Diversity In America

The 20th century was a period of profound changes in the United States. It was marked by significant demographic shifts, cultural transformations, and social movements that shaped the country into a diverse mosaic. From the influx of immigrants to the civil rights struggles, diversity was a defining characteristic of American society during this time. This essay examines how diversity manifested itself in various forms throughout the 20th century and its impact on the nation. At the beginning of the century, the United States was already a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities.

 I honestly don't understand why there is so much hatred toward immigrants when this country is only made out of immigrants. All we do is try to shame other people ethics background to try to feel superior when all we are doing is showing the lack of respect. People like this are being the disgrace of this country. We should be proud of the diversity we have and learn to respect one another. At the end of the day this world we live in is not ours because we are born to die. Might as well do positive changes in the world we live in while we live and not start with all this evil hate and disrespect. At the end we are all humans and children's of God. "As a Texan, I have known many immigrant's families, mainly from Mexico, and I've seen what they add to our country. Bush, said these enhancing words and it now concerns me in this day of time. That now the world wants to imprison the Hispanic culture all for varies stereotypes. The information that I have learned about diversity in the United States of America has helped me better understand and relate to others in many ways. The world is full of different people and ethnicity, race, creative individuals. Each race has issues to deal with rather it be prejudice and racism. In the United States, we are going through a tough transition period. We are moving on from old energy to new energy and from conservative traditions to new ones. It is good to know that many in the country acknowledge the times with a belief of an inclusive America. In the same fashion, some celebrities speak out about racial issues that continue to divide out country as they fight for equality for all races. Our country is there yet, but individuals with huge platforms who use it to speak in favor of diversity, it can help our country get to that point. An influential figure can convince countless people to become more accepting of the changing country that becomes better for all Americans.

Throughout the United States, cultural diversity is increasing each day. Cultural diversity consists of the traditions, beliefs, values, languages, customs, and other various factors that identifies with individuals, as well as the groups they belong to. When it comes to conceptualizing cultural diversity, there are three different models that were used historically when it comes to “dealing with” cultural diversity. These three models include assimilation, pluralism, and multiculturalism.

The American racial and ethnic state is blurring, there are more mixed races, now more than ever. With all the different races and ethnicities popping up, and forming in America, it is hard to decipher cultural rights and wrongs. America started out as a majority white nation, about eighty-seven percent (“America's Racial and Ethnic Minorities.”), with the nonwhite minority containing predominantly blacks in southern rural areas. Today, the population is made up of whites, African Americans, Asians, Native Americans, Arabs, Jews and much more. The diversity in America is much greater than any other country.

“America is the number 1 nation in the world!” is a common phrase we hear time and time again. American citizens, in my opinion, have a distorted view on how “awesome” our country is. America was founded on the idea of freedom – at least freedom for white men at the time. While we have grown and made bounds for the rights of minorities like African Americans, Hispanics and women; there is still room to grow. So many of our citizens feel disenfranchised by our government and that our implemented democracy doesn’t grant them the same rights as others. This is usually a feeling felt by those in minority groups. Many in the majority don’t realize that there are these discrepancies in our democracy because it’s not something that affects them. That is one of the obstacles, many turn a blind-eye to the injustices they see within our democracy because they do not want to get involved or they want the status quo to stay intact. The majority’s desire to stay on-top in our country is a huge influence in how those in the minority then view their abilities. Many minority members feel hopeless and that despite speaking up a power shift to equality will never be attainable. There is a profound lack of representation of minority groups in offices of power. As discussed in this class, there have only even been eight African American US Senators, and only two currently in the Senate now.
