In a rare example of kindness from John Allen towards Edgar,He signed Edgar’s application to West Point, he did not stay very long though,due to John not sending him any money. Its commonly believed that Edgar broke the rules and ignored his jobs so he would be dismissed from West Point. After he was dismissed from the army ,Edgar decided to begin his writing career,traveling to New York in order to have some of the poetry that he had written published.
