The Young Elites by Marie Lu is a dystopian novel based in the fourteenth century in which a plague called the blood fever struck. This left the people who became ill either dead or with strange markings on their bodies. The people who had been left with the strange markings were called malfettos. Some of these malfettos were left with supernatural powers and are called young elites while others were outcast and put to shame. As mentioned earlier, the book takes place in the fourteenth century in a country called Kenettra. The book is told from the point of view of many different characters, some being antagonists and others being protagonists. This book is an incredibly creepy suspense novel, as there are many deaths and multiple scenes that are just horrendous to think about. …show more content…
The character who the story is told through the most is a girl called Adelina Amouteru. Adelina is a malfetto who has the power of being able to create illusions in situations when fear and anger are in large amounts. Enzo Valenciano is another malfetto with powers; his power is the ability to draw fire from thin air and is able to bend it to however he wants. Raffaele Bessette is a young consort with the ability to sense other young elite’s powers. Teren Santoro is the main antagonist of the story. He seeks out to kill every malfetto with powers, even though he himself is a malfetto with the power to heal himself incredibly quickly. Violetta Amouteru is Adelina’s sister. She has the power to temporarily take away other people’s powers. The Inquisition Axis isn’t really a character, but they are the group that Teren leads. The Dagger Society are a group of young elites that try to recruit other young elites to attempt to overthrow the Inquisition
The setting of the book begins at a summer camp in Prescott, Arizona called Box Canyon Boys Camp. This setting is important and adds meaning to the story because if it did not take place at the summer camp none of the main characters would have met each other, and the book would take place somewhere else.
All of the character are those who you would not want to talk to and people who you would usually typically drive past. The story initially focuses
The setting takes place by a creek that the townspeople know as the Woman Hollering Creek. It's a stream of water that flows behind the main character, Cleofilas’ house. The
The time period in the story really doesn’t affect my understanding of the novel because it is explained really well how the time period works and what goes on everyday also how life is so the time period doesn’t alter the perceptive at all. The setting enhances the story because it is so different from real life and it takes you into a sort of destroyed fantasy world. Since it is dystopian it gives off a certain mood, like if it were to be a happy place it would give a happy mood but if the mood is dark and eery it will give off a more harsh perspective on the book. The setting is very important in this story because it is a dystopian story not based on reality and the setting also helps to create moods, how characters behave and imagery so it makes it easier for the audience or people to imagine what is going on so they can get a better grasp on the
There are a lot of characters, but i’m going to only name three, Guy Montag, his job is a firefighter who burns books but mentally likes books, he is a protagonist, and a person who changes society. Clarrise, she was spotted by Montag at night. Clarisse likes to talk, and is always in a good mood. She was always considered “ the crazy girl “. Clarisse enjoyed nature, but one night she was hit by a car and died. The third character is Faber, Faber is an old college professor. Faber acts different and knows a lot about books that are banned. Faber has been asked about certain books and paragraphs. Faber was always thought as an old man
It was about the time 2002 and I can tell that buy what the said and how the house looks. The setting is really scary then it was in any other scary books I read. If you want to find out any more of the settings read the book.
The Story is set in a small town in Maine, one based on a town Stephen King himself briefly lived in. The town is small but rich with history, history that Jud Crandall (neighbor and good friend of the Creeds) keeps alive. This sense of history is vital to the story and the mood.
The Young Elites by Marie Lu contains the five main elements of a plot line. To start off, the song “What a Catch, Donnie” by Fall Out Boy is an excellent way to summarize the exposition. The lyrics explain “I got troubled thoughts/ and the self esteem to match”, which corresponds with Adelina’s life. Adelina is full of dark thoughts, and her dad is constantly mean to her, trying to provoke her. She is a Malfetto, a survivor of the plague. All Malfetto have a mark. Adelina has a terrible scar down her face, reminding her she is different. The lines “You’ll never catch us/ So just let me be” show Adelina just wants her father to leave her alone. She thinks if he would stop being mean to her, then her dark thoughts would also stop.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee takes place in Maycomb, Alabama in 1903. This novel is basically a coming of age story for a young girl named Scout and her older brother named Jem. Who grows up in a time where racism is normal. They soon learn to stand up for what is right, just like their dad, Atticus.
Over the summer I enjoyed reading a few great books, including a new favorite, The Young Elites by Marie Lu. This is a fantasy book following the lives of a small group of blood fever survivors who live in Kenettra, The Sealands. This is a made up world and Kenettra is similar to ancient Venice, Italy. The main character, Adelina Amouteru who, after mother dying, her whole life has been shunned and abused by her father for being a malfetto, or an abomination, leaving the only person truly there for her to be her younger sister. To make matters worse, she is left obvious markings from the blood fever, including all her hair turning silver and losing her left eye. This causes her to be unwanted by suitors and her father to lose business.
I thought it was going to be in the Genocide time. It mainly talked about Emma and her life after Genocide. I really liked the book, its content, but I'm not a hundred percent
To Kill a Mockingbird is set in Maycomb County, Alabama in the 1930s. There is a myriad of families in this small county. Blacks, farmers, businessmen, and strong single women all call Maycomb County home. The book is told from the point of view of a little girl named Jean Louise Finch, or as many of the townspeople call her, Scout. Her father, whom they call Atticus, raises her with her brother Jem. A majority of the book deals with the trial of Tom Robinson, during which Scout begins to understand that not everybody is as fair as Atticus, raised Jem and her to be.
Typically, the story does not take place anywhere specific. Rather, the action will happen in a very generic place such as the woods. They are the stories of your childhood.
First, let’s review the characters in the main story, of which there are few in the literary story
