Problems with drinking and driving On average over 32% of fatal car crashes include an intoxicated pedestrian or driver, yet people drive after drinking every day. People tend to think they are fully able to drive after “couple” of drinks until they get involve in an accident, which has killed a lot of innocent people that didn’t do anything to cause an accident. Alcohol affects attentiveness and one’s ability to make quick decisions on the road, execute specific, often difficult maneuvers behind the wheel and to react to changes in the environment. When a person’s BAC is 0.02 the person begins to experience some loss of judgment, relaxation, a decline in visual functions and the ability to perform two tasks at the same time. Furthermore, when
The facts are plain and simple, that alcohol and driving do not mix. About three in every ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol related crash at some time in their lives. Every single injury and death caused by drunk driving is totally preventable. To curb this national travesty, concerned Americans need to examine the problems, the effects, and the solutions to drunk driving. First of all, America has had a problem with drunk driving since Ford perfected the assembly line. Alcoholism is a problem in and of itself, but combined with driving can have a wide range of effects. The consequences of this reckless behavior can include a first time DUI or licenses suspension; a small fender bender, or worst of all a deadly crash. Most
Each year, 13,000 people are killed by drunk drivers with a blood alcohol level above .08. Advocates of a new standard for in-car breathalyzers say that most, if not all, of those accidents could have been avoided if the drunk driver hadn't been able to turn his or her car on. If Congress and Mothers Against Drunk Driving get their way, could your next new car could come with a breathalyzer pre-installed?
Why did I check the specific numbers regarding drink driving? This is because of a recent incident that happened to my parent’s friend Mr. X.
From the day, the first motor vehicle was invented, the inventors did not realize that alcohol would become a problem for drivers. Although people tried taking keys away and designated drivers, fatalities involving drunk drivers continued to rise. With the advancement in technology, there had to be a way to prevent vehicles from being started if a person was under the influence of alcohol. Even though convicted drunk driving offenders already receive fines and jail time, ignition interlocks should be mandatory for all convicted drunk driving offenders because ignition interlocks reduce alcohol-related traffic crashes and ignition interlocks

Driving under the influence has affected many people's lives and families. Today I would like to talk to you about the problems of drinking and driving, and why it is a concern for all of us. Driving under the influence is one of the most common and dangerous situations you can put yourself or someone else in. The fact is that drinking and driving is a huge deal and can leave a long trail of broken dreams and hearts. If you drink and drive, not only are you putting yourself at risk, but your passengers and the pedestrians outside of your vehicle. According to the most recent statistics by the National Commission Against Drunk Driving states that 17,000 Americans die each year in alcohol- related traffic crashes and 600,000 Americans
Every year there is thousands of car crashes throughout the nation, a large portion of them are caused by impaired driving. When people hear the term impaired driving, most think driving under the influence, DUI, but in reality there’s many factors that can cause it. Some of the factors are having alcohol or drugs in your system, medical conditions, mental or physical disabilities, or even driving when you’re sleepy. An officer’s job is to detect people on the road who are impaired and to get them off the road. An officer must be able to detect a DUI from observing an individual.
According to one of the world’s foremost medical research centers called the National Institute of Health
29% of all traffic-related deaths in the United States include drinking and driving. Shocking? This percentage may not seem very large, but this estimates to 10,265 people (“drinking and driving”). Statistics show that drinking usually starts at a very young age of adolescence. It seems to be a very popular activity amongst many teens this day in age and has a very negative effect on today’s society. The habit inducing feeling of intoxication from this so-called drug of choice can easily vary in severity. Although many are aware of the dangers and warnings of drinking and driving, not everybody knows their limit. Drinking and driving is not only illegal, but is also dangerous because it can impair your health, put other drivers at risk, and
One of the largest causes of death today is drinking and driving, also known as impaired driving. Alcohol related deaths are increasing daily due to people not knowing what their limits are and there are irresponsible impaired drivers that get behind the wheel of a car and do not think about others on the road. Alcohol usage is being abused and misused, and it must be put to an end. Families everyday are losing loved one in drunk driving accidents that could have been prevented. Alcohol is extremely addictive, and some people can monitor their consumptions, but others fail to do so, and that can result to alcohol taking over their lives.
Alcohol overdose, called “alcohol poisoning,” is a potentially deadly, very serious consequence of drinking large quantities of alcohol in a relatively short period of time.

Also it is important that all people driving under the influence are penalized by this type of action. “In 1984, congress passed the national minimum drinking age. Which required all states to change the drinking age to twenty-one” (Galo 2013). I think changing the drinking age was the right thing to do simply because when your under twenty-one you can be very immature and careless to think about others. “Evidence has emerged that since the change of the drinking age it has reduce the traffic accidents” (Gallo 2013). Although there are less accidents it still won’t stop underage drinking and driving around the world. Drunk driving can be very deadly if you get behind the wheel of a car. I will talk about legal drinking age, victims/ statistics, and cost of drunk driving.
One person is killed every 51 minutes in collisions as a result of alcohol impaired drivers. This has been a big problem in the United States and they need to do something to stop it. People will never learn from their mistakes if they do not make the drunk driving laws more strict. People never know how drunk they are until they get behind the wheel and try to drive. Our laws do not seem harsh enough so they do not think it is a big deal if they get picked up for drunk driving. People go out and have a couple drinks then think it is okay to drive themselves home until they get into a car accident and take someone’s life. In order to make fatalities decrease, the government needs to make the law more strict so no one's life will be in danger
“Have one drink for the road” was, until recently, a commonly used phrase in American culture. It has only been within the past 20 years that as a nation, we have begun to recognize the dangers associated with drunk driving (Sutton 463). According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, this year 519,000 people, or one person per minute, will be injured in alcohol-related accidents. 10,839 people will die in drunk-driving crashes this year – that is one death every 50 minutes. The heartbreaking part is, every injury and lost life due to driving after drinking can be prevented. Drinking while driving “accidents” are not merely “accidents.” Getting in a vehicle after consuming alcohol, which severely affects the function of
