In Beauty and the Beast, the storytellers use the small town and the evil figure with a good heart to show that we as humans tend to be judgmental and push away the people who are different from us without really knowing both sides to the story because we often jump to conclusions and assume that we’re right. In the movie, Belle and the Beast fall in love even though they are very different from each other. They looked passed their differences and what people would think of them.
In the beginning of the movie, there was a prince who was being selfish, so a witch put a spell on him and his castle. The prince turned into a beast and his castle turned into a gothic mansion. The castle archetype shows that there are two sides to a castle,

He was a good person, but he was angry with the world because of what happened to him. I think the beast would be an example of an evil figure with a good heart. He wouldn’t hurt anybody, no matter how mad he got at times. When Belle went back to the castle, the spell was broken because both Belle and the beast fell in love. The castle returned to the bright, happy, full of life self it was before. The sculptures that were meant to scare people away, turned into angels protecting the castle. The dark colors making up the castle turned bright, and the thorns turned into flowers. The beast, Mrs. Potts, Cogsworth, Lumiere, and all the other workers turned human again. The whole castle was happy again. I believe that the only reason why people were mean to the beast, was because they were afraid. The beast was different, and the people of the village think everybody should act the same. Since the beast looked and acted different, they judged him without getting to know him. I bet that now that the castle is back to how it was many years ago, and the beast turned into the prince he was before, that people will treat him with respect. The beast was mean because of the spell that was put on him. Nobody wanted to go into the castle because it was terrifying. The beast was lonely, and nobody wanted to be around him. People judged him and assumed that he was just a mean person, without understanding what really happened to him. He was a good person trapped in a beast’s body, which made him an evil figure with a good heart. If more people would have taken the time to understand the beast’s situation, I think they would have enjoyed the beast’s company. He was only cruel because people treated him like a
In the movie Beauty and the Beast, Beast, the protagonist, yells at Belle, the lead actress in the movie, because she walks into a restricted area. Belle gets terrified because of the rant by the Beast, and decides to run away from the castle, when she escapes the castle she finds some wolves outside the abandoned castle. The wolves attack Belle, when the Beast jumps in the way and rescues Belle, when he gets a slash, but manages to drive away the wolves. This was a sacrifice from the Beast, which got Belle to like him.
Seger states that in fairy tales "an old woman, a dwarf, a witch, or a wizard helps the hero . . . The hero achieves the goal because of this help, and because the hero is receptive to what this person has to give" (173). Conversely, Beast is helped by the very damsel he imprisons. Belle is a normal woman, not a witch or a wizard; she has no special powers and is not old or dwarfish in any way. Also, Beast is extremely reluctant to accept any help from her. In the Disney version of the story, Belle tries to teach Beast how to control his temper and be more compassionate and loving. Beast is not receptive at all to this help throughout the story, but still manages to defeat the curse left on him by a self revelation. He decides after Belle's departure from his castle to learn to love and be kindhearted. Although her help may have had an impact on his transformation, it was the mere presence of her and his own self conscience that ultimately helped him conquer his relentless curse. This is quite different from what Seger illustrates in her hero myth theory.
Referring back to fairytales like Beauty and the Beast film which involves the beast who magically got turned into a beast as a disciplining act because of his selfishness. Then a beautiful young women by the name of Belle, got imprisoned in the castle. The beast is very fond of Belle since he first laid eyes on her. During the movie Belle being the catalyst for the Beast’s need of wanting to change. But he distances himself from her because he has two mindsets. Which is a man and the other is a raging beast. These films have many characters that share characteristics along with the same role for their own films. First, there’s the Beast and Edward. They were the ones that everyone would look at and consider wicked; in reality people are just basing this off their looks. Even though the Beast started off being monstrous, Belle had changed him to be genuine to everyone. He hadn’t even done anything wrong when the villagers attacked. Gaston had only made them believe the Beast could do
Sometimes spending time alone, and away from the ordinary is the best form of emotional therapy. Moving onto Belle's costar, the Beast, viewers of the film cannot help but see the drastic character development which occurs. Right from the beginning, the Beast is spoken of very poorly, as a result of his self-righteous attitude toward the world. Due to his unkind behaviour, a witch casts a spell on him, which morphs him into his monstrous form. His human form would be his to hold again, as long as he could change his ways, and have someone fall in love with him. The Beast wastes no time in throwing a fit, and eventually disappears into despair; however, once Belle enters his life, the disgruntled prince makes an effort to change his ways, if only to earn her affections. Both Belle and the Beast learn from one another, which I think makes their relationship that much more meaningful. Not only do they fall in love, but they truly care for the development of one another, and are determined to change themselves for the better in order to be

Social hierarchies with obvious class divisions are a reoccurring theme that Disney attempts to portray through the use of imagery in the film The Beauty and the Beast (2017). The film illustrates a local village that is portrayed as an uneducated, working class that are trading various goods between each other. Gaston is a character within the film who is a desired hunter that seems to be at the top of the working-class hierarchy within the village. As the film progresses, Belle, a common female villager, is held captive within the beast’s castle and when her father tries to save her by explaining the situation to the village, Gaston denies his request and alienates her father from the village. Gaston uses bold statements such as, “I’ve heard of the effects of dark magic, but I’ve never before seen it with my own eyes!
Essay # 14 Name Brylee Holder Sometimes, people often compare themselves to a character from a book or a movie. If I were to compare myself to a character from a book or a movie, it would be Belle from Beauty and The Beast. I compare myself to her because, she was a country girl at heart, she had a bold independent spirit, and she had an admirable sense of adventure. Belle does not look anything like me, but her hobbies and personality is just like mine. First off, me and Belle compare because we are both country girls at heart.
In the story, the merchant stoll a rose from the Beast. Then the Beast said he will either kill the merchant, or have the merchant bring his daughter to the Beast. The merchant then agreed to give the Beast his daughter, Beauty. While living with the Beast, Beauty discovered he wasn’t as bad is she thought. Beauty’s perspective changed when she went to live with the beast.
Although Beast is mean and angry at the beginning of the story, he softens as his relationship with Beauty strengthens. Beast has a very sensitive side and Beauty brings out the very best in him as he falls more in love with her each day. Even Beast recognizes the changes taking place when he says “My heart is good, but still I am a monster” (Mayer 11). The last archetypal element is displayed in the orange color trees that are the first thing the characters notice when walking up to the Beast’s castle.
There are various types of men in this film that are considered well known and conceited, divergent but captivating or are just avoided based on their appearance. Firstly, there is the stereotypical antagonist Gaston, seen as a symbol of perfection by everyone in town. Belle, who he pursues, for her to become “his little wife”, however, is not interested because of his conceited and assertive behavior. Gaston’s mindset is similar to most of the men in society who still value the thought of forcing themselves upon a woman even after rejection to change the mind of the women so they will not feel ineffectual. Then there is the beast who is considered similar to the typical male gender. He was once a young prince who had everything he desired yet he was unkind and selfish which any gender would be based on their
Belle was kind to the Beast, and then she found her prince. It took courage to look into the eyes of someone that took away everything and see the good.
When the father enters the castle in the 1946 version, there are live-like arms that are holding candelabras and extending them when passed by. The candles light and extinguish themselves and there are hands that pour drinks and prepare food. The statues eyes follow you and smoke comes out of their noes and
Compare and Contrast the ways in which modern authors have re-imagined traditional narratives for their own purposes.
The first character to be discussed is Belle, in the original book. An author online even states “The original Beauty and the Beast Story is not what you expect” ( S. Paul). What is unique about Belle in the book is that she is the youngest of six children, which is never shown in the movie. Her father is not an inventor either, but is a very wealthy merchant who loses his fortune. The whole family in the original was forced to move to the country, where they had to live much more simple. Belle is a very special girl though, with very jealous older sisters of her beauty but also the fact that she is able to not be miserable in such a simple lifestyle.
