I consider college football as a job not just a sport. The players would not just enjoy the sport but adjust to college, socially and economically. Keolanui says, “A good portion of these players are trying to adjust as well and feel inferiority in more ways we care to realize. The fame and prestige that comes from being a big college football star goes a long way towards helping many of these players overcome any social economical disparity.” Going into a new school is a new place of environment for the players and getting paid would only influence the players to do better on the field but in classes as well. As many people know college is genuinely expensive and the action of getting paid would help relieve worries with the few expenses college
If college athletes get paid it would drive them to finish and get their degree.
“College football and basketball players are promised an education in exchange for playing on the team” (Zimbalist). Andrew Zimbalist, professor of economics at Smith College, is co-author of "The Sabermetric Revolution: Assessing the Growth of Analytics in Baseball”. Andrew states this fact to emphasize the situation that some argue that college players shouldn’t be getting paid. Typically, the people who feel this way are either coaches, players or the parents of the players. If the college players were to get compensated this would be fair for various reasons. School is in place for you to get an education; playing a sport is considered as an extracurricular activity. In a similar sense college is for expanding your education possible future
Student’s grade would drop if they paid college athletes because all they would worry about was the sport so they could go to the next level and get paid. The athlete would just worry about the sport and nothing else, for they would stop interacting with people and just about the sport. The athlete in college wouldn’t fill their degree because they would always be doing sports and trying to get better at that sport. The college would have to lower the salary of the teachers just to pay for the athlete even tho the education is more import than the sport. Not everyone can make it to the next level, you have to be good at the sport you are in to make it to the next level. Also, some people would feel back because they didn’t make it to the next level to get paid. If they were paid they would try and say at that level because when you get to the level after college called the NFL only the best of the best players make it. In order to play sports in college, you have to have good grades you could be good at sports but not so good at school, so you wouldn’t be able to play sports. Only 7% of high athletes make it to college sports and out of that 7%, only 2% make it to Division
There has been considerable controversy over the past years on whether or not National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes should be paid or not. Fans, players, and the board of the NCAA all have their separate beliefs on why or why not the athletes should be paid. These young athletes work their hardest on the fields and attract millions of fans and think money fans pay to watch them perform, can go to them. The University of Alabama made approximately $124 Million dollars in operating revenue in 2008. Based upon those statistics, you can see that athletes have a reasonable argument of why they should be paid a salary when the school is able to afford to do so. While one side believes they should be paid, another side believes they shouldn’t be paid because instead of receiving pay, that possible salary is substituted with a scholarship and education.
He made that much money and did not get a single dollar for his hard work and dedication to the college. Rebecca Zissou, from, "Fair play: should college athletes get paid?", writes, “Marcus Mariota wows fans as the quarterback of the University of Oregon Ducks. The 20-year-old sophomore from Hawaii helps the school earn millions of dollars through ticket sales, advertising, and TV deals. But like all college athletes, Mariota doesn't earn a penny.” He was that young making millions for the college and they did not make a penny. That's a amazing thing that someone who brings on all the money doesn't get a little piece of the money that he worked hard to earn for the school. Another quarterback in college before Macus who was in the same situation was Tim Tebow/
This is what I believe makes the game so great and if we start paying college football players to play for monetary gain than takes away from the foundation of the game. Millions of dollars are spent by the average American college students on receiving a quality education in hopes of one day obtaining a good job. However, a lucky few are eligible to receive half or even full rides. Now imagine someone paying
Imagine putting all of your time and energy into your work and being able to see it pay off. Great, right? However, at the end of the day, you are forbidden by law to receive payment for all of your drudgery. This is exactly how NCAA football players feel every day. The NCAA stands for the National Collegiate Athletic Association. This non-profit organization was founded by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. It is responsible for forming every law that applies to all college athletic sports, in order to protect the student athletes participating. One of these regulations forbids the payment of players. Paying NCAA football players would give them something to fall back on, be fair, help grow earnings for universities, and widen the athletic competition.
Football is a challenging sport that not many individuals are blessed with the skills in order to play. As stated in the article “ Top 10 Reasons College Football Players Should Get Paid “ Players who stay in college for four years might sacrifice a year or two of earnings In order to stay in school long enough to earn a degree” , you must be dedicated to your grades and credits you need to succeed. There are by far 100 reasons why college football athlete should get paid. They invest about 50-60 hours a week and lower to 40-50 hours a week once the season and classes begin along with 12 -15 hours of weight training and 15- 20 hours a week getting ready for the spring season. They invest their blood, sweat, and tears just to do what they love and put their all into it in order to have a chance to get drafted to a better school and pursue their dreams. There are thousands of foundations that are invested in the colleges make money off of the players but the individuals that are actually doing most of the work, the real hard work, don't and that's unfair and yes we all know sports are not meant to be fair but when it comes to your career you have to do what you have to do. Let's talk more about the other factors that claim why college football athletes should get paid. majority of the coaches make $53.4 million in salaries and 0% goes the athletes.
Who would be responsible for paying the students in this case? And what system will be used; do athletes with better performance get more pay than other members of the team? These things and a lot more only would result to many complexities, and thus, paying college athletes might indeed just deviate the students from what they went to their respective institutions in the first place, that is, to get a degree, not to gain a salary.” (http://www.youniversitytv.com/college-tips/pros-cons-paying-college-athletes/) There has been numerous college athletes that said they want to paid.
College football is more fast paced, and more interesting to watch thann over paid football players making millions to play a quarter of the year. College players are more self disciplined and a good number of athletes end up doing more than just playing football. They are executives, coaches, and teachers. College football players should not get paid to play football because of the real purpose of college and it is to obtain a college degree. The coaches have already put in their time and that is why they make the big bucks.
College Football players do not need money so that they can go to college for pay. They will have to work hard for the free education they are getting or not waist their times on football if they don’t have a scholarship
College sports are a phenomenon that keeps viewers coming back for more. Stated in an article on Money Nation the NCAA makes an estimated $1 billion per year and this number is still growing. What really is insane is that all that money is made off of college athletes, who don’t get a penny from that total number. The debate on whether or not college athletes should be paid has been around for decades and probably will still be here for years to come. Paying college athletes would make the teams unfair, change how hard players will work to get better, affect the amateurism of college sports, and lastly influence the athlete's willingness to participate in college sports.
yes, I think collage should get paid, because they work to hard to make it in the NFL & they still have player who is dying to be in the NFL. I wish i could be in the NFL I'm keep working hard so i can be better. I love playing football, but I think collage should get paid they play hard work hard i think collage is the next stage of life. To move on to be better players and students that's what good players and students looking for. In the summer I'm be working out for football, I'm going to football camp to work on my skill. Football is everything to me I would love to go to collage and play ball. I need someone by my side to help me go to the next level.
This could solve the problem with some players not having enough money to live. According to College Student Journal, 54% of college students said that student athletes should be paid for their services, but if they were to get paid, colleges might have to increase tuition and fees in order to get enough money to pay the athletes (Schneider, 2001). Some people say that paying college athletes will reduce the amount of illegal payments to the athletes. That is not necessarily true, because illegal payments still could occur to ensure that an athlete will complete a task. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) makes around $100 million per year (Edelman, 2013, P.61). Some people might say that it is wrong for the NCAA to not give any money to the athletes that make most of the money for them, but it is against the rules to pay them. If colleges were to pay students, the college trying to get a student to attend their school in order to play football would have to offer more money than several different colleges, in order to intrigue the student into going to that college (Kisska-Schulze, 2014, P.32-34). There is a difference between a professional sport and a college sport. “The difference between a purely commercial model (professional sport) and the educational model is the purpose for generating revenue: in a commercial entity, the purpose is to make a profit,
If college students are spending their time playing these sports and not working, they should be getting paid for it. Not only are these students forfeiting their time to study, talk to friends, and even relax after classes, but they are missing an opportunity to have jobs. “Players’ relationships to the school they play for should be spelled out in an individualized pay-for-service contract rather than an NCAA-standardized letter of intent that impinges on basic freedoms” (Marx, 475). The NCAA requires that students are enrolled full time and play football to gain the scholarship offered. There is an argument by Hartenstine on this subject that “Some 15 percent played professional football as a first career, but 15 percent were corporate executives, 13
