Divergent is a great coming of age novel because the protagonist undergoes a transformative change of character. In Divergent the main character Beatrice, whose name means voyageur, goes on a journey that changes not only her name, but her social standing, physical and psychological well being as well. The story begins with Beatrice being a member of the Abnegation faction. The Abnegation faction values selflessness above all other virtues, and Beatrice has been raised to put others before herself. Although her faction is a tight-knit community brought together by their humanitarian ways, she is very introverted and withdrawn. When she “looks at the Abnegation lifestyle as an outsider, [she] thinks it's beautiful. It's only when [she tries] to live it [herself] that [she has] trouble. It never feels genuine” (Roth 36). She doesn’t feel she belongs there and feels guilty for having selfish tendencies. When Tris chooses to switch from Abnegation to Dauntless, she begins to become more social. She becomes friends with Christina, another initiate, and states that she has not “really had a friend before, period. It's impossible to have real friendship when no one feels like they can accept help or even talk about themselves. That won't happen here. I already know more about Christina than I ever knew about Susan, and it's only been two days” ( ). She is starting to step outside of her comfort zone and is making more connections with the new people she encounters than people
“One choice decides your friends. One choice defines your beliefs. One choice determines your loyalties-forever. One choice transforms you,” (Roth, back cover) What do you choose? Well, for Beatrice, the main character in Divergent, it is not an easy choice. Set in a futuristic Chicago, Beatrice is faced with an internal conflict; what faction should she choose? She and her brother, Caleb have a hard time deciding, but Beatrice chooses Dauntless despite what her father wants her to choose. In Dauntless she starts the initiation process that is full of physical and mental training that includes fights and simulations. Along the way she finds and loses friends and enemies. Divergent by Veronica Roth is a thrilling book due to the intense conflict/
In this fictional world, the Divergent book and the movie are very similar, yet different in some aspects. Divergent takes place in a society that is split into five factions, all with different values. The five factions are the Erudite, who value intelligence, the Abnegation, who value selflessness, the Dauntless, who value bravery, the Amity, who value peace, and the Candor, who value honesty. At the age of sixteen, you will be forced to decide the rest of your life at the Choosing Ceremony. There, you may stay with the faction you were born into, or transfer. The main character, Beatrice, or Tris, was a faction transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, and was looked down upon by her father and old faction for doing so. The book and movie share
When learning information about important facts, dates, and the influential people who made up U.S. history, I do not remember learning much of anything regarding the Irish, Chinese, or Japanese. Well, except for Pearl Harbor and the U.S. retaliating against Japan by dropping atomic bombs. I definitely learned that people from around the world immigrated by boat across vast amounts of ocean for a chance to thrive in the land of freedom called America. I learned that millions of people entered through Ellis Island in the late nineteenth century, looking upon the Statue of Liberty, in hopes of finding their right to life, liberty, and happiness. I learned that the majority of these people were stricken of their identities and provided new American names that were easier to pronounce. I did not however, learn about the great discrimination and hardship that these people suffered at the hands of white Americans. The major theme presented is labor discrimination, unequal and unfair pay, long hours, and harsh working and living environments in regards to the Mexican Americans, Chinese, and Japanese. Takaki (2008) paints a vivid picture of discrimination and suffering of the people known as the “others” living and working in the multicultural “melting pot” United States, in his book A Different Mirror: A History of Multicultural America.
While implementing Primary Health Care models, identical to those in metropolitan areas, in a rural setting is not practical, I feel there is an obvious need to improve primary health care in remote areas. This is due to the significant health gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, in rural and remote areas

The past two weeks of dissection have been very valuable learning opportunities and extremely enjoyable. Dr Molyneux and the demonstrators were so helpful and caring; I felt they truly made a difference to how much I understood from this dissection experience. As well as this, I feel very privileged to have been given this opportunity to dissect a human body and would like to thank the individual who kindly donated their body for this purpose.

During Williams S. Lawler’s eighth grade school year at Newport Middle School, I had the pleasure working with him in our social studies class which consisted of North Carolina History as well as incorporating US History. Throughout the course of study all elements of social studies were intertwined through our course of study. William excelled on all areas, but particularly with his major interests in the areas of civics/government, culture, and economic/financial literacy.

The reflection this week asks us how we would differentiate instruction for writing a research paper in our relative area of interest. Specifically speaking, the reflection asks for two specific differentiated learning tasks. One of the activities must involve a tired activity, while the other can utilize any of the strategies suggested in the lesson. For this particular reflection, I will focus my attention on an early middle school level activity to differentiate on writing a research paper.
This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.
Over a year ago, I was diagnosed with a mental illness called bipolar disorder. It wasn’t as much as a shock when they explained it to me, for I always had that slight suspicion that I might be bipolar. Although the condition has always been there with me, the symptoms were more apparent to me after that day. This condition has made it really hard for me to function in school and at home. For a while now, I’ve let it completely take me over because I didn’t want to bother fighting something that felt stronger than me. I don’t think people truly understand how this affects me. Especially my parents, they’d refuse to accept that I have bipolar disorder. Trust me, I wouldn’t want it either but it isn’t something I can ignore. For years, I’ve made various attempts at guiding my parent’s attention to this. What finally made them realize how serious this was to me was my art. Art has helped me through a lot ever since I started getting depressed, so I see it fit to make my concept based on I feel.
Prosocial behavior is important to psychologists because it is a significant part of development in a child. Children learn prosocial behavior from many influences in their lives including parents, peers, teachers, caregivers, and the media (Williams, O’Driscoll, & Moore, 2014). Prosocial behavior is any action intended to help others. Children learn their earliest behaviors from their parents. If a child never participated in prosocial behavior, there would be negative impacts. Some negative impacts could include: less likelihood to develop a sense of gratitude, less involvement with others, and Imitating their parent’s actions plays a crucial role in their social interactions throughout the child’s
