Diversity is normally thought of on the surface level. The general population usually takes into account physical/demographic characteristics as indicators of diversity. People tend to focus on aspects like gender or skin color, which limits and narrows the definition of diversity. This causes neglecting to include other external dimensions like recreational habits, educational background, etc. In the book, diversity is examined by various scholars, all of whom perceive its definition in different ways. Both interviewers were about 22,500 income. The two interviewers really wanted to tell people that have low income does not imply laziness. Zachary Villaruz talked about two of his friends that made under 20,000. One of these interviewers wanted to explain that without money it’s hard to look for affordable alternatives for life essentials. After listening to these presentations concerning income, I now realize that the idea of financial security is only a myth. Each individual, from every income level, described feeling a lack of financial security. A person’s income level is never guaranteed. They must work hard to maintain or sustain their quality of life. It seems as education can play a key role in obtaining a higher income. The topic of education was divided into several subtopics: four year degree, doctorate, and less than high school. Betty Garcia talked to two people that had their degrees. One got their degree quick and fast while the other had kids and went to work while getting their degree. Christopher Harmening showed us the lives of two people that only have high school diplomas. Both people seem to have worked a lot of hours to maintain their living style. The interviewers said it’s really tough to find a high paying job without any higher level education. It is even more realistic that when this is the case lack of education impairs your chances of gaining ground beyond that of poverty. About 34% of unemployed people never got a high school diploma compared to the 6% of unemployed people who have attained a bachelor's degree (U.S. Census Bureau). These unemployed individuals never got the education needed to hold a middle-class worthy job so they live in poverty. By looking at data we have found through our research it seems as if the higher your level of schooling, reaching anywhere from a high school diploma to a phD, generally leads to a higher average income. In an online article posted on dailyedventures, a close look is taken at five different segments which include, high school diploma or GED, high school diploma, training in vocational schools or associates degree, bachelors degree, and lastly a graduate degree, and specific occupations within those segments.
