The article discusses an impressive topic pertaining to “dinasours were endhoterms” and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that dinasours were not endhoterms and opposes each of the author’s reasons. First, the argument stated in the article readily assumes that dinasours fossils are located in the polar regions and this is the evidence to determine that dinasours were endhoterm. In contrast, the professor provides information that these polar regions were much warmer than today. In addition, she states that when the climate was so cold in these regions, dinasours were migrating or hibernating. That’s why we can not easily assume that dinasours were endhoterms. Second, the article pushes forth the idea that there
The author and his colleagues specifically chose to focus on 375 million year old rocks in their search for fossils because this was the time frame that provided fish that would be useful to study from. The 385 million year old rocks provided fish that look too similar to the ones we have now and the 365 million year old rocks have fossils that don’t resemble fish. The 375 million year old rocks, however, provide fossils that show the transition between fish and land living animals.
After the reading of this book “The Road Past Altamont”, there are many various themes which can be related to it. A relevant and related theme of the book can be the evolution
The ancient Aztec civilization is usually thought of as a barbaric, unintelligent people throughout modern society. This could be an ideal carried down from the Spaniards that concord the native lands or even something as simple as today’s society creating overblown stereotypes because of conjoined lack of understanding and overall knowledge. But, because of the extensive research and studies done by Miguel León-Portilla we are able to discover the true nature of the Aztec peoples way of life. Within the book “Aztec Thought and Culture” the author explains the develop of the Aztec civilization through education and philosophy as well as describing the Aztec people as an advanced society rather than the popular belief of a savage people and culture.
The reading passage proposes three theories which support the idea that a dinosaur which is called edmontosaurus survived in the winter by migrating to the south, the more hospitable region than the extremely cold in the North Slope. However, the professor in the listening respectively contradicts each theory in the reading passage by using strong evidence as support.
Three thousand years ago, the Kingdom of Antiquistan was formed when King Antiquate the Mighty persuaded warlords from neighboring regions to swear fealty in return for taxes and troops. Although the Antiquistanians left no written records and few material artifacts of their own, some indication of their way of life, belief system, political structure, values and others aspects of their lives can be discerned from accounts of these people contained in the historical record. To this end, this paper provides a review and discussion concerning the Kingdom of Antiquistan, including its geographical boundaries, topographical information, estimated population and primary belief system. A description of the political structure of the kingdom is followed by an analysis of their artistic elements and influences, as well as what educational requirements and structure existed. Finally, an assessment of the values that were practiced in the social and public spheres in the Kingdom of Antiquistan is followed by a summary of the research and important findings about the kingdom in the conclusion.
The author and his colleagues chose to focus on 375 million year old rocks in their search for fossils because amphibians that look dissimilar to fish were discovered in 365 million year old rocks, while fish without amphibian characteristics were discovered in 385 million year old rocks. Thus, it is possible that the evolutionary intermediary, or the “missing link” between fish and amphibians, would be discovered in 375 million year old rocks, between the two time periods. The rocks examined were sedimentary in composition, as the gradual and relatively gentle formation of sedimentary rock under conditions of mild pressure and low heat are conducive to the fossilization of animal remains. Sedimentary rock is also often formed in rivers and seas, where animals are likely to live. This site provides a resource that describes means by which fossils are formed and how the fossil record may be interpreted, and shows some examples of fossils demonstrating evolution through geological periods: http://www.fossilmuseum.net/fossilrecord.htm. In 2004, Shubin and his colleagues were looking for fossils on Ellesmere Island, in northern Canada. This location was chosen because of its lack of human development, as well as of obstructing natural formations and life forms such as trees, which
Because Schreffler is arguing that Díaz, López de Gómara, Solís and González created a misconstrued view of Aztec painting, imagery is a vital component of this essay. The visuals strengthen his argument by giving viewers a clear sense of the difference between typical Aztec panting and the painting that the accounts describe. For example, Schreffler includes two images of paintings done by the
Tom Robinson’s trial is coming. Atticus is getting more fuss from the townspeople than ever before and he is trying to get the truth to come out. Atticus is representing tom Robinson who is a friend of Cal’s and was put in jail for rape. Atticus is called a “nigger-lover’ by parents and kids in Maycomb. In this passage Atticus is telling Link that he believes that the truth will come out. This passage connects to the theme of ethics and morals because Atticus has his views on what will happen on this trial and trust that Tom did not do anything wrong. He will represent him proudly during the final trial.
Disregarding the feathers of Longisquama, and therefore disregarding its link to Archaeopteryx, these scientists still fully support the dinosaur-bird link. As mentioned before, the extreme majority of paleontologists still subscribe to this idea. A recent discovery in the western region of China seems to clarify the link between dinosaurs and birds. Living at roughly the same time as Archaeopteryx, Sinovenator changii is very closely related to the bird yet is classified as a dinosaur.5
In this paper i have tried to point out the main similarities and differences between the two chapters named Calypso.
“A minority disputes this theory, arguing that other events-such as volcanic eruptions, sea-level changes or a series of impacts-were to blame for the spectacular loss of species that occurred at the transition between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods…”
The origin of modern day whales, a mystery that has puzzled paleontologists for years, may have just been solved with the discovery of an ankle bone. This discovery might sound simple and unimportant, but the bones of these ancient animals hold many unanswered questions and provide solid proof of origin and behavior. The relationship between whales and other animals has proven to be difficult because whales are warm-blooded, like humans, yet they live in the sea. The fact that they are warm-blooded suggests that they are related to some type of land animal. However, the questions of exactly which animal, and how whales evolved from land to water, have remained unanswered until now.
Small businesses in America have existed since civilizations first settled, whether people traded goods in the place of currency, or offered services and talents for money. Over the past 100 years, the small businesses and entrepreneurs of America have evolved in ways no one could have predicted. From the invention of the internet to the sliding scale that is the American economy, small businesses have seen their times of great success and struggle alike. With the changing culture, obstacles may morph into opportunities, and, conversely, opportunities can be turned into obstacles. Small businesses today have the opportunity to use social media as a marketing tool, but have the obstacle of demand; small businesses in the early 20th century had the opportunity of demand, but had the obstacle of little marketing resources; and small businesses of both time periods had the common obstacle of economic fluctuations.
Just a few weeks ago, it has come to my attention through a study conducted at Copenhagen University Hospital Gentofte led by Cardiology Professor, Gunnar Gislason. Through the study, it has been discovered that common painkillers, such as ibuprofen (Motrin), gives the person an increased risk of cardiac arrest by 31%. It was found that Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) have been linked with it as well and the most common is ibuprofen. Gislason says to only take ibuprofen when it is absolutely necessary, be cautious when using it, and to never take more than 1,200 mg a day. Previous studies have shown that NSAIDs are related to the cardiovascular risk. “Naproxen is probably the safest NSAID, and we take up to
During the middle to late Eocene and into the Oligocene epoch several other members of the equids, with distinct evolutionary changes, existed including the Orohippus, Epihippus, Mesohippus, and Miohippus. The Orohippus developed from the Hyracotherium and shared many of the same traits. One major change was that the first and second toes disappeared. Another significant change occurred in the teeth. The last premolar changed to become like a grinding molar. Also the crests were more defined showing that the Orohippus’s diet had changed to a tougher plant material. During the middle Eocene a descendant of Orohippus appeared. The Epihippus still resembled a dog-like animal. It had four padded toes on the front leg, and three on the back leg. However, the teeth changed more drastically with two of the premolars changing to grinding molars. Now there were five grinding cheek teeth with low crowns. As
