Goal Statement I enrolled in the doctoral program with the view to enhancing my knowledge and to acquire academic competences in the field of Early Childhood Education. After three years of coursework in the doctoral program I have gained a lot of experience in observing and being part of an enriched learning environment and understanding multiple methods of doing research. From a background of qualitative research I have come to experience and understand the value and efficiency in doing quantitative research either. In addition, I could find a chance to be part of a research team, collect data, analyze data and present the findings at the 2015 annual American Educational Research Association (AERA) with my professors and colleagues. In this

First, taking ED580 and spending time with the children has made it clear to me that early childhood (bilingual) education is what I’d love to pursue as a future career. Actually, I have long been interested in early childhood education and was intended to choose that as my major for graduate school; however, my parents urged me to choose a “broader” major such as TESOL so that I can have more career choices after graduation. Although I was not willing to, I finally compromised not to my parents, but to the reality. In China, people have the deeply-rooted misunderstanding that preschool teachers are just babysitters; as a result, the requirement of educational level for preschool teachers is rather low, namely vocational high school. It may sound crazy if someone with a mater degree wants to be a preschool teacher. Thus, preschool teachers together with early childhood education are largely undervalued in China. I always know that it is silly to undermine the importance of early childhood education, but I do not have powerful evidence to back me up to change people’s thought. Now, I think I can confidently explain to others that because human development is accumulative and progressive, early inventions on the children’s dysfunctions may have the power to change their life trajectories and their fates. Keeping in mind how powerful early childhood education is and how influential preschool educators can be, I become clearer about on what I’d love to devote my time and effort
All children are worthy of a safe learning environment in which to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. As an early childhood special education teacher my objective is to provide a universal design to teaching so all children can enter my classroom and learn. I want to be a part of a positive shift in the field of Early Childhood Special Education and replace the traditional methods and techniques once applied to teaching young children with a more progressive approach to instruction. The emphasis will be on gaining knowledge through problem solving by means of hands on activities and collaborative learning. Although these techniques are not new-found to early childhood pedagogy, implementing
Aotearoa is a country that is bi-cultural yet multi-cultural. In the early childhood education sector there is a growing focus on diversity and achieving equality. This essay will have an emphasis on the diversity of ability, linking to the sociological concepts of ideology, mainstream and identity within a kindergarten setting. A discussion on inclusive practice will be apparent along with the roles and responsibilities of the educators within a kindergarten setting and the challenges and issues this service may face when implementing inclusive practice.
As a child I struggled significantly with literacy. Words, letters and sounds made no sense to me and I would marvel over pages filled with lines and squiggles wondering how everyone else saw something I couldn’t see. Words felt like Magic Eye Illusions; if I stared long enough maybe I could see something special there too. It wasn’t long before I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. These diagnoses, and the immediate response from my new educational team, was the safety net that kept me from slipping through the cracks. It was this life event that propelled me towards a career in education.

There are so many unique things about me, it is hard to narrow it down to a meaningful few! One significantly relevant factor that has led me to apply for admission into William and Mary’s Early Childhood Education program is the mutual high affinity children and I have always had. Being an only child helps, I think, in that I have more of an appreciation for being around children, since I did not grow up surrounded by them. One of my earliest such memories is playing an impromptu game of Peek-a-Boo with a crying child while in a store checkout line. She cheered right up!
I am Marhitza Rico and I am studying Human Development and Family Science with the concentration in Early Childhood Education. I am currently a junior and hope to graduate in May of 2019 with my Bachelors. After graduating with my Bachelors, I plan to continue one more year and acquire my Masters in Early Childhood Education. With my degree, I will obtain a teaching degree and the opportunity to work in a field that pertains to children from birth to third grade. When I have accomplished my schooling, I plan to look for a job as a social worker. I want to attain experience and learn about the social work field. Optimistically I will fall in love with a social work career, however if that is not the case I will look for a teaching job. If I become a teacher I plan to teach either
The content learned in this course helped validate my philosophy on teaching and learning. Reading and discussing chapter two in the textbook called How the Brain Works helped me confirm that educators need to provide their students activities and experiences where they can be active learners because our brain collect information through the five sense. If educators just give lectures, the student will be a passive learner and chances are that not only will the student’s attention fade, but also the information captured may not be stored in the long-term memory.

The article starts off by talking about how important it is for children to have advocates, and it says, while it can be intimidating, it’s an important part of working with children. It then starts talking about what you can do to go from just being aware of the problems, to taking action to help fix said problems. Staying informed is the first one they list, and it says that caregivers should keep watch on local policies as well as national; especially when it comes to Early Childhood Education. This leads into making sure you keep up with presidential elections, as it’s important to know what candidates support ECE and issues that would help children. The rest is, again, encouraging people to engage in state and federal advocacy organizations;
Born and raised in a rural town in southeast Idaho, the local economy was mostly made up of farmers and workers. I grew up in the working class where there were no luxuries but thankfully my family always had what we needed. There are different parts to growing up a low-income community that have shaped me into the person I am today and that have ultimately motivated me to join Teach for America and that I believe will attribute to my success as a young teacher. Some my best teachers in life have been those that not only inspire me to
Early childhood education (ECE) has an important influence on children. This affect can make children’s life not only easy but also very hard. In my first personal philosophy statement (PPS1), I mentioned some purposes that for me they should cover in early childhood curriculum. I believe that the purposes in PPS1 can help children to gain many abilities such as academic, social and language. However, I think that the main purpose of childhood education should be to make children happy because when children are happy, the whole world can be happy. If they are not happy in their classes, teachers cannot prepare an environment to help them to learn what they aim. When they are ready to learn, they can gain the purposes that they can develop themselves
