This paper reflects on three books that help explore the Northern and Southern regions of the United States of America during the Civil War. It will also include political, social and economical development for each region. This will show how people during this time had to deal with hardships and dealing with the war. It will also show how it affects them on their day to day basis because of the war and having to deal with the social, political, and economical developments in their region and how each one is different than the other because of the different parts they are in. Each region will be different because of where they are located. The weather and nature of each region has to be put into consideration when looking at these three (political, social and economical development) because they all are affected differently from where they are located. It included political, social and economical developments. The South was trying to preserve slavery and an agricultural way of life, while the North was dedicated to a more modern way of life and to ending slavery. This caused a division between the North and South because they could not agree on what decision to make. The South did not want to end slavery and the North did because they wanted to move forward, while the South did not like change. They liked how things were and this caused the differences they had between each other, but they also had similarities. They had different political views and views on slavery. They had similar, but different
What are the differences between the Northern and Southern regions during the Civil War? The North and the South had many differences in their regions and in their strategies to help them win the war. The things that stood out the most were the geography, economy, and transportation, and advantages.
The friction generated from this separation was ultimately the grand factor in the beginning of the Civil War. Before this enormous conflict began, the two regions had been experiencing a dramatic shift in culture and demographics. This pre-Civil War period was dubbed the “Antebellum Era”, which described America “before the (Civil) War”. The Antebellum Era made the mold for what each opposing side wanted to represent, and the causes for which they would eventually go to war over. A notable difference between the Antebellum North and South was the education gap.
Northern and Southern states both had different ideas about slavery; the North wanted to ban it whereas the South wanted to keep slavery in all states. This disagreement led to many different disagreements that had to resolved with multiple
To this point, you can probably see that there is a clear split between what the North thinks and what the South thinks. Is it just me or our you thinking, “In this corner, we have the Northerners, and in this corner we have the slave working South!”. As you probably already know, the North supported freedom and absolutely despised the south who supported slavery. One of the acts that really showed this, was the attack on Harpers Ferry. The north was so disgusted with the south that they published newspapers against slavery. Some of these newspapers included “Uncle Tom’s Cabin”by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Also, “The Liberator”was published by William Lloyd Garrison.
There were several issues that contributed to the split between the northern and southern states. Among these were the deep social, economic and political differences. The split could be traced as far back as the early 1800’s, just as the industrial revolution was beginning. It’s effects on the north and the south caused the economic split. As the north was becoming more industrialized; the south began to rely heavily on slave labor. This was one of the main reasons, as the southern view on slavery differed greatly from the North. These views were based on drastically different interpretations of the constitution.
The following pages are an essay on the cause of the American Civil War (1861-1865) and the effects that the war had upon the soldiers, women and African Americans of the North and the South. In this essay I will write about the following topics and present a view of how the war was witnessed by these different groups of people. In regards to the soldiers of the North and the South, I will answer the following questions: What was the enthusiasm of the soldiers from the North and the South before the war? What was their perspective after the fighting had started? How did the soldiers of the invading armies treat the civil
The Civil War's outcome could have gone either way, on one hand you have the North, which had the industrial advantage, and the South on the other who had a home field advantage and better generals too. The war pitted brother against brother and father against son, and lost many wives their sons and or husbands. The victory of the North was due to many economical factors that hindered, and ultimately defeated the South.
Political tension between the North and the South started early when there was disagreement over Henry Clay’s American System. The American System imposed tariffs to support northern manufacturing, federally funded roads and canals, and supported the National Bank. Northerners were in support of the American System but the South wasn’t on board with the plan. This protective tariff was a tax on imports, and since the South was receiving most of the imported goods, they got the brunt of the tariff. The South believed it was unfair that it was putting money into the North’s industrial economy when the South was barely making enough revenue to support itself. While the South provided the Northern industries with most of the raw materials they needed, the price the North paid for these things were nothing compared to what the South had to pay for the manufactured goods the North produced. The opposition to the American System was so strong that South Carolina declared the tariffs void and threatened to leave the Union. But Andrew Jackson worked with South Carolina and the Union remained whole. This was the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The two regions clashed politically too. While the North became generally
This change hurt the economy by a lot but Jefferson needed to do it. Americans wanted to go to war after this but this helped that from happening. They didn’t come into contact with any others at war either so they had no way of fighting back. Even though this act made the American’s mad, Jefferson knew it was the best thing for the country.
The northern and southern parts of the Unites States of America were politically, economically and culturally very different from one another. The people of the northern and southern colonies came to the new world for very different reasons and as time went on their differences grew. The differences between them originally divided their opinions on the civil war and who the people gave loyalty.
The North and South were both similar and different in many ways during the 1850’s. There were significant economic, social, and demographic differences that separated these two regions of the United States before the American Revolution. Below, I will compare and contrast these differences between the two.
One of the main conflicts between the sections was slavery! The northerners really didn’t care about slavery, but as time went on it became the central issue and problem. Another conflict was state rights. The south had feared that the north would pass laws that would hurt its lifestyle. Some examples are laws that restrict or abolish slavery and tariffs. The south
While many events played a role in causing the civil war it was inevitable considering the political and economic differences between the North and the South. Both section had monopolized an area of the economy but it was not equal. While the south had dominance over the textiles the North had the ability to create large quantities of diverse goods. Politically the two sections couldn't have been more divided. While the two were separate they had to share an economy and a country creating many problems.
Before the fighting and bloodshed of the Civil War, the North and South were like two different countries with different views, cultures, economies, and ways of life. Probably the most obvious difference between the territories was the issues on slavery. The south was an agricultural society which needed slaves to tend to all the crops, particularly cotton crops used to make clothes. They were also used in mining and railroad construction. Up North, the people came to believe that slaves were people and should be freed. Also, the Northern economies were better due to the Industrial society. Factories, steamships, and machines easily manufactured and shipped the northern goods. The south, however, did not have much of a manufacturing business which lead the people to be more dependent on the work of the slaves. Government views also differed from each side. In the north, the people held more democratic views and elections were necessary to abolish any controversy. The south was hierarchical, the leaders were to have authority with no questions from anyone else. Eventually, the views of both the South and the North clashed, and lead America to the country's bloodiest
The Civil War was a devastating time for the United States of America. During this time the United States was divided. The Civil War was a four year long battle. It is known as one of the bloodiest battles ever fought. Consequently it was fought between people of the same country. We were divided between the North and the South. The cause of the Civil War was slavery. The North was against it and wanted slavery abolished. On the other hand the South did not want to part with slavery. Both the North and the South were very divided. Part of the divide was different lifestyles, structures of society, traditions, and political views. The term used to describe the divide between the North and South is sectionalism. This difference in opinions sparked hatred between the North and the South.
