One example of a story of difference that is used to perpetuate oppression in today’s society, is the controversial remarks given by Donald Trump when speaking of immigrants coming from Mexico. According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump stated that Mexico sent the United States, its immigrants who carry numerous problems (drugs, rape, crime, etc.) for America to solve (2015). Donald Trump further stated that the United States had become a dumping ground for other people’s problems (Associated Press, 2015). These comments initially sparked widespread outrage and confusion by the public, while few hesitantly agreed with the presidential candidate. Although organizations such as NBC and Univision ended their business relations with Trump,
The “disturbances of collective order” (Durkheim 1915, 246) or norms with spikes in unemployment and increased competition in labor market could have resulted in what Durkheim referred to as anomic suicide. People’s lives have been greatly impacted and they are uncertain of the future in America. Trump argues that immigrants pose a competition in labor market and he promised to bring jobs back for American workers or the White working class. It’s harder for them to live with the decline of jobs because in the old economic order, White workers have greater opportunities for growth. When their expectation of themselves in the society is threatened, Trump’s promise
There are even more people engrossed in Trump's campaign as his contentious rhetoric is spreading and becoming exponentially obscene. His words foreshadow what he'd do if he were president. My teachers have said that they "don't care" if Trump becomes president because "he wouldn't have any power, thanks to Congress." Obviously, that's false, and as we all have seen, his divisive words have been significantly detrimental to unification in this country - and he's not even in charge. I can imagine how he'd undermine the liberties granted by this country from the start. As he gains more advocates for becoming President of the U.S.A, I'm sure everyone else will be even more surprised by what he has to say because he'll have more leeway for his
The 2016 Presidential Election has brought a lot of controversy due to negative statements about not only the United States but as well as other countries specifically focusing on Mexico and the border. Both Presidential Candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton have both touched on the topic about Mexico and its border. However, Donald Trump has been the one with the negative statements about Mexico, the border, and their people. I am arguing about the lack of reliability of Donald Trump's statements throughout the Presidential Election about Mexico, the border, and their people. Trump had stated that, “Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border. The United States has become a dumping ground for Mexico and, in
This essay will discuss the issue of whether Elizabeth Warren is one of the worst Senators in the entire United States Senate. During a campaign rally, Donald Trump argues supporting Senator Warren is a mistake for several reasons. I will argue that his argument against Elizabeth Warren has several flaws.
The column I choose was, “Trump’s inner circle knows he has lost” by Jennifer Rubin. The argument presented in the column is that everyone that supports Donald Trump, or has supported him in the past, knows he is going to lose the election. I completely agree with Rubin but her evidence simply does not make sense to me. She writes, “Donald Trump Jr. is already making excuses,” and does not present a single piece of evidence to prove it. She also writes, “Running for president, the Trump scion proclaimed, is a ‘step down’ for his father,” and doesn't give a name to the person saying this, let alone, provide the quote in its entirety. The entire column is unclear and bounces from example to example without much elaboration. This column is part
As he continued with his explanation he began to use the straw man fallacies. Somehow the conversation shifted from generating jobs to China devaluing currency. He “claims” that China is using us to rebuild their country and continues to say that we have no politicians to fight their actions. It is completely off topic but yet he also does this again where he brings up child care out of nowhere and persists to give irrelevant statements that lingers the initial question. Donald Trump uses a particular rhetoric appeal to persuade his audience which I believe to be pathos. For example: during certain segments of his claims the inflation in his voice rises when he attempts to counter a claim. Pathos refers to using emotiono to get your point across and that is all Donald Trump would exhibit. Trump would interrupt and/or overspeak Hillary
[Abstract]In the 2016 American presidential election, Donald Trump, who has been dampening down since his announcement of running for president, beat his opponent Hilary Clinton, being elected as the next president of the United State, which was seen as a political miracle. As we know, rhetoric plays a vital role in western society, and it is even more closely interconnected with the western political life. The rhetoric resources were divided into three parts in the western classical rhetoric. They are logos, pathos and ethos. And Aristotle has long put forward that ethos is the controlling factor of persuasion. From a perspective of ethos of western rhetoric, this paper is to illustrate the core theory of ethos and to focus on the Donald Trump’s first public speech running for presidency, and then to make an in-depth analysis on how Trump constructed his identity and character through the use of ethos strategies in his speech and thus earned great popularity and more voters’ support. This paper is intended to point out the decisive role of ethos in persuasion.
It's common knowledge that Donald Trump is controversial. He often gets attention for saying outrageous things. His latest comments about immigrants seem to have pushed the envelope too far. NBC has cut ties with him. His comments centered on Mexican immigrants. He referred to them as mainly drug dealers, and rapists. While going on to say that some were probably good people, but most were not. This caused a huge backlash against him.
“Make America Great Again!” This is the campaign slogan for the republican candidate Donald Trump, who is running for present in the 2016 presidential election. His slogan is simple yet complex, it’s easy to dream about but hard to do. The United States of America is starting to become an extremely corrupt place. We now live in a time where police officers are viewed as our enemies instead of our friends, where if you give someone in your local supermarket a friendly “hello” they look at you as if you are mentally unstable. How is this problem ever going to be solved? The answer is we need a new leader, His name is Donald J Trump.
As of January of 2017, America is under new management. Donald J Trump, a businessman and reality television host, is the 45th President of the United States of America. In his inauguration speech, he reiterated the point of “America First!”, hailing back to the platform he ran on during the election against Hillary Rodham Clinton. His campaign was focused on anti-immigrant rhetoric, targeting non-American Muslims and Mexicans. He insists upon building a wall across our southern border and making Mexico pay for it. He criticizes trade with China, and believes that American companies need to be manufacturing their products at home instead of abroad. A president cannot govern by rhetoric, but according to a study held by White House advisor and
In the beginning of the speech, Donald trump talks negative about the U.S Trade Policies. Donald Trump mentions that it would wipe out American manufacturing jobs. Throughout the speech, he tells the audience that Clinton supports free trade agreements. Trump argues that nothing is to change under Clinton presidency. He is arguing that the U.S is suffering from this trade. He wants to raise certain tariffs on China and Mexico up to 35%.
Social media gives users the opportunity to build an online persona through posting of content such as text, images, links or through interaction with others. The way in which users present themselves is a type of behavior usually determined by differences in demographic or psychologic traits. Aristotle defines ethos as the charisma and the credibility of a speaker. When it comes to Mr. Trump, the main argument in favor of his credibility and reputation is his image of the businessman who managed to build the tremendous real-estate empire. President Donald Trump uses Twitter to break news, share his views and feud with critics and celebrities at all times of day or night. It can be hard to keep up — below are some of his noteworthy tweets since he became president.
That this actical of the week is about is A Republican newspaper is not suppering Donald Trump and supporting Hillary Clinton. What I think about all of this is that if you are a newspaper that is just post to write about one party you can't just switch over to supporting another party that is just not right. Because that new paper does not like Donald Trump does not give the right to write about the democrat party. When they are post to write about the republican party and they write about the other party not then party they are post to.All of the controversy between Hillary Clinton emails and Donald Trump sex abuse charges. I think that the newspaper should not be covering neither of the conduits because both are not fit for the president's
“‘There should be no bitterness or hate where the sole thought is the welfare of the United States of America. No man can occupy the office of President without realizing that he is President of all the people’ ― Franklin D. Roosevelt” (Goodreads). Franklin Roosevelt declares here that the President of the United States should display extreme professionalism as a result of how they are elected to represent and serve the citizens of America. Then, it can be implied from this quote that the president should not overwhelmingly voice his own opinion, especially by being negative and targeting others. Meaning, the president should put the interests of the people before his own wants or opinions. How can the president achieve this in the age
Donald Trump’s speech addressed to the United Nations General Assembly on September 19, 2017 was not effective. Despite the speech having a universal message that is hard to disagree with, you can tell exactly which parts of the speech were written by a speech writer, and which parts of the speech were written by Trump himself. This wouldn’t be an issue if Donald Trump’s inflections weren’t full of fallacies and unnecessary statistics. For example, in the third paragraph, President Trump tries to establish his Ethos by listing improvements in the United States since he took office. But many of these cherry-picked improvements have absolutely nothing to do with him being elected. They also have nothing to do with the general theme of the speech. This speech did have examples of effective rhetorical strategies. However, the bad far outweighs the good in this speech and takes away from the good message it originally had.
