I wish you could have met Fred and me before the driver of the milk truck ran over us. While it is true that many older people are not active, we were in good physical and mental condition. We worked long hours on our property and contributed to our church and community. That lifestyle has been taken from us at no fault of our own. Not being able to settle this is adding to our stress and pain in my right shoulder typing these letters. Please consider the following facts: *Standing and balance are difficult for me. I cannot look up without fear of falling. (Example – this morning I wanted to look up in a tree to see a bird and could not.) *I need to walk with a cane or close to something/someone I can hold onto. * I can no longer safely

All over the news and in different programs that are implemented are set in place are geared toward children in poverty. Poverty in children is a huge problem happening all over the country but what about the elderly. We get so focus on helping the children that the elderly can sometimes be looked over and forgotten about. In Texas, 17% of all elderly are living in poverty. Poverty in the elderly is an issue that continues to rise at a fast pace and this may be because of food insecurity that they may face (Communities Foundation of Texas, 2016). Most people feel like getting old is so far in the future for them, or just the idea of aging is too hard to think about but getting old for all of us is imminent. The elderly once took care of us, so it is
I am afraid of heights and I cannot pull myself to go higher. It sounds funny, but fear is all over me. Even though my family keeps encouraging me and convinces me that I will be fine, I cannot move my feet to continue. I feel like if I move another step I would fall off the hills. I’m not sure if I will be able to overcome this fear. Unlike, Ray our difference is, he figure out that he is not afraid. That he cannot fall off the mountain and I never feel the same way. I feel relieve when I saw my family walking down the hills because I know that I can now go down and will not endure the fear while waiting for them to come down; I feel bad but it’s
Research show that in 2013, over 9.5% of seniors over the age of sixty-five lived in poverty with the percentage increasing as an individual’s age increases (McNeal, 2016). These statistics does not account for the other issues which affects families and caretakers when addressing the well-being of their loved ones and the inadequate access to long term care.
When presented with the word “elderly,” a twenty-year-old might begin to think of the joys of retirement when an older person has spent their life building a comfortable bank account; they then get to reward themselves by journeying around the world with their near and most dear companion. When reality sets in, that person may realize that a lot of today’s elderly are living in nursing homes or living week-by-week not knowing if they are going to be able to leave their hospital bed just to go relax in their recliner at home. While it is true that some elderly enjoy their last twenty or thirty years on earth, a lot of the elderly in America are struggling to hang on to life while being abused every day by healthcare workers or even loved ones. While many people have been working endlessly to put a stop to elder abuse, not everyone can say the same.
Difficulties standing made it extremely difficult for me to reach upwards or bend down while reaching (e.g. kitchen cupboards)
Elderly people (women and men age sixty-five or older) (Macionis, 2005), Have many obstacles to face as they grow older, many of these obstacles involve social inequality. Not only do the elderly have to learn to deal with many forms of Ageism (the stereotyping and prejudice against individuals or groups because of their age), some also have to deal with the fact that they do not have enough savings or pension benefits to be self supporting, for most people over sixty-five, the major source of income is social security (Macionis, 2005). This forces many elderly Americans back into the workforce to continue to earn money to support themselves and or spouses. Although many elderly Americans may choose
There are more than 253 Million cars and trucks in the U.S at this moment. That sounds like a lot but really it isn’t that many. For every 1.3 cars or trucks there is only one person in the United States. With this many cars and trucks in the U.S. there is bound to be some controversy about which one is better. Many people may prefer trucks over cars and in vice versa. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. While trucks are better at hauling or towing things, cars have better gas mileage and can hold more people.
Later adulthood is the time in life when changes in marriage, families, and peer relationships are affected the most by the loss of someone close to that person. “Most people 70 years of age or older are widowed, divorced, or single” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2010, p.619). Losing a spouse or close friend can create a sense of loneliness, which causes depression, anxiety and the emptiness feeling can become overwhelming. Depression also leads to psychological effects that will deteriorate a person’s health causing the chance for a terminal disease to become much higher. The weaker appearance of older adults causes family and remaining peers to step up in the role of making sure the person’s wellbeing is being met. (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2010). Truck driving is a job that people have a passion for. People don't just wake up thinking I wanna get a job truck driving. It's a passion and commitment because the process is not easy. Especially when you have to go state to state some people can't handle the days away from there family and 2nd they can't handle the on the road life period. There are great outcomes though especially when you a have years behind this career.
I have always admired the senior citizens who are wondering how they have passed such long journeys of their lives. They not only have accomplished achievements, but also have done memorable works that deserve admiration, respect, and priority in today’s society. These old people may look incompetent and unexciting in somebody’s eyes and thoughts, but not everyone realizes that they are the people with greatest knowledge and experiences beyond their masters of life. From my own experience, whenever I see an old mister or mistress looking for help or in need of help, I can never ignore him or
As beautiful as life is, it can be hard to watch someone get older. When our bodies do not work the way they used to, people feel betrayed. I grew very close to some of my customers and when one of them was sent to a retirement home so he could be cared for it was very sad. However, now thinking about this was the best decision to make.
Throughout my high school career I always knew what I wanted to do. that was to become an airline pilot. With this dream in mind I had no way of paying for all of the certifications that go along with it. Then I was presented with the opportunity to go to Tri-County Technical Center(TCTC) for their commercial truck driving program. Now throughout the last semester I have obtained my Class B licence and working on my class A permit. That brings us to present day and my project. My project consists of learning about the inner workings of our detachable trailer at TCTC. When I say inner workings I mean, how to pre trip the trailer, how to load and unload, and attach and detach both sections. I will have a video in my slide show showing the the product
In 1975, the state of Texas denied undocumented children free schooling including elementary, middle school, and high school. However, the court case Plyler v. Doe believed it was unconstitutional and the policy was stuck down by the Supreme Court in 1982. In 1985, activist in the state of California attempted to push forward post-secondary education for undocumented adolescents so that they can receive financial assistance and pay in-state tuition and receive financial assistance from the states. The Leticia A. v. Board of Regents of the Universi¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ty of California passed which allowed undocumented adolescents to receive financial assistance at the federal level. However, it was turned down in
