Dying From Old Age

Have you heard the phrase, “Everyone has dead people?” Death, especially of those who are close to you, is a sensitive topic, and can be hard to accept. How can you live without them, if you’ve experienced your whole life with them? Even if it seems impossible, you have to get by in life somehow. It’s only natural to grow up and grow past death.

Death is a natural thing in life. Everyone at one point will die. Although it is a fact that is common, when it happens to someone it feels more personal and miserable. Liesel felt the same way when her brother died.

Losing a grandparent at the age of 11 and younger was hard enough but losing one at the age of thirty-five hurt just as much. My grandmother is still living, I wasn't as close to them as I was to my other grandparents but there was still a relationship that was built throughout my lifetime. I had the chance to visit my grandfather while he was in the hospital. Regretfully when I went to see him he was too ill to have a conversation with, but my grandmother reassured me that it was ok because he knew I was there. My grandfather was cremated, this was the first time I attended a funeral where I saw a box of ashes holding someone who I loved. His funeral consisted our close family members and my grandfather's remains were placed in a mausoleum. His death affected all of us in one way or another, this was the first time I saw my dad cry. Watching my grandmother lay in the hospital and dieing was one of the most painful feelings I have ever felt in my life. I felt many different emotions when she passed away. I felt sad, angry, shocked, and many more, but all those feelings made me stronger as person mentally. I knew that one day everyone would die and no one could control that. Her death affected me in both a positive and negative way. My dad regrets many things that he did to his mom, so I know now that one day my parents will die and I should respect them and let them know I love them every day. My parents have both suffered from diabetes mellitus type 2 for more than 8years now and I'm really thankful to God that it is controlled for both of them. My dad was diagnosed later than my mom in November 2008. He came to pick me from school after finals for my diploma nursing course and I told him he had lost a lot of weight, "many people have told me so" he said reluctantly. I told him I wouldn't go home before we went to the hospital for a general checkup, wasn't easy convincing him but he accepted finally. At the hospital an RBS read HI, so he was admitted for overnight monitoring, after that moment, he still never took condition any serious.

My grandpa went through many of those events in life, but mainly with his sons and daughters. Most of my aunts and uncles on my father's side died from unnatural causes. Such causes of their deaths were from abusive relationships, alcoholism, plague (pollio) and organ failures. The main point is, it ought to be heartbreaking to see your children become deceased before your time is up. Throughout the twelve kids, only three survived to live till this very day. As for devastating, my grandfather's main treasure was my grandmother. My grandparents were married for seventy years. They raised, provided for them and together fought hard times. My  grandfather's heart was completely shattered with her death. She had been the only one there for him in life to take care of him. With my grandmother recently deceased, family turned against my grandpa and everything went wrong. His last daughter that lived began to steal his money and his wife's jewelry. His youngest son with his wife tried to take over the house and together tried to put the only son that was helping him in jail, my father. In the end, my grandpa sold his most valued house and stood away from his son and daughter. He lost everything that meant a lot to him, the house, his kids and his

I have lost my grandpa and have not gotten over the idea of it. When I was in the sixth grade, my grandfather was very sick; he could barely walk. While my grandmother and some other family members went uptown for some household things, food, and medication, I was told to take care of him. Yet, I wanted to play with my friends outside. He told me to go ahead and play, but for some reason I just got mad and slammed the door and left. Around nighttime, I seen an ambulance pull up to my grandparents’ house.

Death is different for everyone and every culture. Some see it as a celebration, some a time for mourning and grief, and some cultures just go on with their lives and deal with it however they please. In my family's way of life, it's a time for grieving, but knowing we will see her one day again soon. Religion is a big part of my family and lifestyle, so I know where my mom went, and even though I won't see her on Earth again, I know I will see her in Heaven. Which, even though comforting, was still hard for me to accept and grasp. Transitioning from having my mom to fall back on when I needed help, and her not being there anymore is a harsh part of the reality of adulthood, real adulthood. My mom used to make my appointments for me, took care of me when I was ill, held me when I was sad, and now she's not there. She'll never be there for the most important parts of my life. She'll never see me graduate college, get married, or hold my child in her arms. I am now the sole matriarch of my future family and that was and is still hard to think about. Even though I won't have to take that responsibility on for a few years, I have to deal with that now, because I have to start learning how to do things on my own; not just for me now, but for my future self and family as well. Though some may say, myself included, that the death of a family member is one of the hardest, toughest, traumatic things to deal with, it also comes with a good side. That good side is that it brings people together to not only mourn over a loss, but to celebrate the life of someone great. One can either sink from a situation like this, or one can rise. I feel like my family and I chose to rise from this. We were all changed in so many ways. My grandma, Veronica, was especially changed the most. As people grow old or have diseases, they can die. It is a natural process. Although you may know that truth, you sometimes cannot overcome the grief due to the loss of a loved one, such as a wife or a husband. However, you have to continue to live your life, and grief can only bring bad impacts to your health. You should learn to cope with that loss.

In some ways we allow death to take over us. If someone we love and we are close to dies we just give up and quit living at times. In some cases death makes us stronger and sometimes it can make us weaker, and it all depends on how we take it and how we choose to deal with it. Death is always hard and is never easy, but our lives go on, and so does everyone else’s life and we have to face that fact and let it make us stronger and not let it just bury us down.

Have you ever had someone that was close to you die? I have had pets that I was close to die, but not someone I saw on weekly bases, until my great grandfather died. Death is something everyone experiences some time in their lifetime and people deal with it in many different ways. In the August of 2016, I was forced to learn how I was going to learn to deal with it.

Now I can say that I had never understood others suffering from a bad loss of a dear person.  I would hate to hear that anybody died. When this happened to me, when my dear mother died, I started to understand all those people who lost someone they loved. There are perhaps no proper words to describe this pain, This intolerable pain which tears you apart, which is like a stone on your heart, and which make tears run down your face with each moment spent with the dear person who passed away. Time is unlikely to pass so fast this hurt, no matter what others claim.
