Differences in each individual is what makes each of us unique in some way. Throughout my life I have seen and met different types of individuals from different walks of life. Their paths may have differed from mine, but that never changed my perspective of respect towards others. Diversity influences us to join as one, although we may not have the same views. Although some opinions may differ, diversity has signifies a variety of different races, cultures, religion, beliefs etc to exist. It has simply impacted my life in several ways and I’m sure the world as well. Even Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. himself helped fight for the rights of diversity in his time on earth. If our country engaged in diversity knowledge and equal respect towards the difference in others, the world would be a much safer place.
Growing up as an African american male in the urban environment of North Carolina, you could say that diversity wasn’t valued as much as it is today. Especially, if this time period took place back in the 70’s. Facing stereotypes, racism and prejudice multiple times, it never once hardened my heart. Imagine a society where we’re all on the same page and respected the difference in others. The world would be more united and possibly safe if we could grasp the concept of mutual respect in different individuals. My concern for the world in reference to diversity and the opposers who have the upper hand of hierarchy. We see it in the media, hear it on the radio and in music, how certain hate crimes have divided us in our goal towards diversity. Author of “Violence and Police Diversity: A Call for Research” Mary D. Fan states in her article that
