There is a huge problem with the whole “Dress code Policy” thing in all schools. Enforcing the dress code rule is very hard because, as a student, we do not listen. “Pants at the waistline” or “long shorts” are all kind of unrealistic. What if i wanted to wear high waisted pants? Would i be punished because it’s not necessarily at my waist? There is no such thing as “long shorts”, in that case wouldn’t it just be pants? How about we solve all the Dress code rules by just having everyone come to school naked. Yes that’s sounds like the perfect plan. No teacher would have to worry about what each and every student has on simply because they wouldn’t have on any. What’s the problem with that? Just an abundance of students walking to class
Students struggle throughout high school and go through a great deal of stress. Whether it be making friends, or working hard to pass a difficult class. To make things more pressuring, they are not allowed to wear what they want. The administration made the decision that it is best to suspend a student for their choice in clothing. If they go against the rule of dress code, there will be serious consequences. What students wear should not affect their class work. If a student gets sent home for their outfit, it is affecting their grades and attendance. Punishment disrupts the students education more than what they are wearing. High school students should feel free to embrace their individuality without being pressured by dress codes; therefore, it should be eliminated from all schools indefinitely.
Dress codes is a standard of clothing for school, office, club, or restaurant. Schools have dress codes to promote professionalism and a distraction-free learning environment. More standards of dressings are set in place for girls than males. This causes an unequal amount of bias towards women and sexism to occur in the dress code.
The controversy about dress codes asks an important question: are dress codes targeting girls and transgender students? Several sites including:https://www.adl.org/education/resources/tools-and-strategies/table-talk/what's-fair-and-unfair-about-student-dress-codes, stated that when they spoke to girls they said they feel shamed and judged by dress codes. Are dress codes limiting students creativity. Should these girls really feel harassed men and boys at their school?
Currently, the student dress code in the 2015-2016 Payette High School (PHS) Handbook is completely vague. It mentions in depth dressing issues regarding hats and graphics on clothing. Now the exact wording regarding how much the body needs to be covered is, “Dress shall not disrupt or distract from the educational process.” As I discussed this issue with students that currently attended PHS, I noticed a correspondence among different stories. Due to the fact that there is not a specific dress code, different teachers have diverse interpretations of what disturbs the educational process. Another aspect of the dress policy includes, “Violations of dress code may result in removal from school until dress is appropriate.” Students, particularly female students, express
School dress codes have become a very large issue, though it always has been, but now that students have been protesting against their school's dress code there have been many more problems that are surfacing between the school district and the students. School dress codes are taking away the purpose of school, students come to learn, and to be educated, but instead are forced to change their clothing because it doesn’t fit the school dress code. The dress code solely takes away students creativity and their right to explore with clothing. The administration also tells students to “not care what others think” then take students out of class and tell them that the length of their shorts is making a
School dress codes are believed to be to strict today, and that they need to be changed. These rules on what to wear and what not to wear are applied mainly because shorts and tank tops are seen as a distraction to other students in the classroom. Shorts that show too
These dress codes only create problems for students. Fashion, style and kids taste in clothing is changing every day. Limiting a student's freedom of expression proves to be detrimental to students mental health and development. These changes in style should not dictate whether a student should be allowed in school wearing such attire. Detentions and suspensions are not the answer to breaches of dress codes. Allowing kids freedom of expression through clothing will make students happier and more self confident in how they act and what they do. The sooner kids find confidence in what they do, the better. It is high time for schools to revise these dress codes to be more suitable for kids of
How many times have you heard of a child being sent home due to their outfit? In so many towns and cities there is ridiculous dress codes. Most of the dress codes are directed towards females. These rules somewhat make them feel as if they have to hid their bodies so they won’t distract men. High school dress codes are detrimental to all student’s confidence outside and inside the classroom.
At a local elementary school, a fifth grade girl is teased by classmates about her clothes being raggedy and not so stylish. Five weeks later, she overdosed on her mother’s pain medication and died at the local hospital. Beside her bed, her mom found a note that said, “I am so tired of people making fun of me and my clothes.”
"I just feel like [the dress code] needs to be explained better, like they need to do a better job of presenting it to us, instead of just saying we can wear crew necks and then taking us out of class if we wear our crew necks," (Tori Taylor). This quote is a perfect example of how dress codes are not properly executed in schools all across America. Varying depending on school, dress codes can be confusing and extremely hard to navigate. Girls all over the country have been forced to take time out of their day to change or even leave the school, because of shirts they’ve worn a thousand times before. If there is a shirt that supposedly breaks dress code, a girl should be reprimanded every single time she wears it, right? Wrong. This is because
School Dress Codes: one of the most enforced school policies of all time for students of any age and gender. Of course, everyone has their opinion about what is too short or too long, what is too low or too high, and what is too tight or too loose; however, according to schools, middle school and high school girls are all “indecent”, or how the students put it, whorish. Because of this, there are very specific rules, right down to the T, about what girls can and cannot wear while on school grounds. As the handbook says, “Skirts, dresses, and shorts cannot be more than 2 ¼ inches above the knee.” Oh, and to make you moan and groan even more, “The inseam of your shorts has to be, at the very least, 4 inches long.” So they are trying to tell me and the rest of the student body that we can only wear long shorts? Is it just me, or does that bulls*** sound like an oxymoron? Wouldn’t long shorts be… what do you call them? Oh… pants?
Schools should have a dress code, but not as strict. What I mean is by like you can wear Tank tops and more. If it is like super inappropriate for us to wear, then yeah, you shouldn’t be wearing that, but if it is a tank top that is not inappropriate, then they should be allowed to wear it.
Dress code only states girls shorts must have a 3 inch inseam, leaving the boys open to wear spandex to school! If you ask me, blinding- white thighs are 10x more distracting than a girl's bare shoulder. Additionally, why does dress code not mention boy’s low cut shirts? Massive pecs are just as enticing as big breasts. With the removal of dress code, there would be less sexualization due to frequent exposure to the opposite sexs´
The punishments for the students who don’t follow the dress code are under the actual dress code rules. In the past American schools would send their students home or expel them for breaking the dress code’s rules, but nowadays those types of punishments are unacceptable for a school to do. Schools need to make sure that the students are aware of what they should be wearing and if they choose to disobey they will receive detention, the same punishment for breaking any rules in the school’s code of conduct. The students need to understand their school is serious and determined to set things straight when it comes to their punishment for the clothing they choose to wear to school. At the end of the day both the school and their students need to make a compromise as to what is needed to make sure that the dress code policy is followed at all times, and that every student and their parents know the consequences behind the school’s dress
Complaint I: I think we shouldn’t have a dress code at school. I honestly feel that if I’m paying for my clothes, my own self I should be able to wear them. I feel like the majority of the clothes I wear aren’t inappropiate or if they are I don’t try to be , I simply wear them to express myself. I also feel that if they keep the dress code they need to be fair with it and not let some people wear it and some people not.
