There are numerous stores that fall into this category around the United States including a west coast competitor 99 Cents Only stores that has continued to grow. Until the Dollar Tree fully determines the ongoing plan for its traditional stores and the recent acquired Family Dollar locations, I believe that the Dollar Tree now operates in two separate groups one above the $1.00 threshold and one below. The traditional Dollar Tree stores have begun to lose profits as emphasis on cost reductions have been overshadowed by the acquisition. As of right now, it does not appear to be determined if the Dollar Tree will continue to operate in each of the segment groups of if future alignment is
The dollar store customer is a complex individual. According to Businessweek, through the use of a product which tracks where consumers shop, those who frequent the dollar store are not necessarily who you think they are. This study showed that individuals who shopped at ‘true’ dollar stores were the same ones who frequented other outlets including Trader Joe’s, Panera Bread, and
On the website that I found this article there was a chart comparing dollar stores to grocery stores, convenient stores, drug stores, supermarkets warehouse clubs, and mass merchandisers. This chart shows that the dollar stores have the highest percentage rating for being convenient to their customers. One of the major reasons for this is because there are so many dollar stores. There are probably several located near your home or work place. Another reason is from the changes that I mentioned earlier. They are becoming more of a one stop store with all of the products you need, instead of just a dollar
First established in 1910 as Rossy stores in Montreal, the current CEO, Larry Rossy transformed his family's chain of variety stores into one of Canada's most successful retailers. The strategy behind Dollarama's success in its transition from a family business into a corporation is as follows: adopt a fixed price point dollar store concept. The Canadian owned brand has capitalized on this price-point retail model and has performed exceptionally well over the decades it has been in business. This has been recognized as a standout performance in the Canadian retail sector that has decimated in the big-box era as we saw with Zellers and Sears. Annual sales have surged by more than half over the past five years to $1.5 billion, and Dollarama's

The memoir that I am reading currently is I Will Always Write Back: How One Letter Changed Two Lives by Caitlin Alifrenka, Martin Ganda and Liz Welch. The two main characters in the book are Caitlin and Martin but what's so special about them is that they are pen pals. If she did not think Zimbabwe sounded cool to her in seventh grade she would have never met him. Through the course of the book, both the characters find themselves so grateful that they have found each other but what connects both characters together is how they each live a different lifestyle. For instance, Catlin writes about what she does after the first letter was sent: “I continued on with my life, which in seventh grade consisted of spending a lot of time obsessing about how I look: I changed outfits several times every morning before settling on one” (Alifirenka 24).

Family Dollar has a big competitive advantage over supermarkets and box stores. The same products that the supermarkets and box stores carry, Family Dollar sells to its customers for a cheaper price. Family Dollar stores are conveniently located in your local neighborhoods within walking or a short driving distance. Most supermarkets and box stores you have to fight with crowds and parking in a larger shopping district. Family dollar not only sells food and health and beauty products but they also have clothing for the family. This is something that supermarkets do not carry. Some box stores do carry clothing products but not with the convenience that Family
