We can learn alot from a government in a dystopian novel. By using the philosophies of John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, we can see that a weak connection from government to people can be a leading factor in the choices of individuals in a society.

The government is an important part of society. One society needs a government to create a stable economy and let everyone thrive. According to Thomas Hobbes Social contract theory, people sacrifice some of their rights in order to receive protection from the government. That is exactly what most dystopian novels do. The government needs to make sure that all people are treated equally and protected from themselves and the outside world. The government needs to be able to command its people in order to maintain a society. The book A Brave New World by Aldous Leonard Huxley, has a very controlling government. The government cloned embryos to have these perfect people. And they create different social classes to be in society. The government keeps each working class fed, and happy by putting them to work. This may not be the best government, at all, but it does keep the society functioning and that's what matters. To show an example of another dystopian government, In Anthem, they have houses for each job occupation that school graduates are assigned to. The people in this society are not allowed to switch houses. ONce one is assigned, they are stuck. The government keeps the citizens happy by showing that each and every person is an important role in the community. They rights the people have in both novels are the absolute bare minimum. And this is because each government is already controlling them. They have the right to listen and obey their government. A lot of these dystopian novels are based on Thomas Hobbes Social Contract
