Type 1: Mass communication
Mass communication is the method of conveying message using online resource such as email, newspaper and memos. It is considered as a cost-effective medium since it allows all the participate to receive the information with least cost. However, the disadvantages of this method are it is not personal as the employee might ignore the message to get the information. There is no feedback for the implementation of the method.
Type 2: Interactive Communication
This method requires feedback from the reader for interaction purpose. For example, the mediums for interactive communication are email for Q &A pages, online chats and online discussion. Employees can ask questions using anonymous identity and this facilitates a two-way communication where both parties can receive the information needed. The few disadvantages are it is very time-consuming and ineffective to spread the information as the first method.
Type 3: Face to face communication
Face to face communication such as meetings, training session and forum allows the employees to receive valuable information directly from in-charge person such as managers. Similar to type 2, it is also very time-consuming and ineffective to spread the news to a large population in a shorter time and lowest cost.
A communication strategy is developed as below to ensure that all staff work as a team towards achieving goals organisational objectives.
1. Get all the employee involved by holding meeting and conducting annual employee survey.
2. Make employee updated by sending weekly email on company progress to each of them.
3. Keep the message to be transferred simple such as company notice and management arrangement to make it effective as all the staff can easily understand and work towards it
4. Expose the complicated message to managers first then provide them with easy-to-implement formats for bringing their teams together, with toolkits that include all the materials they’ll need. This can encourage their teams to develop
