Throughout the semester I have really enjoyed this class and I have learned a lot. The Ted talk that we watched that was all about the female superheroes is something that I thought was very interesting and at the same time very disturbing. I think that female superheroes should be sold along with male superheroes. I think that it's an outrageous thing and something that I did not know until watching this Ted Talk. I think that both men and women superheros should be sold together. Why hasn't this issue been brought up before? Little girls or boys going to pick out their favorite female superhero just like they are able to pick out their male favorite male superhero. I think it's something that is a bigger problem that people are not paying …show more content…
I personally have never had an eating disorder but i have had people very close to me have eating disorders and body image issues and i know how hard it is. In the article the “body politic” I thought there was something very interesting towards the end and that was “Eating disorders affect us all on both a personal and political level.”That is something that I had not thought much about. I always knew the eating disorders affect people on a personal level but i think she means that they consume and affect our entire lives if you have an eating disorder. I think that eating disorders are still a big problem today and the whole idea of body image. A few summers ago I decided that I wanted to start a healthier lifestyle so i changed my eating habits and started working out more and it made me a lot happier and a lot thinner than i was before. This is not to say that I did not feel comfortable in my own body i just wanted a healthier lifestyle. I wish i was able to tell people with eating disorders that all it takes is a healthy lifestyle to lose weight or be …show more content…
I had no idea about the whole idea of plastic surgeries. I especially had no idea how big it was in lebanon. I think that the whole concept of skin bleaching is crazy? I don't understand why people do it. I think that it's something that damages the skin. Another thinkt hat i found very interesting in this movie was how much people want plastic surgery to look better. The amount of money and recovery time that plastic surgery requires is crazy. I knew that plastic surgery was big in the U.S. but i had no idea about the rest of the world. There is a show called Botched and it's all about body image and plastic surgery and it's something that i find very fresh ginting. Lastly the thing that i found very shocking was the whole idea of advertising the men appealing to women and the women appealing to men. I did not realize how much the ad industry shapes who we are how we view others and most importantly how we view ourself. You would never think that the ad agency had such a major impact on society or did lots of people already know that? I just thought it was something that never occurred to me. In the end, i thought this movie was very interesting and eye opening i learned and discovered lots of things that i did not
Forty-three published abstracts were retrieved from PubMed database and three were retrieved from CINAHL database, for a total of 46 articles for potential inclusion in the review. Three duplicates were then removed, yielding 43 articles for potential inclusion. Two articles were excluded because they are commentaries. Three articles were excluded because they are reviews. One article was excluded because it is a case study. 14 articles were excluded because they do not include a mindful eating intervention. Two articles were excluded because they do not focus on weight or weight-related co-morbidities. One article was excluded because it focuses on anorexia nervosa or bulimia. One article was
Hello everyone. My name is Ruth and I want to talk to you guys about eating disorders. An eating disorder is essentially an illness that disrupts a person’s every day diet which can cause a person to pretty much stop eating or over eat, depending on the illness. These illnesses are more apparent in the teenage years and in to young adulthood (Pinel, 2011), which makes sense because this is when we start becoming more aware of our bodies as well as other people’s bodies. We might want to look like the model we just saw on TV and will do anything to get that body, right? But an eating disorder is not the way to go; we will get in to the effects of
Real beauty is found in a person's heart, not in their appearance, but the media rarely portrays this though. Most magazines and television shows feature only excessively thin people. Unfortunately, this causes teenagers whose bodies don't match those same proportions to look at their selves with hatred. Every lump and bulge becomes despised, and soon, they have a full-blown eating disorder.

I thought the chapter in the textbook about eating disorders was very interesting. This is a very real and current issue in our country today. And as I learned in the reading, it affects many countries throughout the world, not just the United States. According to the PsychWatch section on page 281, “Eating Disorders Across the World”, non-Western countries are starting to be exposed to more Western and United States television and magazine advertisements, and this is resulting in more cases of eating disorders in these countries. Both men and women are affected by anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. The statistics show that more women than men have these eating disorders. But it is hard to say if this is true, or if just more women seek help.

Eating disorders are defined as mental disorders that are characterized by abnormal eating habits that have a negative effect on a person’s mental or physical health. These disorders can be due to psychological or genetic factors, however the most common cause is exterior influences causing feelings of inferiority which sparks an obsessive need. Many of these disorders, such as stress eating, night eating, and binge eating, are not recognized as medically treatable conditions outside of the medical field. The most well-known and understood eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia, both of which can lead to death if not caught and treated in time.
“The eating disorder is a very jealous and abusive partner. It requires a lot of devotion in the extent that you have to devote yourself to tending to the anorexia. There 's not a lot of time left over for adult life,” was stated by Dr. Doug Bunnell, a specialist in eating disorders. Eating disorders effect a variety of people. Age, race, and gender aren’t role playing keys in eating disorders. Not everyone gets an eating disorder, but if they do then, it will more than likely destroy their lives. The person with the eating disorder is affected and so are their families, and friends. Even though there are hundreds of programs to help with eating disorders, thousands of people still suffer from them.

Eating disorders can be very harmful or even deadly.
Eating disorders have become and extreme issue among women. However, the ignorance to this subjects’ prevalence is common and it is essential that this is compressed immediately. The impact eating disorders currently holds on society is monumental and is defining the current image of beauty. Definitions of beauty have fluctuated extremely throughout time and the unhealthy processes women have put themselves through in order to conform to societies current definition of beauty has remained consistent. The video represents the actual situation related to the eating disorder among young women and men. In most cases, dancers are at risk to develop such disorder. For instance, the successful ballerina must be abnormally thin. It is a dangerous obsession among many dancers. The ideal weight for ballerina must be approximately fifty percents below in the ratio of weight and height. Dancers will do practically anything in order to achieve the needed success and get more power in their career. Ballerina Heidi Guenther was the real example of negative effect of the eating disorder and died young at the age of twenty-two. Unfortunately, her heart gave out, because of the tragic try to succeed at the expense of her life. Eating disorder is common in the world of
Western society tells girls they should be slim and petite whereas boys are supposed to be muscular and fit. While there are those who luckily could not care less about societal expectations, there are those who feel dangerous amounts of pressure to conform and fit to these external standards. In order to be slim or fit, many take drastic measures such as starving themselves or purging which can lead to the development of eating disorders. Many wonder, however, who is more likely to form eating disorders: males or females. While it is proven that unfortunately high numbers of females form eating disorders, some question the statistics of males with eating disorders and wonder if the comparative statistics are not nearly as skewed as thought
Thirty million eating disorders exist in the United States (Get The, 2013). Thirty million people manipulate their caloric intake and exacerbate their workout regimens. However, this number fails to include the number of people who simply are at fault with their bodies. It does not encompass the number of women who hate their wide hips and the way their thighs gently brush as they climb through life. The statistic disregards the number of women who look in a mirror and are nauseated by what stares back at them. It forgets the number of women who simply do not honor their body as the temple that it is. The twenty-first century brought sweeping waves of technology and the construction of social media, but it brought edited photos, unrealistic
