In a world where America is a woman’s name, and a country is recovering from erasing a caste system, everything is a little hard to control. It’s even harder when the next heir in line has to prove herself to the country, find love, and learn how to run the country. For Eadlyn Schreave in The Heir by Kiera Cass, life can’t get much harder, but that’s how it is for a future queen. In the novel, the main character, Eadlyn Schreave is the daughter of the beloved Maxon and America Schreave. Eadlyn beat her twin brother to the throne by seven minutes, because of those seven minutes, it resulted in becoming the first girl heir, and her very own selection to find the man of her dreams. She can be impervious to the people of Illea, but an amicable girl to close friends and family, because of the ways Eadlyn presents herself to different people, she does not know who she is on the inside. On the outside, she is fighting to be someone who is untouchable, someone who has everything put together, trying to be perfect. For Eadlyn, perfect is the end goal, but as the story continues, she finds that perfect is unattainable, and she needs to be herself. Eadlyn is set to be the next Queen, but because this is her only option it is hard for her to decipher who she really is and what she really wants. She has always known that this is what she is to become, where everyone else has the privilege to become who they are, Eadlyn does not. Being the heir to the throne troubles Eadlyn because she is already fighting to become who she really is, but on top of finding herself, she has to fight to become what kind of queen she wants to be. In the novel, when Eadlyn feels discouraged or vulnerable, she says to herself: “You are Eadlyn Schreave. You are the next person in line to run this country, and you will be the first girl to do it on your own. No one is as powerful as you” (Cass 5). This quote shows that Eadlyn did not want anyone to undermine her while she was on her road to the throne, and what type of person her people might see her as. Eadlyn’s journey …show more content…
One way the boys try and find love in Eadlyn is her knowing what she wants and when she wants. The boys that admired this attribute of Eadlyn’s, ended up staying at the castle while a majority of them left. For Eadlyn, finding love and knowing what love is, is difficult, but for the boys it’s easy, they know if they love her or not. The boys that entered their names for the selection were searching for love, some of them found love in Eadlyn, others found love in themselves. One other way love is being sought after by the boys is, in themselves. Many of the boys present themselves to be a man that Eadlyn is supposedly looking for, but deep down they are searching to love themselves first. A few of the boys are worried that their past will deter Eadlyn from choosing them, which is opposite from the truth. In the novel Eadlyn is talking to one of the selected, Fox, when he says: “And then there’s you. Look, you know I live paycheck to paycheck. And I come from a broken Family. I realize I’m nothing special” (Cass 246). This quote shows that the boys are hard on themselves attempting to one up themselves and always being better than the other, so when their past comes up, they are embarrassed. Throughout the novel Eadlyn shows that they should accept themselves and she loves them

As you read not only has wording made an influence in the piece but also incorporated is a different point of view. “Boys” is introduced to us in third person offering us a long distances shot of the progress as the boys age. In an interview Rick Moody states that the third person is the mother of the boys, narrating the story in an “understated way, she is the perceiver, their mother is the center piece of the story.” (Rick Moody) Viewing the story from a higher place gives the reader a sense of intimacy with the narrator being able to perceive the lives of the characters the “boys” in a different light, the reader becomes a witness to the events in the progression of the “boys’” lives.
The Graveyard Book Essay Summative The quote I choose was "That's the difference between the living and the dead, enit? The dead dun't disappoint you. They've had their life, done what they've done. We dun't change.
"If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise."
Algernon’s stances on marriage, relationships, and self accurately describe his selfishness. Not only does Algernon destroy his own sense of reality, he destroys everyone else’s concept of the truth. The Importance of Being Earnest is meant to make people laugh; unfortunately, Wilde’s characters are so rude and condescending that the reader can have trouble finding the humor. This play is so full of unhealthy relationships that one has to assume that nothing will work out in the end. Algernon is an egomaniac, and there is no doubt that his attitude will rub off on Cecily, Jack, and
However, his words are a key element to the story because they reflect valuable lessons that the children may need for future reference.
