I chose the “mobile phone for my “ Different Drummer” project. Recently obtaining one for myself I am surprised how quickly I adjusted to our norms of society today, in fact I was a bit disgusted. I wanted to learn why we have changed this much and how. I wanted to learn where we were before this time period where nearly everyone can be contacted anywhere just through radio and digital signals. In the “older days” cell phones or mobile phones were as big as half a foot long and one fourth of a foot wide. Cell phones back then were also very scarce whereas, today nearly every adult teenager and some children have them. So how did we go from scarcity to abundance in such a short amount of time? The mobile phone has caused so much change in this
I would like to start by saying I would like to say that being the drum major for our marching band would be an absolute honor. Being Drum Major is one of the most important jobs during this wonderful season and would need to be under great care - which I think I’m capable of. This position is one that I’ve cared about since I first stepped out onto the marching field. I’ve always been inspired to be a leader and to endure the heavy, yet rewarding responsibility. So, what leadership would I bring to the field if I were selected as Drum Major? If I were selected, I would lead by setting an example, yet staying humble, and charismatic.
I want to try to my best capability to help and further the potential of this band. Even though we are losing many great seniors this year- we can still pursue greater things. I have nearly been on leadership before and I understand the values and expectations that have already been set. I enjoy working alongside all the fellow students here in the band and can’t wait for next marching season!
The modern day drum set has various parts to it. You have the drums, which include the: bass drum, snare drum, rack tom or toms, and floor tom or toms. Then you have the cymbals. There are eight different types of cymbals that can go into a drum set. They are the hi-hats, the ride cymbal, the crash cymbal, the crash-ride cymbal, the china cymbal, the splash cymbal, the effects cymbal, and the bell. Each of these cymbals give off many different sounds. The most important part of your drum set is your cymbals because they are the voice. The drums only make one sound when you hit them. Each cymbal can produce countless sounds. The most important of these cymbals are the hi-hats. They are an essential part to any modern day genre of music. The
Before the 80s, most Americans could not imagine someone walking around talking to him or herself toward a portable cell phone. Anyone to even believed walking around talking to someone across the nation was crazy. Rich Ling, a mobile communication major explains in his book, The Mobile Connection: The Cell Phone’s Impact on Society about his experience in the generation of 80s: “In my
Only a few short decades ago, the thought of nearly every person on the planet having a personal, cellular phone in their
Usually when people think of sports they usually think of Football, Baseball, Basketball, any sport that is widely broadcasted on television and sponsored around states and cities, and even countries; however, those are mainly the most popular sports. People interpret the word “sport” as a term that requires an abundance of endurance and energy, using physical and mental skills to further better themselves at said sport. There is a lot of controversy over whether high school marching band and drum corps is a sport, most people claiming that it doesn’t because it’s “elegant” and “more of a performance” still, aren’t all sports a performance? Coaches in most sports ask for the best and make a person work for their spot,
The evolution of drumming is quite an interesting story. Many occurrences have contributed to the changes the kit style of drumming. Traveling through time the drum has become a major part of any modern day band. Beginning with double drumming, into the invention of the double bass drumming, and ending with the invention of the modern drumstick.
Technology has advanced at a rapid rate over the past decade. We can now do things on the go, including social networking, shop, check email, not to mention, make a call. As technology develops, electronics get smaller and smaller. Over 10 years ago, cell phones were the size of (if not larger than) cordless house phones. We would only see them being carried by business men or lawyers. Now there are 8 year olds with blackberry’s. Cell phones are a huge part of most of our lives, But what effects have they had on American culture?
In the 1960s, talking on the cord phone with friends was unacceptable after a certain time at night. Yet, in the present day humans use phones and computers for practically every need. For example, apps like Uber and Lyft can be used for transportation. Also instead of opening a directory when you do not know what a word means, most people Google the
Cell phones have allowed everyone to have communication wherever they go. Special pant pockets and compartments for bags were made in the mid-nineties designed for a place to put a cell phone (The History of the Mobile Phone). Fashion isn’t the only thing that cell phones have changed; it affected commercials, movies and music. Commercials and movies have been changed because as time has gone on, more and more people have, or are interested in having a cell phone, so the cell phones show up in more and more movie and commercials (The History of the Mobile Phone). The face of music has been changed because now cell phones allow anyone to download music from anywhere instead of having to buy music at a store (The History of the Mobile Phone). Interactions from the crowds at concerts are different because instead of the crowds using lighters, now people can just pull out their
A drum solo is defined as being a instrumental solo played on the drum kit. A drum solo may be preconceived or improvised, and of any length. Rock solos often times have little to absolutely no accompaniment from the other band members and don't necessarily have to stick to the tempo, form or structure of the song. Jazz drum solos on the other hand, often trade fours (or eights or even twelves, in the case of blues) with other soloing instruments and will stick with the form and structure. The 1980's actually saw a decline in drummers recording drum solos because too many drummers had done a lot of solos on record, but that doesn't mean some of the best solos didn't come out in this decade. I put together a list that features 15 well known drum solos from the 1980's.
The drums are one of humanities oldest musical instrument and, like all instruments, the drums continue existing to this day as a method of communication. Previously drumming was often used as a social mediator, played to bring together the community and act as a vehicle in carrying messages and stories, alongside ceremonial use. However, within the last century, the drums have morphed radically into their current potential purpose and capabilities. Drifting from their roots as a vehicle for the community into its very own art, and modern drumming is undeniably an art, requiring immense dedication and devotion to actualise a drummer’s potential. Similar to other musical instruments as art forms, the drums allow for a high capacity to incorporate
Mobile phones can be seen to only start taking shape in 1996 but when they are introduced they soar above any other form of technology. They end up in 20098 to having 60 handsets per 1000 people which is a huge amount. This is due to the cheap costs that are present and they are affordable to the people which there low wages. Many companies such as Nokia have seen a mobile phone market available in developing countries and they cause a lot more people to get hold of them. The developing countries see how much of a difference they make to life and spread the word and soon a lot of people are in possession. Unlike landlines there is only one satellite dish that is needed and these can be place almost any where meaning they don’t take up a lot of time and money. The running costs are low as usually the spare parts may be made in the developing countries and easy ways of keeping them charged are available such as using the sun. The fact that many people have them makes business easier which attracts more people to have them making them very popular compared to the land line. It is the fact that they are very simple and cheap that there are so many being used in the developing world compared to the internet and land
Cell phones, as we know them haven’t been around for that long. The quick progression of the item and development has enormously influenced the regular daily existence in the general public eye today. It 's implementation has been genuinely quick considering that mobile phones were inexistent a quarter century ago. The first phone was made by Alexander Graham Bell. According to an article, ' 'This brought upon a major change in communication and gave leeway to the improvement of the telephone in the days to come ' '(Bellis, 2013b).
The first mobile phones, due to its “smaller” size, would still be considered very large in today’s world. Many of the early cell phones were considered “car phones” because they were shaped like a brick and could not fit into one's pocket. The first cell phone was called the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x and was commercially available in 1983. The cellular technology to call these phones was analog frequencies. In the early 2000’s, cell phones became smaller is size and the software got faster. The introduction of the Blackberry popularized the use of the technology allowing more and more people to be involved. Cell phones became popular with the introduction of text messaging, short messages that can be sent to another person. Texting has become an easier and quicker form of communicating with others. Teenagers and children grew to love this feature as a main form of communication. They took on this mainly because it is very private and did not have to be loud in a situation that was not appropriate. “Today’s teens will carry the technology with them as a part of their repertoire of communication possibilities. Where older generations, when
