military recruiters in these regions specifically look into children because of their “immaturity and basic curiosity which makes them susceptible” and easily influenced (Somasundaram 1269). Commonly, child soldiers don’t have a choice if they want to be recruited or not because they are usually trapped (by socioeconomics or other factors) and forced to participate. In war times, the country of recruitment is usually in chaos to begin, and child removal from families is effortless for recruiters. Once brought into the training camps where propaganda is well presented, children immediately feel scared, a result of the detachment from their families. Recruiters often feed detrimental information to the children, which typically includes certainty of family deaths and subsequent threats of the death of loved ones which “create a sense of fear, frustration, hopelessness, and general discontent” (Somasundaram 1269). The overload of emotions and inexperience causes children to immediately look to re-fulfill the authority figure in their lives (which was once their family) in order to regain a sense of comfort; similarly to the
The problem of interest that I chose to discuss is lateral violence (LV) in nursing. LV is a deliberate and harmful behavior demonstrated in the workplace by one employee to another, it is a significant problem in the nursing profession (Christie, 2014). LV is the same thing as bullying someone. Studies estimate that 44% to 85% of nurses are victims of LV; up to 93% of nurses report witnessing LV in the workplace (Christie, 2014). LV can affect the victim’s physical and mental health, it can affect patient care and safety, and can be detrimental to the work environment. LV is often perpetrated by nurse managers and some nurses are afraid to report the LV for fear of retaliation or losing their jobs (Christie, 2014).
From witnessing murders of their own family, to being kidnapped. It wasn’t the children’s choice to be a soldier (most of the time). If you have ever seen the movie, Mulan. You might remember when Mulan’s father was drafted into the army. He had no decision of choosing to serve or not to serve. Even though he could barely walk. That’s the reverse for a child soldiers, they didn’t get to live a long life. In fact, they haven’t had a childhood besides killing people. The children’s families are sometimes dead or participating in these violent acts. Imagine having your family killed and the rest taken away. It would be
The mental and emotional trauma that child soldiers go through generally has a negative effect on their wellbeing. Child soldiers see and experience things that no human should experience, let alone children. Child soldiers are subjected to very poor treatment. They are often forced to commit and take part in terrible crimes that go against their morality but they fear the punishment too much to stand up for what is right. Child soldiers are regularly beaten and abused for the smallest mistakes and errors. I believe that this inhibits the growth of a child as severely punishing a child for minor errors makes the child fearful of making mistakes. This makes the child very obedient. This is a positive to some extent. however, I believe that when children follow orders without thinking it is a negative as it is not a ‘growth mind-set’ and inhibits creativity and problem solving skills. How can these children become functioning members of society when all they have ever done is follow orders? I think that children need to be able to learn from their mistakes and grow and mature as people. They should not live in fear of punishment. I think we need to raise people that can think for themselves and form their own ideas and conclusions. We shouldn't make children robots that follow order.
In many countries, poverty and hunger drive and force parents to give up and sell their children into service. Even more children very often considered, perfect weapon for battle and war. They are very easily manipulated, intensely loyal, very fearless, and, most important, in endless supply.
Firstly, it is the opinion of most persons that children who are used as child soldiers are not conscientiously answerable for their behaviour. Most times these children have no contribution on if they become a child soldier or not and once they do become a soldier they are eventually easily influenced through the constant use of drugs and alcohol. The use of these narcotics make the children become submissive thereby allowing them to commit atrocities which they would not have done before. Additionally, research would show that the majority of children who become soldiers do so without
Children in armed conflicts is when a child under the age of 18 has been recruited into an armed group by force where they are then be used as spies, fighters, messengers, cooks, and many more things. More than 100,000 kids have been forced into joining these armed groups. Consequently, minors working in these armed groups may come from a substandard life when they are recruited. They are then pressured into committing acts of violence. They could have also been beaten up and abused, as well as being forced into taking drugs and other harmful substances. Some kids join armed forces
Every day, thousands of children around the world wake up in the morning, grab their shoes and backpacks and head to school. Thousands of other children pick up their AK-47s and head to battle. The issue of child soldiers is as complex as it is atrocious, and its heinous nature has prompted the international community to pour vast amounts of time and resources into finding a solution. Despite humanitarian and government organizations’ best efforts, the numbers have remained relatively static over the decades, with over 300,000 underage combatants worldwide (Vautravers 96). Many scholars have declared the U.N.’s current policy as a failure and offered up proposals of their own, ranging from placement of sanctions to international
Starting off with the term “child soldiers”, it already seems as if this a bad thing for children. To give a brief explanation about child soldiers they are mainly children both boys and girls who under the age of 18 and are used for any military purpose. Child soldiers went in war and are told to fight as well as kill. Some countries may not have many people to put forth and army so they would need to have children involved. There are also some children out there who volunteer to join on their own because there are times when they separated from their family. “Child soldiers are right in the middle of a contradiction inherent in the modern construction of youth: innocents versus perpetrators. They are simultaneously feared and cast as innocents
