Disney; although they have made some great strides they tend to fall back into their old habits quite easily. Some may say that modern Disney has become progressive however; there are many others who would beg to differ. In today's modern age we cannot talk about Disney without mentioning Frozen. Frozen came out in 2013 and is loosely based off the 1844 tale The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. The film focuses on sisterly love which is unusual for a Disney films. More often than not Disney films follow a strict outline and have key elements which can be traced in every film. For instance, the prince saves the damsel in distress and there is usually a goofy animal sidekick as well as, comedic music to develop the characters personality and emotions.
Frozen broke free from the Disney and societal conventions in many ways. For example, as I stated earlier the main theme of the film was sisterly love; in fact the plot of the film is not resolved by true loves kiss like most Princess movies, such as, the modern Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. The act of true love is expressed by Elsa towards her sister Ana when she is freezing to death. Not once are they seen cooking, cleaning or sewing. However they are shown changing outfits when they have reached a certain milestone in the film. For example, when Elsa is finally free and can be herself she changes her outfit and her hair. The men are normally seen as saviours in these movies but, in this particular film Kristoff is not the saviour he is the sidekick and the viewer is shown character development. For instance, Kristoff we know he was adopted, we know his job and his personality and character is significantly more developed than most Disney males and we know Haans is the youngest of 13
