Today I am going to talk about how the Johnny Tremain book and movie are different in many ways. There were many important parts of the book that weren’t in the movie, that it made the movie look like it was never based off of the book. It upsets me how different the movie is from the book. Some of the differences between the movie and the book are Johnny Tremain’s hand, Pumpkin, and Rab’s death.
One of the differences that were most important was Johnny’s hand. Johnny’s crippled hand changed his life and made him look for another job. Johnny’s hand still gets crippled and then fixed in both the book and the movie, but in different ways. The book tells that Johnny’s crippled hand was caused by Dove, one of the apprentices with Johnny in the book . The book says that Dove gives Johnny a cracked crucible for Johnny to look at. Johnny reaches for the cracked crucible before it falls as it pours the liquid metal on his hand and makes it crippled. The movie shows Mrs. Lapham bumping into Johnny before he falls and his hand falls into the liquid metal. The movie didn’t include Dove, who gave Johnny the cracked crucible which made Johnny’s hand

Rab was Johnny’s best friend and a role model for him. In the book, when Rab takes part in battle, Rab gets shot and dies in a hospital. Rab’s death was extremely significant in Johnny’s life, and it changed him. You would think such an important event wouldn’t be left out of the movie, right? Well, the movie ends with Johnny and Rab staying at a fort after fighting in battle together, without Rab dying. This difference angered me the most because Rab was Johnny Tremain’s best friend who changed Johnny and gave him confidence great and support. One of the most major events that heavily impacted Johnny in the book wasn’t even in the movie. Without Rab with Johnny, Johnny would have to move on without one of the people who changed his
In all these ways, the book and the movie had a lot of differences. Similarities The book and the movie have a lot of similarities like Mr. Hoo said Sam Westing stole his idea. In them both Grace worked at Mr. Hoo’s restaurant.
Let’s start off with the facts from the beginning all the way to the end, well let’s just say that in the movie there are many differences including all the special effects, makeup, characters, sound effects, and voice acting. Nevertheless, the book would never have those things, you could think of it as you read the book for your entertainment, but it’s not as real as the movie would appear. Even though those aren’t scenes from the movie or novel, it’s still a HUGE difference, but anyways, for the difference between them
One is that True Son took a swing at Del Hardy in the movie. While on the other hand, True Son just sat there and didn’t do anything. Another difference between the book and the movie was that True Son dropped and ate a the Mandrake Root instead of the May Apple like he did in the book. Next difference was that True Son had no other siblings in the movie. In the book he had a younger brother named Gordie. To go along with character difference, there was a servant to Aunt Kate and Uncle Wilse in the movie named Shenandoah. Another difference was that True Son’s mother put on a dance for True Son so, that he could meet a girl and fancy her. At the party, Myra Butler put a ring in the cake and had True Son give it to the person he liked the
Secondly Johnny should have found a gun for Rab because Rab was going into war. Rab would join the fight with or with out a new gun from Johnny and his chances of survival would be better with a new gun. Rab was willing to fight, he was willing to kill, he was willing to die, so a man can stand up.
The Movie, “Johnny Tremain” is drastically different from the book by Esther Forbes. There is at least 30 differences. The movie missed many characters and changed the main character, Johnny Lyte Tremain. The differences did alter the character and almost made him seem like a different person. I will focus on the characters that were missing that shaped the book and how Johnny was changed into the same person, but it changed how we saw the character of Johnny Tremain.
Johnny Tremain is a significant movie based on classic novel by Esther Forbe about s a young boy growing up during the American Revolution. The main character in the fictional movie is a youth named Johnny Tremain who is an apprentice to a Silversmith. However after he burns his hand and has to find a new trade, he joins the Boston Observer to help the Sons of Liberty to fight for equal rights and independence from England. The fight for freedom started with the over taxing of the people by England.
Johnny Tremain is an undeniable magnificent book, from it’s vivid portrayal of the settings, to it’s ability to keep trivial things meant to add realism to the book short and to the point, while elaborating on more exciting and historic events. It’s characters are extremely interesting, while its vocabulary is descriptive, but understood without effort. It’s a book you would want to
The book and the movie have many differences, including the types of physical losses that the characters experience, and the reason the characters had to get involved in war. While these differences are present, they have multiple similarities. Although Johnny Got His Gun and Shenandoah reveal distinct types of inner struggles, they both demonstrate the
The “OUTSIDERS”, a book and movie, portrays a small gang going through hard times. The Book and Movie may have the same plot but have small yet noticeable differences. Both stories take place around Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. These should be compared to show why sometimes movies get things wrong and why the book tends to be better, in this case they both stick to the plot with only a few missing or added details, such as the book is slower paced but has more detail, the movie misses or adds small details, and the movie destroys your thought of what characters look like.
Differences (stick with at least four)- Ponyboy has a good relationship with sodapop and gets along better with darry but still has a very good relationship with his brother. In the beginning of the book, Pony gets jumped by some Socs, but he doesn’t get cut with a knife. In the movie, they cut him. In the movie when ponyboy is talking to cherry he says how the sun on the south side and she says”good how bout the north.” In the book it's written west and east. Also in the movie johnny never got his first beating from the soc in the book he does. In the book it gave more detail and information in the movie it starts like in mid way of the book.
There were characters that didn’t make the movie which were the nurse and doctor that was talking to ponyboy, soda, and darry in the book. They were the once that told them that johnny was dieing which was an important scene in the book. The mom of johnny was not in the movie the way I know this because in the book there was only one scene where the mother was in. That was after the nurse came to tell johnny that his mother wanted to see him he said no. After that Dally and ponyboy left and the mother screaming at them telling them that this is their fault because they are bad influences in johnny's life. That never happened in the movie.
Some character I feel were needed to be put in the movie that were also in the book because those few characters added well to the scene and really made the book interesting. Johnny´s mother didn't make it to the movie. As I said in the lasted question Johnny´s mother was in the scene where she cused at Ponyboy and Dally and that scene added well to the book. Johnny mother in a way seemed to care about Johnny but never really showed it in their house. That sadly made Johnny not want to see his mother when he was in the hospital. Another character that wasn´t really needed in the movie was Sodapop's horse named Micky Mouse which Soda loved with all his heart but sadly Micky Mouse was sold by the ranch who owned him and Micky Mouse had to leave.
In conclusion, despite the differences between the book and movie, both were very compelling. This thesis was firmly established by examining the differences of the book and movie. Furthermore, examining the similarities only strengthened the thesis. Although I did not like the movie very much, it was still a good way to help the class visualize the book. I would definitely recommend the book to a fellow
The book and movie are completely different. It 's like comparing apples and oranges. (I 'm assuming that you used the newest version with Guy Pierce). The biggest difference is probably the ommision of Haydee and Maximillien and Valentine (three of the main character) and the addition of Jacapo. Jacapo does is in the book, but he is never a large character.
Normally, when a movie is made about a story in a book the two stories are not exactly the same. The movie is adjusted by adding small details or leaving out some parts in order to make the story more
