Many people have watched the magical movies of Harry Potter, but, with the books being longer than the movies, how much magic was lost in translation? To answer this question, I want to go over what the bigger differences are between the films and movies. While the overall plot stayed the same, there were plenty of changes made for the movie adaptation which I believe made the books much better by comparison. One big change that is noticed instantly when watching the movies is the removal of Peeves. In the books, Peeves the poltergeist is a mischievous spirit in that roams the school and torments students and staff. Despite this, he is beloved by readers as he appears in pretty much every book, seeing as he is connected to the wizarding …show more content…
This resulted in a lot of movie watchers feeling as though they forgot to watch a prequel. Granted, although they may not have much of a backstory in the movies, and what backstory they do have is more implied than actually stated, all members do appear in the movies and maintain the same personalities that were shown in the book. In the movies they also hinted at how mischievous they all were, by introducing the watchers to the Marauders map. So when watching the movies, you may not know much about the Marauders and how they were and you may not hold the same fondness for them, making many scenes slightly less emotional, but you know of them and you get to understand their personality a bit despite the missing context. Everyone who both read the books and saw the movies received the same impression of the character Hermione Granger, she was very clever and made a great role model for the female fans, but unfortunately not everyone got to see just how much of a righteous activist she really was. In the books, Hermione started a group named S.P.E.W. which stood for, “Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare”. This started when Hermione witnessed the horrible way house elves were treated, specifically one house elf, who unfortunately wasn’t even introduced in the movies, named Winky. SPEW made an excellent side story of sorts, but because it was more of a side story than part of the actual plot, there’s no surprise it was left out of the movies completely.
All in all there were many things different about the book compared to the movie.
One difference is that Percy Jackson and Annabeth are 12 in the book but 16 in the movie, and in the book Annabeth has blonde curly hair but in the movie she has brown straight hair. Another contrast between the two is that Mr. D (Dionysus god of wine, agriculture, and fertility of nature) is in the book but barely in the movie and we know that Percy is Poseidon's son from the beginning of the movie when he holds his breath in the pool for a couple minutes but in the book he's not claimed by his father Poseidon until he gets to camp Half-Blood. Percy gets told by Mr. Brunner (Chiron) that he can't have any electronics because the monsters will be able to track him but in the movie Percy has a iPod that helps him cut Medusa's head
With Principal Williams momentarily becoming an antagonist it changed the plot of the story causing more problems and differences that I didn’t mention. David Isay becoming a main character also slightly altered the plot. The microscope that was placed on Lloyd’s life changed the characters and the plot. Book based movies don’t always tell the story the exact same way and that’s what makes them worth
A movie that came out in 2002 was Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This movie was based off the best-selling novel, which was written in 1997 by J.K. Rowling, called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. If you were to read this book and watch the movie you would find many differences, but the main difference between the two is that the book gives more information to the reader than the movie gives to the viewer. If someone was to watch the movie instead of reading the book, that person would not be able to have an accurate perception of the book because so many things in the book are changed in the movie or parts are left out of the movie completely. This is mainly because the book has more characters and chapters, which are
They went through the roof. There were so many differences in the movie. I was able to see it visually and mentally my head. It helped me understand what was going on in the movie. In Addition the movie was a lot better. It was so much better than the book. There were more details than ever in the movie than in the
The 3 major differences that were seen are the shattering of the conch, the pilot’s presence, and Ralph’s attitude towards Piggy. Due to these major differences the novel left a greater impact on its readers than the movie on its viewers. Seeing the movie and as well reading the book, personally the book was a better. The book has a very different approach of that showed these 3 major differences to their full extent. Out of the two though, I would choose the book as more pleasant and
Although the movies are a beautiful remake of the original book, there a quite a few distinct differences between the two. These differences can be very simple: like the fact that Gollum only has six teeth in the book and nine in the movie, or very complex: like the fact that whole new characters were added to the movie that were not originally in the book. The elves Legolas, Tauriel, and Galadriel played very prominent roles in the book in helping the dwarves and hobbit on their journey, yet they ceased to exist in the original text. Another substantial difference between the book and movies is that in the book, the dwarves and hobbit weren’t aware of Smaug leaving (or being killed for that matter) until they were alerted of this news by the crows. However, in the movie, a pretty large battle took place between the dwarves and Smaug. As far as smaller differences go, in the book the keyhole to get into Smaug’s chamber was lit by the sunset, whereas in the movie the keyhole was lit by the light of the moon; the movie showed Bard’s children and the book didn’t; and in the book it talks of Gandalf throwing pinecones lit with fires of many color, but in the book they were all one color; and the movie featured an attack
Despite having many differences the film remains faithful in capturing the novel and putting on film. While one may not get everything from the movie as from the book, the majority of it is there. So for die hard fans of the book there is no need for disappointment. All the main parts of the book are there, the characters, the plot, the setting
For instance, in the book Joppy knew Albright; Albright knew Todd Carter; Todd Carter knew Richard McGee as well as Matthew Terrell whereas in the movie every character denied knowing each other except Albright and Joppy. Another noticeable difference is that in the book Frank Green, Daphne’s brother ends up murdered and in the movie he lives and they both end up moving. The third noticeable difference is a character name change from the book to the movie; Matthew Teran in the book is Matthew Terrell in the movie and he ends up being murdered in the book whereas at the end of the movie he’s running for mayor. A fourth noticeable difference is the pier scene. In the book Albright and Easy meet at the Santa Monica pier and in the movie it is the Malibu pier. And the last most noticeable difference between the book and the movie is that Mouse knows Daphne Monet or shall we call her by her real name Ruby Hanks; however, in the movie the audience never finds that out. In the movie the only true thing you get to know about Daphne is that she is both black and white. Therefore, due to the many differences between the book and the movie it is confusing to the audience since it is almost like dealing with two different stories because of the plot inconsistencies.
The book and movie are completely different. It 's like comparing apples and oranges. (I 'm assuming that you used the newest version with Guy Pierce). The biggest difference is probably the ommision of Haydee and Maximillien and Valentine (three of the main character) and the addition of Jacapo. Jacapo does is in the book, but he is never a large character.
The last big difference i saw was the scene with the Lotus Eaters. In the book, Odysseus and his men went to an island with Lotus Eaters while in the movie, the lotus blossoms were given by Circe. This made him and his men stay longer with Circe for five years. They had thought it had only been a couple days but Circe made it seem like that, so they wouldn't leave. That is also different from the book because in the book, Odysseus and his men only stayed with Circe for a year, not five years.
Unlike the book, the movie is very visual with lots of sounds and exciting twists. Since I have read the novella I didn’t really care that much for the movie because I knew what was going to happen at the end. The one thing I was hoping for was that there was a new scene or new storyline. There wasn’t really a new
The four children enter Narnia and free it from the spell that the white witch has cast upon it and in the process they become kings and queens of Narnia. There are several differences in the movie that are not present in the book, but they are very minor and do not change the story. For instance, when the white
A minor difference between the movie and the book was concerning the scene about Sir Henry going to the moor. In the book he was pretty upset that people were trying to keep him from going there, but in the movie he showed the least bit of emotion. This was not a major impact on the story but it definitely added character to Sir Henry. In the movie Sir Henry was somewhat timid and in the book that scene showed he was not afraid to stand up for himself.
Harry Potter has lots of differences between the movies and books. Even if they may appear similar on the surface, they are very dissimilar once you look beyond the outer similarities. The best movie/book to contrast is the first movie of the deathly hallows and the book, mainly because it has the greatest similarities between the book and the movies. The possible reason why the movie has the least amount of major differences is because, It was split into two parts which allowed it to remain more loyal to the original text. There are ten differences between them but there are some noticeable differences which do not contract very much from the overall quality of the movie.
