Many influential people including Muhammad Ali and Malala Yousafazi, who stated that Trump’s proposals are “full of hatred”[4].
This example of racism is similar to the ones presented in To Kill A Mockingbird, as many people in Maycomb hold prejudices against people of a different colour just as Trump and his supporters do. There are also those in Maycomb who disagree with the ideas of racism present in the town, such as Atticus and Jem, just as there are those such as Malala and Ali who disagree with Trump’s plan to deport Muslims.
Trump’s ruthless policies involving the denial of Muslims into America is extreme and similar to the extreme ideas presented in To Kill A Mockingbird. Trump believes that all one type of people do is cause trouble, and he associates many prejudices with them, similarly, many in Maycomb believe that one type of people only cause trouble, and are always at fault whenever something bad happens in the town. If Trump’s ideas become a reality, then we could easily be living in a society very similar to Maycomb county, with racism being constant and the few who believe in an equal society being unable to do anything to change
Racism is evidence of prejudice in all aspects of Maycomb’s society. Racism was huge during this time. Racism is still a problem in this world today but it is much better than it used to be. People used to be much worse, for example, Tom pretty much lost the trial because he was a black person. A quote I have is, “Guilty… guilty… guilty… guilty... “ (Lee 215). This quote shows that they really had no doubt he was going to be proven guilty because he was black. If he was white he would have won the trial. Also to add on, there were no blacks on jury. Obviously there is racism there. Another example of racism in this book is, that during the trial, the blacks were not allowed to sit downstairs. They all had to sit upstairs and cram up there to watch the trial.
Some Americans may argue that restrictions are placed to protect them from certain religious states which contain terrorist groups. Past terrorist attacks in this country has left deep impacts, one of the many resulted in approximently 3,000 people dead. It has been shown that the largest numbers of deaths within the United States are caused by violent extremism (Bracken). Recently, Donald J. Trump a former business man who just this year became the 45th president of the United States, has raised more awareness to this issue. In his attempts to keep America safe he proposed and passed a ban on foreign terrorist entry. Trump states "I therefore direct that the entry into the United States of nationals of those six countries be suspended for 90 days from the effective date of this order, subject to the limitations, waivers, and exceptions set forth in sections 3 and 12 of this order." This dilemma raised negative concerns and thoughts about many who once lived in the Islamic States that are being banned.
Donald Trump has suggested a “total and complete shutdown” of Muslims entering the U.S. While ISIS
President Trump recently signed an executive order that restricts entry from seven Muslim majority countries into the United States. Trump’s immigration policy bans the entry of refugees into the United States for 120 days and heightens additional screening to make sure that they do not pose a threat to the security of the U.S. The order also indefinitely restricts the entrance of Syrian refugees and restricts travelers that come from seven predominantly Muslim countries including Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen entry into the United States for 90 days (Shear, Michael). This order would affect over 20,000 refugees, thousands of students nationwide, and hundreds
During the Great Depression, racism was a common practice in the southern states of the US. Negros and those who opposed the intolerance were often discriminated by the rest of the bias and ignorant society, who believed in white supremacy and superiority over the other races. Maycomb, a racist town, exemplify this discrimination, imperiously judging others they view as being dissimilar from themselves. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, the author, weaves a brilliant story of prejudice, discrimination, and racism shown through the novel’s several characters and events, producing a mirror reflection of America’s racist society in the 1930’s.
“Why do I say this?” one may ask. Well, the issues of national security and terrorism have been very critical problems in our nation in the past years, and much of this terrorism can be attributed to ISIS, a radical Islamist terrorist group. Unfortunately, a bigoted, hypocritical, egregious republican nominee named Donald Trump decided to propose a ban on all Muslims that enter our country. Even more distressing, however, is the fact that Donald Trump has nearly 50% of the nation’s support in his racist ideals and has inspired heated racism against the Muslim people in our own country, a country that is supposed to uphold morally-sound constitutional rights of freedom for every religion.
I. Newly inaugurated President Donald Trump has recently approved a ban involving the restriction of travel into the United States of immigrants from seven Muslim countries. Since this ban is only for up to 90 days, this is just the beginning of a potentially longer or even permanent ban. This is not the first time he has demonstrated the lack of regard with social equality.
The 2016 presidential campaign, was wrought with several controversial issues, none more so than the refugee crisis. Throughout the campaign, Donald Trump’s Anti-Muslim rhetoric, appeared to go against the American ideals of protecting religious freedoms. This trend continued into his presidency, he enacted Executive Order 13769 “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States”, banning immigrants and refugees from seven predominately Muslim countries. While, the President claims these measures were taken to prevent any future terrorist attacks on the United States, many question if the Order has more to do with instilling a ban on Islam. Yet, with the possibility of terrorists entering the United States, how can we
Back in 2015, Republican Party nominee Trump made his opinion known about his proposals to temporarily ban immigration in the United States. In a press release statement, Trump called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." I see what Trump reasoning is and I think it could be reasonable, but I believe it is still unconstitutional. The Seattle federal judge that suspended Trump’s order, Gordon, states that “the court concludes that the government’s reasons, as provided in the [executive order], are facially legitimate are bona fide but unconstitutional.” I am somewhat in agreement about the ban being reasonable, but you can not say that people from a religion are considered “terrorist” or associate a religion with “terrorist” or terrorism, which Trump is doing. However, although he has a good reasoning it is not enough, because a good purpose doesn’t make anything
Racism has been a big part of the human race ever since people were born. In To Kill a Mockingbird, the townspeople of Maycomb, Alabama misjudge the African-Americans of their town. They treat them like trash, and some people even think they are just filthy beings. Clearly, then, racism has had many ubiquitous effects on many of Maycomb's citizens.
In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird racism was a problem in Maycomb. Atticus quoted, “There’s something in our world that makes men lose their heads—they couldn’t be fair if they tried. In our courts, when it’s a white man’s word against a black man’s, the white man always wins. They’re ugly, but those are the facts of life.” “Lee #224)
Trump wants to enforce our immigration laws-to build a wall and end sanctuaires cities, which he calls crap and says they need to be stopped. Stop and end all of it, if they want to come to the U.S, they need to come legally. Welcome those who embrace our way of life, but keep out immigrants and refugees who don’t through rigorous vetting. Trump thinks they are bringing drugs, crime, rapists and problems for us.
On January 20th, 2017, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated and became the official 45th President of the United States. A mere seven days later, and the country is already tearing at the seams. January 27th, 2017 marks the day that the world stopped spinning for a multitude Muslim immigrants. It marks the day that the immigration ban was signed, prohibiting citizens from seven countries of a large Islamic populace (Yemen, Sudan, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Somalia, and Libya) from entering America for a period of 90 days.On top of that, the U.S. refugee program was suspended for an extra 30 days in hopes of preventing terrorists from entering the country. This ban will be detrimental to not only America’s
All around the book it's seen that Maycomb was a place filled with racist people that discriminize the African american minority
Many students athletes put blood, sweat, and tears in their work and in the game they love to play. College athletes have too much on the line at all time of their college careers. With all the pressure from exams and from the tough games, and trying to manage the balance of school and sports so one does not take over the other. That in itself is full time job without the pay. Student athletes have too much on the line when it comes to school exams, staying on top of their grades, getting their school work done on time, going to practice, and playing games late at night or early on the weekends and repeating that over and over again throughout the school year, it's more than a job it’s a hassle for the college athletes. Image trying to squeeze a part time job or full time job to get some money, it is impossible. Student athletes need compensation, rewards or benefits with being a full time student athlete and managing everything from school and sports at a high stake and doing it well.
