Dr. Neil dGrasse Tyson does not believe that UFOs exist because there is no evidence that supports the idea. Throughout his discussion, Dr. Tyson used a variety of rhetorical appeals to convey his message. Kairos is in effect when the timing is right to evoke a certain response from one's audience, usually the desired response is a call of action. This appeal also takes into account where the location is, when the speech is delivered, and why the topic needs to be addressed. The location of the event seemed to be in an auditorium, which is great because the message is being heard by a lot of people. The speech was delivered within the last ten years because the speaker has an Iphone. In the past ten years there seems to be a strong presence
Dalkesha Bryant is a motivational speaker and the CEO/Founder of the inspirational brand Reflections of Greatness. She was raised by her mother, in a low-income community, in Cincinnati Ohio. As a young child, she always aspired to be greater than the tough circumstances that surrounded her. Once she found her voice, she used the chaos around her to fuel her drive to be more than a “product of her environment.” She was determined to become a product of her thoughts. She learned early on that in life, your mindset is the driving force the controls your outcomes not your environment.
In the article,” Don’t Mess With the Stars and Stripes”, Leepson uses Logos to make his argument more reliable. He says,” No. 1 A national symbol looms large in the social, political and emotional hearts and minds of millions of Americans. The logos technique he used when he stated this was definition because he is making a claim about the meaning of something. Saying this, he is making a statement saying that the flag and the national anthem are important and gives people a feeling of emotion. Also, another way Leepson uses logos is when he states,” The flag and “The Star-Spangled Banner” — which is nothing if not an ode to the flag — are de rigueur elements of every type of political event and nearly every sporting event from Little League

In the CNN article titled Sacramento “Police Shot Man Holding Cellphone in his Grandmother's Yard”, the authors target was an audience from a broad spectrum of political ideologies to inform them about the current police shooting of Stephon Clark. The rhetoric pathos was effectively utilized with various media and even the title to evoke certain emotions from the readers. However, the authors’ view on the issue was not clearly stated rather highlights the different perspectives.
Aaron Hunter, a college student conducts a four and half minute presentation in what appears to be a freshman English class; in this he explains the reasons why he thinks the legal drinking age should not be lowered from twenty one. Hunter uses a variety of facts, statistics, and other displays to help the audience in understanding his argument, although fails to gives references or credibility to all the recourses that he used to find them. With this he also presents himself as nervous or unsteady throughout majority of the presentation, making it hard for the audience to be drawn in by his presentation. This making Hunter’s overall speech somewhat effective, due to both his ethos and paths appeals, being significantly weaker than his logos
The African American society has been deprived of their privileges as well as their rights and have been fighting for them since the past time. They were enslaved, poverty-stricken, underprivileged, neglected and discriminated from other parts of the society. During the Civil War which occurred in 1861, the African Americans were denied to join the Union army. Alfred M. Green, who was a powerful speaker, delivered a speech in Philadelphia in April 1861 to motivate the black society to be enlisted in the war. Therefore, Green uses tone, diction as well as a pathos appeal to persuade his fellow African Americans to join the Union forces.
The situation being emphasized by Mr. Smith is from his own experiences as a child. He tells us not how to raise a black child or how not to even, he was criticizing the situations he grew up in which made his parents and every other parent of a black family raise their children the way they did. The fear that the society doesn’t accept the life of their children and will try and crush it out of them is so high that, all of them eventually end up raising their children in a protective environment by constantly warning them of the dangers of the world, which may make the children realize that the world may not accept them the way they are.

The way we live-this beat up hole-everything”(
The rhetorical situation refers to “a situation in which people’s understanding can be changed through messages.” (Zarefsky, 12). The rhetorical situation analysis consists of four elements: audience, occasion, speaker and speech, each assessing the quality of speech. In this essay, I will analyze the rhetorical situation of the historical speech “The Challenger Address” delivered by the 40th president of the United States, Ronald Reagan.
George Will appeals to the use of logos by using logic and information to back up what he is stating. At the end of the article George Will states that The United States, China, Russia, and India hold 60 percent of the world’s coal this is already a very large percentage and will continue to grow as an Australian company plans to build the Cowlitz facility and another company signed a contract to give China Australian coal. By stating these facts he is able to get across the point that this much coal is not good for the world as there is already an estimated 6 billion tons being burned.
In Albert Einstein’s response to Phyllis Wright’s question inquiring as to whether scientists pray and what for, he utilizes the components of rhetoric in an effective manner. Firstly, Einstein would be very familiar with the subject at hand, considering that he and many of his colleagues are scientists, whose beliefs he would have most likely known. As a speaker, Einstein kept in mind his audience and spoke more as a teacher, also taking care to use simple terms as Phyllis was only in the sixth grade. His reputation as a scientist was already at this point grand, thus ethos is addressed without needing its own written responses. Understanding that in this context he must be very to the point, Einstein began with, after a short introduction,
Health care is an endless debate in America which has become even more prevalent since Trump’s inauguration. In this political cartoon, the intended audience is the American people. The people and their own well being are what is being affected while Trump carelessly experiments with health care plans that best suit him and not the people. To many, Uncle Sam is a direct representation of the American people and their wants or needs. Therefore, Uncle Sam’s sorrowful demeanor while being debriefed by “Dr.” Trump indicates that the American people are not receiving the proper treatment they deserve. The purpose of this piece is to express that while Trump may be able to dress the part of a leader, or in this instance a doctor, he really does not
Earth is the only planet known to support life. This life has created millions of different species, all part of a complex food chain and all with a distinct niche. These species all have differing habitats, ranging from freezing tundras and parched deserts to vast oceans and lavish rainforests. Among these species, one seems to overpower every other: homosapiens. Humans have made it their duty to find a way to survive in all sorts of environments, to explore every inch of the planet, and to make the best of what they discover. There are so many things to do, so many things to create, that humans are still working to reach their full potential. One such network that shows everything there is to show is Discovery Channel. In one commercial ad, Discovery Channel uses strong persuasion skills and rhetorical devices to make viewers feel that the Earth is amazing and that the entire human race is one large planet-loving group of people, all while luring people to watch their programs.
The death penalty is a very controversial topic that has been the top of discussion for years around the world. It is a topic that many individuals feel very strongly about. Christopher Hitchens, a political journalist in Washington D.C., writes an essay entitled “Scenes from an Execution” in which it is clear that he is against it. To get his views across in the essay, he uses light humor rather than very serious scenarios directed toward it, although it is a very serious topic. Instead of ranting about opinions, Hitchens writes about his experiences and how others as well as himself were affected. He uses rhetorical devices such as ethos, logos, and pathos to attack capital punishment.
