To many of those who watched the movie before reading the book, claimed that this movie was well directed. However, to those who read the book first, claimed that the book was a lot better than the film. It is normal for readers to think that the movie can never be as great as the book, but the movie itself portrayed a few differences from the book. The Hunger Games is classified as a close adaption of the book that is presented to the audience in the movie theaters. The director of The Hunger Games kept the book’s plot relatively similar to Suzanne Collin’s writing. One of the examples was the reaping day in District 12. In the book, Collins depicted reaping day to be a depressing, horrendous day for the people. Every year, District 12 has an event called the Hunger Games where they are to sacrifice a girl and a boy from their district to fight at the Capitol. The purpose and the rules of this game was created because of: …show more content…
The twenty-four tributes will be imprisoned in a vast outdoor arena that could hold anything from a burning desert to a frozen wasteland. Over a period of several weeks, the competitors must fight to the death. The last tribute standing wins… this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” (18). After each reaping, families come out and celebrate while the two families’ whose children were called for tribute lock themselves in misery and in pain because they don’t know how to handle waiting weeks to see whether or not their child survived the Hunger Games. In the movie, the director was able to capture in the scenes the essence and sadness that was in the District. The scene fell omniscient and dark because no one knew who was going to be chosen for
The day of reaping was a day all districts feared. It is a reminder to all twelve districts that the capitol hold the power over us, that they own us, that they control us. When I heard my name called I didn’t know what to think. The fact that my life was practically over and that out of every boy in the district I was chosen to compete in the games made me so mad. The odds were not in my favour. But I knew I had to be brave, for my family and for my district. Standing next to Katniss on stage at the day of the reaping was the worst feeling in the world. Knowing we had chance at survival. But thanks to our generous sponsers and our mentor Haymitch, Katniss and I remain standing here
Both share the same plot, and there are very little differences between the two. These are a few of the differences that I was able to notice between the book and the movie. There are several others throughout the story, but they are all just as minute and in the end they have no effect on the outcome of the story. Overall, I was very impressed with the movie and it was very true to the book. I have seen my share of movies that were adaptations from books that did not do the book justice, but this one is almost exactly like the book, so it was very
The book is in the voice of a young 16 year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 12 which is the poorest district in all of Panem, and all of the districts are controlled by the Capitol. The character who is in charge of the Capitol is President Snow and he and the people of Panem have created this entertainment for themselves called the hunger games. The games consists of randomly drawing one male and one female from each district to compete in the games until one alive remains. The winner gets to receive an income from the Capitol, to live in a better environment in their district with their families, and is adored by the Capitol. The day of the reaping, which is the day the names are randomly drawn was mandatory for
There are many things to compare and contrast in the hunger games book and the movie. When
In the movie The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen voluntarily takes her younger sister’s place in the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games is a televised fight, where only one person lives. Two teenagers from each of the twelve Districts of Panem are selected at random to compete. The purpose of the movie The Hunger Games is to create a sense of urgency for freedom in young adults. The Hunger Games encourages young adults to rebel against society’s rule.
What are the hunger games? What do they represent? Scrape away the layers of deception and at their core the games are a brutal sacrifice of children for entertainment; a stark reminder of absolute power over the people of the districts and a grisly form of entertainment for the wealthy. However, throughout the movie they are depicted as a jovial affair; with talk shows, announcers, glorious feasts, and parades. The disparity between the actual reality of the games and how the wealthy citizens view it is repugnant. While
Reality television has differed throughout the years. At one point it was meant to be a literal depiction of everyday life. Now, reality television has changed to be more dramatic and outrageous than an average person or family’s life. The Hunger Games, in a way, depicts the lives of those who live in the poorer districts where the necessities for life are not in such abundance as in the Capitol. Although children are not forced to kill each other in the districts, there is still the struggle for one’s livelihood. That reality is depicted in the games and it seems that The Capitol takes that theme and develops it into The Hunger Games that we know and love. The Hunger Games suggests that reality television is manipulated to the point where the viewers see what the creators (game makers) want them to see.
Annotated Bibliography Collins, Suzanne. The Hunger Games. New York, NY: Scholastic Incorporation, 2008. Print. This book has many lessons in it, but one of the most profound lessons is sacrifice.
It is shocking to see how the Capitol expects the Districts to treat the ‘Hunger Games’ like a festivity, so that they can enjoy the suffering of the tributes as pure entertainment, while being tortuous for the Districts that have to comply. This is illustrated quite well when Katniss says that ‘To make it humiliating as well as tortuous, the Capitol requires us to treat the Hunger Games as a festivity, a sporting event pitting every Districts against the others …’ For the residences in the Capitol ‘The Hunger Games’ itself is an annual event that provides them with a highly-anticipated source of entertainment to pass time and the cause to celebrate. Citizens gamble on the tributes and sponsor their favourites in the arena. The Districts understand that they are more likely to survive if they are seemingly compliant with the laws and the retractions that the Capitol puts on them. District 12 along with other districts comply with the Laws that the Capitol reinforces. Not only are the Districts required to comply but they have to look like and pretend that they’re agreeable to the punishment of having to sacrifice 2 of their young people from each District, every year and then act as if it is a major celebration rather than a tortuous punishment they have to endure year after year. People are addicted to watching the suffering of others, especially those in the Capitol. They love that all of the violence, the bloodshed and the struggle to stay alive is real. They like the
Suzanne Collins wrote a great and suspenseful book that was made into an exceptional movie. The Hunger Games is about a girl that volunteers to take her sister’s place in the Games. The book and movie, The Hunger Games, have many interesting differences and similarities. The similarities outnumber the differences.
For example in the book it says, “and while i was talking, the idea of actually losing peeta hit me again and I realized how much i don’t want him to die.” Also, the book shows how Katniss Everdeen connected with her friends and learned more about how she was by living in district 12. The film does not offer this, and the film shows that the characters are rough and tough. We learn less about who the characters really are. The novel is better because it is revealed to be regular kids which might make a couple mistakes throughout their
The reaping determines who goes into the hunger games. Two people from each district are chosen and sent to fight in an arena where the winner returns home to their district. The winner’s district gets gifts mainly food for the people in the district. The Games put is a punishment for the 12 districts and to remind them of the Dark Days. The games are also to remind them what will happen to them if they try to be like the 13th district that tried to rebel against the capital.
What do You think is always better? The original writing of a story with details and background information of characters or a live action movie with hype and intense scenes’ with loud scary music to make you feel nervous while watching. The Hunger games written by Susan Collins begins with a character Katniss everdeen volunteers for her sister when her sister is picked to go and fight in the hunger games with another Kid named Peeta Mellark were there are 24 tributes(Or representatives of districts only kids from 12-18 go to fight)and 1 must win to be the victor of a blood-bath game but after the games Katniss and peeta win but between president snow (President of the hunger games) and Katniss a bad relationship is formed. The Hunger games book is better than movie because the literary devices used such as characterization, detail and imagery, help the reader to better understand scenes and has a stronger emotion impact. The book is better than the movie because the characterization is used always used when a new character is introduced.
In the Hunger Games, one young male and one young female are randomly selected from each District, or town, every year to go into war with one another. Only one of the twenty-four make it back out of the game alive. The mayor announces the chosen ones every year at a ceremony known as the reaping, where he explains the history and purpose of the games. There was a war in the past between the Capitol and the Districts. Since the Capitol won, they hold the Hunger Games in honor of their victory. The story mostly focuses on a specific Hunger Games tribute, Katniss Everdeen, who chose to volunteer for her sister who was originally chosen as tribute. Katniss and District 12’s boy tribute, Peeta, are shipped off to train for the games for a few weeks in order to learn more about how the game is played and how the Capitol actually has a huge hand on who wins depending on their likeability. People who live in the Capitol actually send survival gifts in the games, which is the key to winning.
It’s the day of the reaping, which is very stressful because it determines which boy and girl, ages 12 to 18, will serve as the district’s tributes in the Hunger Games. Each of the 12 districts must draw two tributes, and those tributes are sent to an arena where they fight to the death until only one tribute remains alive. The victor’s district is given gifts, mainly food, and the victor returns home. The Capitol of Panem puts on the Games to remind and punish the 12 districts of the Dark Days, which was when the 13th district was destroyed for attempting to rise up against the cruel and merciless Capitol.
